Positives Week 2
A win is a win and I'll not point out what needs work in my positive thread. Five positives again, everyone.
1. Chris Horton - You could say that he was in the right place at the right time and that other guys deflected the passes and stripped the ball. But Horton not only held onto the ball twice for picks but I'm sure his heart was going a mile a minute when he saw the fumble just lying on the ground. 2. Greg Blache - The Saints are a great offensive team with a ton of weapons at the skill positions even without Colston. Blache defied conventional wisdom as to when he blitzed and how to bottle up their playmakers. Not only did his gameplan work it might have laid a blueprint for other teams to try to emulate. For a team that lives off the big-play, Blache eliminated it and still applied pressure. 3. Santana Moss - 27 yards rushing and 164 receiving including the game's most explosive offensive play and it's last meaningful play. Who says midget's can't run a quick slant? 4. Defensive Line - Taylor and Griffin got a sack apiece but more importantly Bush was hit before he got out of the backfield on most plays and Brees was harrassed all afternoon. Add to it Evans tip leading to Horton's pick and you can see how this group that seemed a weak link six months ago is really looking good. 5. Cooley - You knew that last week was a mirage but it's stll good to see him back. Not only did he get 72 yards receiving, but he was instrumental blocking and did a great job sealing the edge on Portis' first TD. See, I told you it would be easier after a win. I'm sure that there are plenty more positives (duh, we won). |
Re: Positives Week 2
Positive: Sally Jenkins will keep her trap shut this week.

Re: Positives Week 2
I thought it was a great job all around. Our O had trouble findint the endzone but our D stood its ground. Our O made some great plays lat in the game to give us a win as our D still stood its ground. I just hope JC picked himself up off the ground and pick up some convidence today because he needed it. Hail To The Skins!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Positives Week 2
I see the offense getting better and better and these FG's turning into TD's. Same with the D. We finally have some depth and some of these guys are really stepping up. The fact that our top 3 picks have'nt got going yet makes the future look very bright.

Re: Positives Week 2
Positive: JLC won't make any unobjective observations concerning my boy (on a good week) Vinny C.
Negative: Larry Michael is still the Redskins radio announcer. (sorry but I've never heard Herbstreet complain while OSU lost big games where he was in the booth. Michael on the other hand looses his cool on a suposed missed call.) |
Re: Positives Week 2
i was stoked at jason taylors improved run defense i thought that was a big reason for containing reggie most of the day.

Re: Positives Week 2
I think one thing that's going unnoticed is how great the coverage was all game.
Sure, they're without Colston, but in general Brees had NO deep or intermediate options to go to. |

I hope he gets some respect back this year. |
Re: Positives Week 2
Pass protection was other-wordly. Campbell had all friggin day to throw.
And the offensive line did the job in the run game too. That was a very encouraging sign. |
Re: Positives Week 2
Speaking of receivers, it was nice to see the rookies getting some playing time. Also nice to see Kelly make his first catch (tough run after too!).
Devin Thomas has to make some of the acrobatic catches... that's what we got him for! It was a tough grab, but man I'd love to see a rookie pay off like that. |
Re: Positives Week 2
i was impressed with a few players in particular. Heyer, taylor, rocky, landry, horton, moss and carlos.

And Portis!!! ... :) |

I think that another back could have faired better behind that blocking. JK Portis had a good 3 quarters (3YPC 1st Qtr) . |
Re: Positives Week 2
Two guys who are sort of falling under the radar
1. HB Blades: Lost in all the Chris Horton hoopla, Blades made his first start and did a good job holding his own in place of MW 2. Demetric Evans: Great job of causing disruption in the Saints' backfield and pushing the play into the waiting tackles of his teammates. |
Re: Positives Week 2
And how about Chris Samuels? The Redskins ran to the left almost all day and Chris was just manhandling guys.
|
Re: Positives Week 2
Chris showed why he's no stranger to the Pro Bowl. I read where he was hollering at Moss after the game "THATS WHAT YOU DO! THATS WHAT YOU DO BABY!" Feels good to feel good.
|
Re: Positives Week 2
what i'm really happy and encouraged about is the fact that they were losing by 9 points, and they came back and won.they never gave up,a sign of a good and confident team.

Re: Positives Week 2
I think a big positive is that the team got their kinks out of the way. The offense performed very well against a defense they are supposed to play well against, and the defense held a high powered NO offense in check.
I hope this carries into next week when again play against a team with a potent offense. Well I'm not sure how good is the Cardinals' defense, but I think this will be another good test for the defense. I hope the offense plays well too, and get whatever other kinks they need to work on (i.e. red zone offense). This (hopefully) will help us in the upcoming game against a potent defense/offense like the cowboys (and I think we play philly after that, no?) |
Re: Positives Week 2
1. The play of the defensive front seven.. Consistent pressure, sure tackling, no big plays from Reggie Bush. If they can replicate this most weeks we will have a great chance to win.
2. HB Blades.. Playing out of position he made 6 tackles, was around the ball all day and did nothing to hurt the team. 3. Greg Blache.. Coming out of the gate down 2 starters, he devised a solid gameplan to minimize Bush's impact and protect against the deep ball.. I said all offseason we're not going to miss Grilliams as much as people thought! 4. Jason Campbell.. He's making strides, improving, growing more confident and his teammates are gaining that confidence in him as well. Coming back from 2 scores down in the 4th quarter, the haters said you hadn't done it yet, what do they say now. 5. Jim Zorn.. Congrats on the 1st win, smart move with the Z-Shade and I love the 4th down call! Very un-Gibbsian call, a welcome change! |
Re: Positives Week 2
Hey, guys I've been on lock down. How are Rocky and Heyer playing? Did Rocky start?
|
Re: Positives Week 2
Damn, I hope the guys can keep it up!!! Dominant performance even though the score was sort of close. If these guys can stay in this groove for a nice stretch we are definitely contenders. We can beat Dallas, and probably Philly. This MNF game is a shootout. Not much D.
