Status of Jason Taylor's knee (updated: hyperextended knee)

Sounds like the early diagnosis on JT is a sprained/strained knee? I can only hope that its only that minor, that was a nasty angle for his knee to be in.

Glad to see him walk off the field.

Any status update?

We'll know for sure by tomorrow. If it's a sprain, I'll be amazed. The injury looked brutal.

The doc says sprained knee but MRI can't be done yet because they don't have one in Carolina... who doesn't have an MRI these days??

They just said Dr. Andrews is on hand at the game. However, no MRI machine. He is calling it only a Sprain, if so this would be the BEST news of the game!

How long are you out with an knee sprain?

I worked for Carolina for two years, there are a lot of things they are still one step behind in.

Man, I was just thinking....Dr. Andrews must be the richest mofo. He's like a savior for a lot of players since he fixed up Carlson Palmer.

That all depends on the severity of the sprain. If JT heals quick and it's only a sprain....he could very well be ready for the opener.

It's always called a knee sprain until an MRI is done. We still don't know anything.

On another note, did anybody else hear something about a foot injury to Jansen?

Ankle injury on Jansen, not sure if high or low.

Recovery from sprains is of course dependent upon the severity. With a grade 1 sprain, you're talking about stretching of the ligaments, and you can come back in two weeks, sometimes less.

With a grade 3 sprain, you're talking about some partial tearing of ligaments. This takes 6-8 weeks typically.

A grade 2 obviously would be somewhere in between.

I am personally thinking we'll miss Taylor for about the first four weeks of the regular season. That looked like a pretty bad one.

Man this sucks, so we're basically fielding the same team on defense against the Giants....our offense is also the same...and they're playing the same way as last year. ugh.

Your timetable is within reason.

However, I hope your way off with JT's recovery time, I hope the sprain is mild and he's a speed lightning recovery guy.

Even though the injury did look really bad and it could easily take him that long to get on the field, we will know more tomorrow.

re: Status of Jason Taylor's knee (updated: hyperextended knee)

A negative x-ray means absolutely nothing. Soft tissue is very hard to read without an MRI. If Taylor is not done for the year I call this game a huge success.

Hopefully it's one of those deals that looks much worse than it was. I know from experience that you can get your knee twisted up pretty bad and still be ok. I hope that's the case.

He was a savior long before Carsopn Palmer. I know he's been the A#1 surgeon in sports for over a decade.

I'll give JT mad props for the way he tried to gut his ass off the field. He didn't want any help though it was clear he needed it. Lots of guys probably would have been more prudent but you could see how pissed off he was. At least we know he cares.

It always sucks when you get beat - beat - up in football . 1 ) it is a veteran team , 2 ) it is preaseason , 3) I remmber week 3 < 94 > when the eagles went to SF and beat the 49ers < 43 - 3 > ,,,, the 49ers won the Super Bowl that year . Not saying we are a championship team , but I doubt we look like this week 1 . I still think we are 1 dominant OL - Men and 1 dominant DL Men from being a top 5 team . JC needs to stop missing open wr's deep .

Paintrain -- If games ended in the first half we would have won many more games. But it's just wrong to say we beat them twice.

The way our offensive and defensive lines played last night (two units which don't get disrupted by scheme changes, QBs learning to make reads, and DBs learning coverage schemes), we don't match up well with anybody right now.

Our trenches - the core of a football team - were horrific.

As bad as it was last night. Lets don't loss sight that it is still pre-season....the real bullets aren't flying yet.

Yes, it was a horrific showing last night in all phases, but that could very well serve as a wake up call to this football team and coaching staff. We have a small window of time to make corrections and improve before the Giants opener, lets hope the team and staff make the very most of this time.

As the great Vince Lombardi said:

It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.

Let's see how the Redskins get back up from this. Last year we got trounced by New England and still went on to have a playoff season, so all is not lost.

And if I said that, you'd be correct. What I said is we dominated them as in outplayed them in all facets of the game. We can all agree, and the players have echoed this, that we were thoroughly outplaying them Week 3 until we throttled down and they caught us. I know we lost the game even though we outplayed them.

Mort on ESPN just said that it's a hyper-extended knee but he should be ready to go week 1. They're still going to do a MRI as a precaution.
