New A-11 offense

What do you guys think of the new A-11 offense, maybe we'll see it in the NFL someday soon? haha maybe not...

Yeah, the Spurrier offense worked out real well in the NFL....you run the a-11 offense in the NFL and both of your QBs will get killed.

When I was in high school way back in the late 1990's Park View Sterling ran the Single Wing. They were very successful, they beat us 56-6 and we were a playoff team that year. It was an offense that did not resemble anything else you saw from any other team (albeit a throwback to the 1920's) and it was basically impossible to get a good simulation in practice when you only had a few days to prepare and a bunch of JV second teamers trying to give you a look. Bottom line, with the kind of athletes that play in the NFL and the time they have to prepare gimmicky offenses like this one wouldn't work. Hell, this team went 7-4 running it in high school (Park View never won a state title when I was in high school either).

For those college defenses that can't even figure out the spread (Michigan), this offense would be a nightmare to face.

Of course, you could beat it the same way you'd beat the spread, and there would be no semblance of a downfield passing game here, but it could catch on in college.

I agree I don't think it would work either. They went 7-4 but maybe it hasn't been perfected yet? They did say that there's a lot of different things they can do wit that offense...

Can't run it in college. In the NCAA this offense is not legal because there is added language in the formation rule that says 'it must be obvious that a kick may be attempted.'

Not bad as a change of pace, but I wouldn't run it as a base offense. Once teams see it a couple of times you can prepare for it and stop it. Problem is at the HS level many coaches don't watch much film or scheme well.

Yeah, and I'm sure it was hell for the quarterback(s) to get used to. I believe you could win in high school with this offense, but it'd be a stretch in college and wouldn't work in the pros

Crazy. Yeah, it would only work against kids.

The pass-rushing lanes are HUGE and who wants to trust an NFL lineman to take a pitch in the backfield?

I was confused how linemen could be eligible receivers, but it said that they can take backwards passes or pitches. If the linemen are behind the QB, he better take off FORWARD, not pitch the ball back to a lineman who just got burned trying to block someone. Only in a busted-down play could I ever see a lineman touching the ball. If he does, I'd imagine it would be a 10-yard loss.

Surely, you must be joking. In my day we watched film on every opponent. With the better technology today there is no excuse for not watching.

Depends on the school. I went to a rather small high school and we didn't watch any film. We had so called scouting reports on teams, and since most of the coaches knew each other you had a basic idea of what sort of things they did.

I agree, there is no excuse for not watching. But, I've recently coached at that level and many of the coaches don't work as hard as they should. There's a big difference between showing the kids film for a hour or so and actually taking the time to break it down and come up with schemes in a coaches meeting.

The A-11 offense will take my intramural flag football team all the way.

Would work in HS, not so much in college, no way in hell in the NFL.

You have to remember a few things here. One the team went 7-4 in High school football. Piedmont did not run the formation the whole game they just used it periodically during games. It would be a hard defense to stop even if you did study and prepare for it because you still have no idea which recievers will be going out, that creates problems. However they did not win any championship nor division, the team that did win the division beat Piedmont 38-15. Not discrediting the A11 offense or Piedmont or the creators (like I said I like the formation and would use it) just saying I think the better teams were prepared.

Now I do believe the offense could work at the high school level but not the pro level because of the speed at the NFL level. It would work great if you had a mobil athletic QB (say like Vick) to run it in high school or college. It is definatly a neat formation that has tremendous possibilities.
