Looks like trading for Erasmus James is more than just taking a flyer, we may need him to produce. And soon.

That didn't take long.

I don't think we can expect production from James. I don't think he'll be attending training camp because he isn't healthy. We need to bring him along slowly.

sadly this year has picked up where last year left off with injuries.

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

Then hopefully this isn't a serious injury because just looking at the DE's on the roster we don't have much in the way of girth outside of Daniels and Demetric Evans. Not a good development on the first day.

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

WTF is wrong with our luck with injuries? Why do we always seem to get hit at the exact spot where we have the least depth? The bad news is that he was down on the field for several minutes and had to be taken off the field on a cart. The good news is that it's the first day of camp, Daniels is a vet that doesn't really need camp to be effective, and he's got a month to recover before the season starts.

I agree, I truly do hope they won't rush him into the game..

i definitely left before that happened. Does not look like a good omen to start the first practice to.

That is a bad omen. The one area they skated on may be dealt a severe blow less than an hour into the season. I hope GB has got something up the sleeve or it '06 all over again.

Hopefully its just like a sprain, I guess we'll find out this afternoon...that would be a seroius blow to the dline.

DO NOT need a year of Daniels........nicked up.

It highlights our need for more depth there. My guess is we'll be bringing in camp cuts and hoping for the best. We need Daniels healthy, but that right there shows our weakness. It's not like Daniels has been healthy lately, and he's not a young guy.

i'm really not to concerned about it. i feel bad for daniels but he was average at best. it's time for someone else to step in there and get the job done.

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

Initially it doesn't sound too bad-hyperextension/sprain per JLC.. Remember last year we lost Samuels for the entire preseason in the first week of practice and he went to the Pro Bowl.. Let's keep the faith and a positive thought!

I agree that he wasn't an All-Pro, but he was an unquestioned starter and leader. Someone else will undoubtedly get a chance, but losing our strongest and beefiest end so early is not good.

I don't think this is an omen or '06 all over again. Its simply bad luck, football is a contact sport and people get hurt. Hopefully its just a sprain, but it happening so early is good because it gives him time to heal and the Skins time to plan. No woe is me talk after the first session of training camp please.

The only problem with the first part of your comment was the last part.

Daniels hasnt impressed me much... if any, however when we are running low on DE (and we knew this going into the draft) its hard to take even a small injury for any amount of time.

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

Phillip Daniels' effectiveness against the rush is so underapperciated. If you're playing with a DE who can't contain the run, your pretty much f***ed. Teams will run at that side all day long. Our run defense was as good as anyones last year and I obviously don't want to see that change. We can't afford a downgrade at that position. Get well soon Phillip!

[x] Redskins run bad at injuries
[x] should've drafted another DL
[ ] Eramus James is answer
[x] this sucks

I think that covers all the bases lol

IF this is just a mild hyperextension, this may not be a bad thing. Daniels will go into the season healthy, the missed reps won't hurt him (he knows GB's D well), and the young guys get much needed reps to improve. Yes, I'm a "glass half full" guy.

Slingin Sammy 33 07-20-2008 02:13 PM

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

Before we go too far down the road of "we should've drafted a DE" and "see the FO screwed up again".....what if we had drafted a DE first and Moss got hurt, or (not trying to jinx us) but what if Smoot or Springs goes down, what if Landry goes down, what if Rabach goes down. The salary cap doesn't allow the luxury of keeping talented depth at all the positions you would like.

In the grand scheme of things Daniels going down, even if it is for an extended period, is nowhere near as bad as the scenarios I mentioned above.

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

No point in the "woulda coulda shoulda" draft stuff. We didn't. We're going to have to make due with the line we've got, and any castoffs that might help. That will most likely be a weak point this year, we know that. They went heavy on the offense this year, and my guess is they'll be looking d-line in the draft and FA next time. Til then, we'll have to hope for the best, and SCORE LOTS OF POINTS!

Sounds like a torn ACL. Done for the year.

On a side note. I love the last sentence of this article regarding our cap space, lol. So much for us being in cap hell...

I guess this blows the whole "mild hyperextension" report all to hell. Oh well, adapt & overcome, just don't give up a 1st for Jason Taylor.

What's a fair price for Taylor? 3rd round pick that turns to a 2nd if certain requirements are met?

bring in Jason Taylor. we don't have any options. too bad tuna will make us bleed for him.

Well that sucks.

I can definitely see Jason Taylor in a Skins uniform now. Sort of a Catch-22 though. If we trade away our #1 for him, then we can't use that pick to select one in the draft.

BleedBurgundy 07-20-2008 02:46 PM

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

a #1 would be too much, unless Taylor agrees to play at least 3 more years, imo.

Sorry guys, I just heard the news on NFL Radio. Shocked is what I am. But NFL Radio was talking to David Elfin from the Washington Times, he is at camp with the team and he saw the whole thing.

Initial report from Zorn was a sprained knee, but word is out that is is probably an ACL injury and Daniels is done for the year.

Elfin went on to report that there are definite rumblings at camp that the Redskins will pursue a deal to land Jason Taylor. Nothing official of course, on the injury or the teams next step.

Sorry to hear this happen to you guys. Report went on to say that the team was not even in pads, but just shells and it happened on the very first play in training camp.

Eerily similar to the injury to LeCharles Bentley when he went down on the first play at camp when he went to the Browns.

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

I cannot believe this. It's not just about the sting of bizarre injuries and a tragedy carried over from last season. Daniels went out of his way to get in the best shape of his life this off-season. His power-lifting vids are monster impressive, but now I have to wonder whether damage was done at some point that made an injury inevitable. We'll just never know. All I know is that I'm f'n depressed.

Like others have said a 2nd or 3rd round pick for Taylor is reasonable. If the Tuna asks for more we should pass, and in that case who can name some good DE's still out there? Do we have any other options?

Big C 07-20-2008 02:59 PM

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

really would be a shame to see all our offseason discipline thrown out the window by giving up too much for jason taylor in a panic move. dolphins wanted a 1st round pick, really would piss me off if we gave that up to get him.

SFREDSKIN 07-20-2008 03:04 PM

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

The Redskins have to calm down and not panic into trading the farm for Jason Taylor for only one year. I say give Alex Buzzbee a chance and bring back Dorian Smith for added competition. There will be cuts late in camps from other teams, patience.

Confirmation from the Post. Oy.

I agree we should not burn down the house to get Taylor. If Daniels was the key to our entire year, getting Taylor aint gonna save us. Only if the price is right.

re: Phillip Daniels is done for the season, Buzbee also hurt (updated)

I just checked roster stats and it looks like Evans is only 28. He's performed well when Daniels has suffered lesser injuries and I wonder how much of a downgrade he would be as the starter.
