Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
The Brett Favre saga could end with the NFL icon in pewter.
The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours. The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay. Just end it already, PLEASE.
And how funny is it that he's on the cover of Madden in his Packers gear? LOL, maybe they'll issue a new cover. |
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
From PFT:
JETS MAKE BEST OFFER, ARE FAVRE’S LAST CHOICE Posted by Michael David Smith on August 6, 2008, 8:39 a.m. It now appears that the New York Jets are the team willing to part with the best package to acquire Brett Favre in a trade, and that New York is the place the Packers would like to ship Favre, because it gets him out of the NFC. But it also appears that of all the teams that have an interest in Favre’s services, the Jets are the team Favre least wants to play for. Appearing on ESPN Radio this morning, Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer said the Tampa Tribune’s report that Favre is on the verge of being a Buc is not true, and that there’s a lot of negotiation still to be done before any deal could be completed. I think a nice basket of kittens would be great as a replacement. |

I'm so sick of this, will it please hurry up and end!!!

re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
Would anything stop someone like Tampa or NYJ from trading for him then sending him to the Vikings? I kinda want to see him beat the hell out of GB at least twice.
I, like everyone else, find the coverage given to the whole Favre situation ridiculous. Yesterday ESPN cut off about 10 minutes of around the horn to show pictures of Favre in an SUV basically saying he didn't get on the practice field today and negotiations were kinda rough. |

That said though, the video of Favre in the SUV was "interesting" for lack of a better word. |
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
NFL and ESPN radio have turned into Brett Favre radio this last month or so. I'm so tired of it I've seriously dialed down the amount of time I listen to sports radio in general. I just can't take it anymore.

I TIVO NFL Live on ESPN each day and have just fast forwarded thru most of them because it's all Favre all the time.. Typical ESPN overkill (sorry SS, but it's just too much!).. At least Peter King acknowledged there are 31 other teams and 2499 other NFL players to talk about.. Good point Matty about the Madden cover, the curse continues!! |
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
Jeff Garcia...Brian Griese...Chris Simms...Luke McCown and now Brett Farve....
This just in...Packers cut all of their receivers to make roster room for QBs.... |
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
I wonder if he'll have to commmit to more than a year if he goes to either team.
|
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
I heard someone today saying that this might not be such a done deal and that the NYJ are offering a bigger deal for Brett.
|
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
What is Tampa or NYJ susposed to be willing to give up to get Brett?
Does anyone know for sure if you can put a stipulation in a trade agreement that says the player must play for the aquiring team, or that the player can not be traded to certian other teams? |
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
Sigh...there's a "relationship expert" on ESPN's First Take now to discuss Favre and the Packers (and the fans).
So....how 'bout them Cubs? |
re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
I'm actually not tired of it per se, as I haven't been catching too much espn lately, just reading stuff online. I think if you tune into tv news enough, any big story will get old quick.
since this is a Skins site, what are yall's thoughts on how this impacts the Skins & nfc? On one hand I think the packers can't repeat their 07 year w/Farve or not. On the other, if they kept him they might find a way to beat dallas in the playoffs. It would cap his career to finally win at texas stadium. If he goes to tampa I don't see that making too big a difference for them. I still think they're a 10-6 team or so at best. I don't know that you can really say Farve would be an upgrade over Garcia when you consider that Farve has to come in and learn the system. Mabye by mid october he'd be in synch w/the O, but I could just as easily see him throwing a bunch of picks & tampa going 7-9 or something close. |

The Pack have the potential to become a mess if Rodgers struggles and the Favre backers in the locker room start raising questions.. I agree it's going to take a while for him to acclimate to TB.. Tampa was a good team in a bad division last year and didn't do much IMO to improve this year.. All of their best players (Brooks, Barber, Garcia, Galloway) are way on the wrong side of 30.. If they win 9 games it's a success IMO. |
Re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
This is not good for Brett. He's not good at learning new systems (don't have time to find the link, but Schneed proved it a while back), and he is already behind the 8 ball since he'll have a whopping 3 weeks to get ready for the season opener. I don't see how he will be effective in Tampa. He should have made up his mind that he has two options, 1- play for Green Bay, 2- stay retired. If he's traded to Tampa, he WILL tarnish his legacy.

In the short term perhaps, but in the long run I don't think it will have a damaging impact on his legacy. |
Re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
This tarnished legacy crap is so overblown.
Does anyone care now that Jordan played for the Wizards? |

Re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
I can definitely see your points, and you could be right. However, none of those players had the fued with their team like Favre with the Packers.
I think Brett will have a horrible season in Tampa (if he's traded). Lucky to get 3300 yards, and will have similar td to int ratio. The only way to save it is to have a great season in Tampa (close to 4000 yards, and a much better td to int ratio) That way people will blame Green Bay about this cause Favre OBVIOUSLY still had it. I just don't see him having a great season. ps- Smith certainly tarnished his legacy in my eyes. I now see him as one of the most overrated RBs in history. He said, before signing with Arizona, and shortly after signing with Arizona, that he felt rejuvenated, and that he felt better than he had in years. Also implied we should see a huge season from him. He went out and had 256 yards in 10 games, and a meezly 2.8 YPC. Granted injuries were a factor. The following year he played in 15 games and still couldn't muster 1000 yards, and had a horrible 3.5 YPC. Emmitt Smith should thank his lucky stars he played for one of the best O lines in history. Sure he was a good RB, but no way the best. |

My image of Brett has already changed.

Re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
If one more person talks about tarnishing a legacy I'm simply going to throw up my lunch. Everone is to blame here. At this point of his career it doesn't seem like Farve wants to do any of the off season stuff and GB mgt are scared of him. This whole thing sucks. I just hope it ends today so the sports world can move on. But TB is just an average football team.....with or w/out Farve.

I guess tarnishing a legacy is a point of view. Some have short or maybe even weak memories, so they only remember the good. However, there are plenty of people that didn't forget how Elway screwed the Colts, or how JD Drew screwed Philadelphia etc. There are plenty of instances out there that changed the opinion in peoples minds of these athletes. For others it doesn't matter.
To me, this is not a case of player who still feels he can play and the team doesn't so he's cut loose. This is an ugly divorce with both sides throwing punches, but Favre is the one that has gone back on his word several times. It's just ugly, and it has indeed changed my opinion of him. No, that does not take away the fact he's a HOFer, but it does tarnish his legacy in my mind, and I am sure several other minds. |

How about Gibbs' second stint? Did that tarnish his legacy? His bust is still in Canton from what I saw.

Re: Tampa Tribune Reports Favre Could Be Traded To Bucs Soon
Better them though.
Look at it in this light, with the Favre saga in Green Bay, Stephen Jackson holding out, Westbrook and Burress demanding new contracts. Shockey traded to the Saints, Steve Smith beating people up, Javon Walker mugged in Vegas, brandon Marshall and a few others getting suspended......and the list goes on across the NFL. Are you not glad that all the Redskin players are in camp, under contract, happy and playing football? |

Surely, there wasn't a Jets/Iggles contingency in canton last week. Also, G Clark w/the cards & fins, R. Sanders w/atl, and Mann in SF. Years from now, will anybody talk about Lavar w/the g-men? Probably not, cause he wasn't as big a star as Farve, but the situations are similar. Remember Dorsett w/the Broncos? Earl Campbell & Ken Stabler w/the saints? |
