Colt getting some time at #2?

I'm trying to stir things up a little for some Colt talk of course. It looks like Zorn likes him some Colt and is making some excuses to get some more live gametime looks at him. He might be w/ the 2nd team w/ some starters rather than the 3rd team, otherwise known as the ones who will be cut. Who knows...#2 QB? Crazier things have happened. Go ahead have at it.

Zorn's QB Plan; Strictly Unrestricted

After practice Jim Zorn talked a bit about his quarterback plan for Saturday and said that he might rotate Todd Collins and Colt Brennan after Jason Campbell gets his plays in. He said it would depend on the situation, but he'd like to get Brennan some two-minute work, since, he said, after a couple of games he won't have the opportunity to see Brennan play again for a year. So don't be surprised if Brennan comes in before Collins.
As for the Redskins' big preseason game Aug. 16 against the suddenly-Favred New York Jets, Zorn said he fully expects to see Brett Favre play a bit that night in East Rutherford.

I'm eager to see what Colt can do against 2nd stringers. I'm impressed with what I've seen thus far, but I have yet to conclude that he's even worthy of a roster spot (gasp....choke....gasp).

Ugh. Come on now, stop trying to make something out of nothing.

Zorn specifically said why he's doing it.

It is a slow day and i am little bored. It's not completely far fetched though, even though who knows what will happen from here on out. Who knows if Collins improves in this system or if Colt bombs from here on out?

At least this is better than hearing about BF....

Re: Colt getting some time at #2?

Zorn pretty much explains the reasoning for bringing him in before Collins. The last few preseason games we're pretty much only going to see JC and Collins... since they are the clear #1 and #2.

Just stop with the Colt madness.

Yeah, we do not want to discuss your BF, JGisLordOfTheRings.

Collins will be #2 this year (pun intended? :) ) but I hope the long-term plan is to make Colt Jason's backup in the future.

I can't see Todd staying more than one more year after this year.

Unless he retires why would TC not be back?

I wanna see as much of Colt as possible in the pre season for the same reason Zorn does...He ain't playin' again til next season!

A few more hits and he may need hip replacements.

I think Campbell's health will determine how long Collins plays (lasts).

Todd needs to step up and learn the system better too, because he was the least impressive of the QBs against the Colts.

Re: Colt getting some time at #2?

Collins will be 37 this year. Gotta think he has this year and one more maybe left in him. After that Colt should be ready to be #2. But who knows, maybe he'll be so awesome someone will offer a second or third rounder for him next year (jk).

MTK 08-07-2008 07:47 PM

Re: Colt getting some time at #2?

TC signed what was essentially a 3 year deal and it was a nice payday for him. Yeah he's older but he's pretty fresh considering how little he's played. I'd agree that 2 years is probably realistic, but I'd say there's a decent shot he'll hang on for 3 years. Guess it also depends on how he picks up the offense and how that guy behind him develops.

cho cho...come and ride the train baby...I'm all over Colt being number 2..watch out Campbell one 3-6 week injury and colt rocking can smell like the recipe of quarterback controversy

Re: Colt getting some time at #2?

Not that I have anything against Brennan, but I think Zorn wants to see him play against some better players and see how he pans out. He's going to need development, but he has talent and would be a good back up and potential starter in the future (or trade bait).

So you're hoping that our STARTING quarterback gets injured? I hope you're joking.

I've been following Brennan since Mater Dei high school when he backed up Matthew Leinart. I'm not wishing no harm on anyone but I see big things for Colt. As for Campbell I'm still not sold on him all that much. He can play but i don't see him leading us to the promised land.

He needs to develop, there's a reason why he was picked up during the later rounds and not on the first or second round. It looks like he will have a bright future, and that is good for our team. However, this team has invested a lot on JC to just give up on him.

He doesn't need to take us to the promised land, just to Tampa or Dallas or.........

A first round draft pick for starters.

Redskins gave up three picks, including a first-rounder to move up in the draft to get Campbell. Given how much we have valued draft picks this past year, I would say that's a lot of investment to give up on him and turn our offense over to a rookie Qb. We might as well be in rebuilding mode if we do that.

Not to mention roughly a possible 8 Mil. I believe that he has already gotten at leat 4 Mil. from a roster bonus.

Okay i knew we moved up to get him i justed didn't know how much..But the question i ask you is do you think Jason Campbell can do it...Honestly i know we're fans and all but lerts face reality. Campbell doesn't even make my top eight in the league as far as qb's are concerned.

Yes, Jason Campbell CAN and WILL do it. I've yet to see anything from Campbell that would suggest he's not top 10.

Watch him go this season, this scheme will suit him and his new collection of WR's just fine.

:woot:

Exactly.

It's hilarious to see people question JC, but on the other hand are so convinced that an unproven rookie is somehow the answer. Simply retarded.

Re: Colt getting some time at #2?

This thread was not intented to question JC and his future as a starter. He's improved greatly every season and i see this season as an improvement as well. CB is not going to dethrone JC anytime soon and most likely is not going to dethrone TC for the backup.

It would be great if CB turns into a nice player as you can never have enought talent on a team. Then it gives you options. Annointing CB as a starter in this league is very much premature.

Can't blame Zorn. Probably wants to see him go up against at least second stringers instead of just fodder. I don't think this means anything toward actual depth chart..

Patrick Ramsey. :)

It's like the Patrick Ramsey discussions all over again. :D

Hopefully Colt can do something Ramsey never could...get better with experience.

Not to mention we invested 3 picks in the second round this year so Campbell can have more weapons in this offense. We've invested a lot in Campbell, I mean the reason Zorn was first hired was to help Campbell out, so it wouldn't make sense to just give up on him after all that.

I never said Colt was a top eight Qb either..But i did say he'll be one of the future. And not to discount JC's skills i just know more and trust Colt because I've followed him since High School. Both may be a force to reckon with but its amazing how Espn's First Take said the same exact comment today.
