Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
Now I'm squarely in the Obama camp, but boy this comes off as pandering if I ever saw it.
What do you guys think? Obama To Sponsor Car At Nascar Race - Politics on The Huffington Post |
Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
Yeah i don't think most of those people are voting for Obama anyways. This isn't going to help.
|
Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
This is just nuts. What happened to this guy?
|
Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race

no real downside. don't think the ROI is going to be great for him, but whatever... he has the money.

Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
Am I missing something? From Huffington Post:
"Late Friday, the Obama campaign said there would be no sponsorship." I guess you can switch your position on guns, flag lapel pins, the Iraq War, etc , but to associate yourself with Nascar people would be a bridge too far. |

Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
smooty, how did you get beat to this story? isn't nascar your forte?
|
Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
LOL...BAM is big time whoring itself to anyone willing to fork some cash. They asked both candidates if they're willing to sponsor them and their driver is a card caring republican. No thanks.

I have, to the surprise of many, a life outside this board. Also, NASCAR ain't my forte no more anyway. |
Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
Wow...
Would the car have had a slogan like "Your guns are mine!" on it? Perhaps "Change...tires every 50 laps." He would have definitely put himself amongst a group of people who don't like him... Too bad this won't happen...maybe Tony Stewart would have put the Obama car in the wall on the first lap. :) |

 Guess this is going to turn into a political battle where no one will listen, and everyone will keep their same frame of mind. There is no point talking about politics here. When the hell is the season coming back? It feels like it's been over a year since I last saw the SKins. |

I'm not discussing politics...my sig is just there for people to view or not. I am really rather disappointed that Obama didn't sponsor a car. I was curious about the paint scheme. Was he going to big ole picure of his mug on the hood??? I think that would have been fun. |

Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
First, this thread is about Obama.
I wasn't going to comment at all on your post, because you do have difficulty listening to people, but I felt I needed to give you at least 1 shot. This thread is about Obama sponsoring a NASCAR car. This is not a political debate.
In case you hadn't noticed, he's running for President.
Seriously?
This IS a political thread.
Didn't realize that NASCAR has become political. They've really come a long way from being "a redneck sport". I guess just using the word Obama means we should talk about politics???? Or maybe we should discuss terrorism since he has muslim ties, and since some Muslims are terrorists, that's a logical leap right? (please note I am not saying Obama is a terrorist...I have to make that disclaimer for some reason)
Second, so the conservatives can take jabs at Obama, but I can't at McCain?
Who are you trying to kid? You're not taking a jab, you're retaliating. Taking jabs is always fun...try not taking it so personally. You're searching for a political fight with your comment. Haven't we ALL learned that politics can not be rationally discussed here without it getting ugly? Just a side note, this post is more "political" than I even want to get on this site. |

Not on this site I am not, no. Unless it was one on one...maybe via PM or something. I learned my lesson with the Kerry / Bush election, and the slew of Bush hating threads thereafter. I'm all for discussing with people that are willing to listen. ps- isn't that the point of a sig? To let it speak for you without discussion? |
Re: Obama To Sponsor Car at Nascar Race
It was a pointless comment from 70Chip in the first place. But that's what he does. 70Chip doesn't miss a chance to crack on the left (he's not the only one to do that, for either side). But he certainly does it more than most.
It can be annoying sure, but sometimes the best response is no response. |

This thread is about Obama sponsoring a NASCAR car. This is not a political debate.
You oftentimes conflate "a difficulting listening" with failing to say "jsarno is absolutely correct." Also, this thread did get political. 70Chip took a swing at Obama (which is fair), and I took a swipe at McCain, yet you only take issue with my comments.
Who are you trying to kid? You're not taking a jab, you're retaliating. Taking jabs is always fun...try not taking it so personally. Haven't we ALL learned that politics can not be rationally discussed here without it getting ugly?
I most certainly took a jab at McCain. I didn't go after 70Chip. So, while I responded to 70Chip's post, I didn't intend to go after him. Also, I'm not taking it personally. I like reading 70Chip's posts because, even if we disagree, they're usually thoughtful and interesting. I realize you tend to try to discredit people by saying "apparently this issue has gotten you heated up," but I'm not in the slightest bit upset with 70Chip. I take issue with dumb people and a-holes, but 70Chip is neither. Finally, I'm going to take a breather from political threads. I can't wait for the season to start so we can discuss something else. |
but sometimes the best response is no response.
You're right...I personally need to get better at that. Since this is a NASCAR thread...what the hell is up with your boy Busch this year? 7 freakin wins??? He's having the kind of season people dream of. I wonder if he's going to be able to keep this going into the chase? He is reminding me of Gordon's dominance last year, and we all know that Gordan couldn't take it to the end. |

ps- isn't that the point of a sig? To let it speak for you without discussion?
It just seems a little hypocritical to have a sig like that on one hand and call people out for not listening or being open minded on the other. |

I can't imagine you're really hurt. But no, I certainly don't mean to say you contribute nothing. Far from it. You contribute plenty of worthwhile information. At the same time though, you do tend to throw in those comments that seem to have no place in the discussion. The shame of course is that you're one of the few who can speak intelligently on history and politics, and it's unfortunate when you choose not to |

All work and no play = Al Gore. I guess my humor simply isn't up to snuff. The thing I think you find objectionable is my satirical riff on the Obama rumors. I was two months ahead of Remnick at the New Yorker. I saw this coming. David Remnick is a brilliant writer/editor and a Liberal I respect, but I knew they themselves would end up pushing the rumors, so they could maintain the storyline about the right pushing the rumors. I'm now claiming all the rumors I spread were satire. I'm also changing my avatar since camp is starting today. I think CP. but I'm not sure. I like Zorn. Everyone I know has always liked Zorn since football card days. But I will always say that Williams got the shaft. |
