Looking at the schedule...
Do you guys realize after this week in Philly we have a very favorable 3 game stretch that includes home against the Rams, home against the Browns, and away at Detroit? We could realistically be 7-1 or 6-2 heading into the Monday nighter against the Steelers.
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
There is no reason we shouldn't be 7-1. Westbrook is still not looking good to play:
Coach Andy Reid said Brian Westbrook (ankle) wouldn't have been able to go if the Eagles were practicing on Monday. Clearly, Westbrook wasn't too close to playing Sunday night in Chicago. The Eagles still consider him day to day, but his status for Week 5 could again come down to a game-time decision. See if he's able to practice Wednesday. Per Philadelphia Enquirer
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
The best part is that I don't see a single non-divisional team on the schedule that I don't think we match up well with. Obviously playing Seattle at Seattle has been the bane of our existence for some time but they are NOT playing good football this season so I think we have a much better chance.

Re: Looking at the schedule...
I really hate to look ahead, normally I don't look at the schedule much, but seeing that upcoming 3 game stretch has me drooling.
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
I agree it's certainly possible to be 6-2 going into that Monday Night Game.
I think we should all have some cautious optimism here. We are a team w/ a new coach and a new system. We've won a few games in a row and played very well thru the majority of those games. We are not in a position to think we are that much better than many teams out there. A couple more decisive wins, then maybe. But I'm not ready to believe we are going to win the NFC East yet. The skins still have some work to do. It was a big road win but it's just one road win. But, yes the schedule is favorable for the skins, but I still realize we are a work in progress. Hopefully we can take another step this week in Philly. |
Re: Looking at the schedule...
I think if the team continues on its present course, there is a real chance to get on a serious roll. They pretty well controlled the game from the midway point of the 1st qtr on sunday. I am excited about where this is going.
I love coach z's post game press conferences, you can tell he loves the game, his team and coaching he is like a big kid just the shot we needed IMO |

With more time the offense should only continue to improve. Of course there will be bumps in the road along the way, I'm not ready to say it's smooth sailing from here out, but you've gotta like the fact we're sitting in a pretty favorable position considering how tough the early season schedule was set up. |
Re: Looking at the schedule...
Even as we look at Philly, I see St. Louis as a huge trap game, they have a new coach, coming out of a bye, Al Saunders knows our defense, and probably would like nothing better than to beat us. And if we beat Philly, we really could be sitting on top of the NFC world.

He knows Williams D, not so much on Blache. The positive is Bulger and company are still struggling in digesting that infamous 700 page playbook. |

Re: Looking at the schedule...
Well if we win this week then I'll say we turned a neg into a positive. I think Zorn has shown that he is smart enough not to look past any game so I'm not really worried about that.
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
if we can pull out a win this week it will put the redskins in a totally new light. The bandwagons will roll and people will start to give this team some cred for being a competitor, i personally think that the browns game should be a good one. Who knows tho? Lets focus on this week...if we get past those eagles it will be time to drool a little bit and get anxious!

Re: Looking at the schedule...
As always the NFC games are huge. Skins have a lot riding on this one. If they do not at least split the divisional games the playoffs might have to wait till next year. I have been lick'in my chops as well. 7-1 at the half way point should put us in.

Re: Looking at the schedule...
I agree about st louis. They'll have haslett having 2 weeks to prepare for us.

I hate looking ahead. One game at a time and treat each one as if it's just as hard as Dallas.... That's the only way to make it to 7-1. |

You're assuming anyone actually figured the 700 pages out. :D OK, maybe Campbell knows it. He studies hard. |

Meanwhile on the Dallas forums.... fans are calling for Jason Garretts head and declaring him a moron. Did they think we were going to go undefeated all season? Sometimes its a little embarrassing...

I'd be more embarrassed at TO's comments after the game, about how they didn't get him the ball enough and that is why you lost. They had 60 offensive plays, 20 went to TO, and he dropped like 8 balls. One third of the O going his direction is not enough, string a few weeks like this together and the 'new mature' TO will be long gone...
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
It's obvious Philly can't punch it in the endzone w/o Westbrook. We need to shutdown their rookie wr like we did with TO and our chances are good to come out with a win in Philly. 7-1 is definitly doable the way this team is playing.

It will just end up making you pissed off as a fan when they drop a game they are supposed to win. Now, I feel optimistic because we have a veteran squad that has been under Gibbs for several years and Gibbs was pretty good at preaching humility and winning winnable games. I think Zorn has continued that approach so we should be in good shape. However the claims of going '7-1' or even '6-2' are just far-fetched at this point. How about, "I think we have a great chance of winning this Sunday at Philly!" |
Re: Looking at the schedule...
Just to tack on to my last point, we have stayed relatively healthy and played near mistake-free football - AND we have been winning by small margins.
Now the latter point has a lot to do with execution but the injuries issue is a bit more haphazard. So what happens when things start going wrong for us, as they inevitably will at some point over the 16-game season? That's another question that needs to be considered before we start claiming '7-1'. |
Re: Looking at the schedule...
They wont let down this week at eagles just hope we play as well.go chris horton that pick saved the game.bad for reed douty good for redskins
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
the remaining schedule looks manageable rams browns lions bengals niners ravens.I see strong finish. not like the year we went 7 and 1 with gus frerotte and didnt make the playoffs i will never forget him headbutting the wall. after that game we went down the freaking tubes
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
Don't like the Rams coming to DC following a bye with the new head coach. And hated to see Dallas and Philly back-to-back; on the road too! But I do like having all three division teams coming to FedExField during the second half of the season.

Re: Looking at the schedule...
i just hope the skins keep playing like they have been and don't get cocky going into philly.

I would have to agree about it being a trap, maybe not in terms of Al. I think the Rams are gonna win a game or two soon, new coach, teams will sleep on them, and they have nothing to lose. I am scared more of this game than the Philly game to be honest. I don't really mind if we lose against the Eagles, but losing versus the Rams would not be good. |

There is no such thing as a favorable stretch in the NFL. Just ask Denver. |

We can still get beat if Westbrook doesn't play. |
Re: Looking at the schedule...
I'm WAY more scared of Philly's D than the Cowboy's D. They are generating a lot of sacks and I'm pretty sure their coverage is a lot better than the Cowboys.
That being said, the Cowboys put a lot of points up on them too (and Bears INCLUDING the end zone INT by Orton) so I really don't know how to feel. |
Re: Looking at the schedule...
If we can get a W this weekend in Philly I'll start to feel pretty optimistic about this season and our schedule. But after the choke act we pulled in 96' I won't start counting our chickens until they hatch ever again.

Re: Looking at the schedule...
westbrook kills us.without him we have a better chance. just contain mcnabb and play good defense against the run

One game at a time people, we dont want to pull a Dallas do we???
|
Re: Looking at the schedule...
We do have a favorable schedule coming up and should be no worse than 6-2. It's also pretty exciting to have the NFC East road games out of the way already and we're not even to Columbus Day.

They are currently #1 in the league in sacks, and #1 against the run. Their LBs are playing fantastic, and despite a shaky outing in the 1st half against Chicago, their secondary is very good. Not to mention they are playing at home and will have a big chip on their shoulder after that loss on national TV on Sunday night. This game concerns me. If Westbrook doesn't play that will really help, but Jim Johnson's blitz schemes make me fear for Jason's life. I'm not looking at any game on the schedule except this one. |

I think the playoffs are a chance this year. Hail to the redskins! |
