James Activated; Huntley Released

Defensive end Erasmus James has passed his physical and will be activated from the physically unable to perform list.
That means someone had to go and that someone is Kevin Huntley, a veteran defensive end who had failed to move up the depth chart. He's a DC area guy who had spent some time with Atlanta, but after the Jason Taylor trade and with James getting healthy, Huntley was expendable.
Back at practice (players in shells and shorts) this morning are LaRon Landry, Rock Cartwright, James, Devin Thomas and Chris Horton. Vernon Fox is back after missing Saturday's game for personal reasons.
Not practicing are H.B. Blades, Shawn Springs, Malcolm Kelly, Stephon Heyer, and Anthony Mix.
Both Todd Yoder or Lorenzo Alexander have been excused from practice, for reasons to be determined.
BTW, send your questions to Jalaca, who'll be chatting at 11:45.

Zorn said that Erasmus could have gone a little bit in the game but they are being really careful with him.

Any word on why Springs is not practicing?

Re: Erasmus James activated from PUP list

I am interested to see what this guy has got. It would be cool if he could be the comeback player of the year. Although I personally do not have many expectations from him.

A change of scenary and getting back with his old DLINE coach from college could be great for him or he will just be very average after all his injuries or he gets hurt again. I have a feeling it is going to be the latter.

Though as any fan I hope he it is the first scenario.

Re: Erasmus James activated from PUP list

This guy when healthy is a force. Lets hope he sheds the injuries and Palermo can return him to the 1st round talent that he is. Minnesota also wanted him 20 lbs. heavier. Apparently he is happier with less of a playing weight.

Re: Erasmus James activated from PUP list

It'd be nice if James can provide depth for us at DE. If we can spell Taylor or Carter with James we'd have a good rotation.

Lets hope he stays healthy.

Any idea on how good James is against the run?

DirtyLandry 08-11-2008 11:06 AM

Re: Erasmus James activated from PUP list

He was on a vikings line that was excellent against the run...I think we'll use him primarily on passing downs. Coming out of college he was physical and could play good in line defense. I think he was the 18th overall pick.

Re: Erasmus James activated from PUP list

Well from what I heard in Minny he wasn't the pass rushing force they thought he would be, I never heard anything about him being a great run stopper but then again I never heard anything about him being a horrible run stopper either.

I'm hoping that re-uniting him with his college d-line coach and shedding all those pounds will help him become a better pass rusher like he was in college again.

It sure would be nice if he could play a Justin Tuck role, providing a speed rush from the inside on 3rd down.

I was thinking the same thing.. I'd be happy with a 3rd down DL of Taylor, James, Evans, Carter.. We could do some damage with that line.

Re: Erasmus James activated from PUP list

I know it's a long shot and he more than likely is not the same player that he once projected to be, but I watched him all the time in college and he just dominated the Big Ten. Need I remind anyone that the Big Ten floods the NFL with linemen just about every year.

I wouldn't say that. I think he is motivated and a new team should help. He just needs to stay healthy

I don't get all the excitement over Erasmus James. His best year was a 4 sack season and his collage stats aren't anything to brag about. At this point he is no better than Chris Wilson.
