MNF: Star Spangled Banner
 

I figured this was off topic because it wasn't pertaining to football, just the performance.

This chick (Who I'm sure 9/10 of you haven't heard of) sang the Star Spangled Banner last night at the Cowboys/Eagles game because of the NFL celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and has pretty much caught all kinds of hell for sucking. (Cowboys fans booed her but then again, we're talking about Cowboys fans)

Wanted to know what you guys thought if you saw it, was she bad? Was she disrespecting the song? Granted, her singing was off in places but I in no way thought she deserved to be booed...

i saw it last night and as soon as she was finished murdering that song i came on to the warpath but no one was talking about it. she was absolutely awful.:spank:

She has ONE song that was semi-popular.. Last summer I believe. Pop sensation is NOT the right word used to describe her. More like pop, "flash in the pan". She hasn't had a hit song since then.

I'm sure they could've found a far more suitable Hispanic person to sing...

Yeah she butchered it and I mentioned it during another thread... I was on the WP also, and thought about bringing it up, but since no one else did I backed off and went to bed early...

IT was nothing short of abysmal... but do you boo in that instance? Probably because while shes murdering our national anthem she's trying to give the camera all these retarded fucking sultry looks... I mean that's patriotic right??? Sexing up the camera while you slaughter a song that represents your country?

I thought it was absolutely gut wrenching. I watched a college game the other day and they had this guy singing it and he paused at the beginning when he got his first taste of stadium feedback, and was humble and nervous and completely brought the house down.. it was awesome. I think he was military... it may have been the thursday night NC Rutgers game...

This was the exact opposite, but covered in bile and dog shit.

it was horrible. no need to add anything to an already beautiful song. just sing it like it was written. and her voice was really off key, too

She totally deserved to be booed. Her performance showed she was only interested in showcasing her own talent and not delivering the song with the reverence and respect it deserves. The anthem's words and melody stands on its own and is one of the few songs that sounds worse the more you try to jazz it up.

If you're going to go with the "I'm over-the-top and changing pitch like crazy because I want to show off" theme, make sure you can actually sing. She was horrible.

Yeah, some people can pull it off but she just wasnt. The ending was really bad and her voice kinda screeched.

If she would have just tried to sing the anthem and did a bad job that would have been one thing and the booing would have been uncalled for. She tried to jazz it up and then sang like crap so she gets booooooooooooooooood. Heck, I even bood at home.

I thought it was fine (not great) until the last verses...then it went downhill very fast. Like a Mack Truck that sideswipes a Vespa.

Did she deserved to be booed? Probably...I probably would have have laughed afterwards more than booed, but that's me.

Oh, and I've only heard of her because my wife bought her CD...which is total crap, and she doesn't even listen to it anymore.

Agreed, up until she decided to sex up the national anthem she was just another not so great anthem singer (it is a tough piece to sing well). Those last 30 seconds or so are horrible. Beyond horrible. Sean Taylor coming free on a backside blitz horrible.

OK, she didn't exactly pull off a stellar performance, but to boo her is just uncalled for. First off she was "trying" to sing the National Anthem. Secondly, she was a hispanic singing during Hispanic Heritage month (or whatever it's called). We all talk about how disrepsectfull it was for her to "chop" up the Anthem like that, but it is also disrespectfull to boo right afterwards, regardless of the performance. I am sure that most of us understand that she was the one getting boo'd and not the Anthem or Hispanics themselves, but not everyone knows that. Some people could have taken the boos the wrong way. At first, I did.

To get to the point, 2 wrongs do not make a right. If you want to disapprove while still showing respect after a bad Anthem performance, just stand there in complete silence. The point will be taken.

Reasoning: Naturally, right after an Anthem performance the crowd cheers. A boo is the complete opposite it sounds as if you totally disagree with the song, the performance, and everything about it. Silence says, "I disaprove of the performance, but I am still going to show repect for my Anthem."

Alright I'm done nit picking. I am bracing myself for those who disagree, but I am sure that none of those who do have a military background either.

Pretty much the whole thing was out of key. I was horrified watching it. Although I do have to admit to being surprised by the severity of the reaction she received. Poor girl.

Well I understand, which is why I was torn about it. She definitely deserved it, but how do you boo after the national anthem? I think the right thing to do would have been to salute the flag with my right hand and pelt her in the face with a tomato or shoe with my left.
