Blowing out Detroit
Following 52-7 blowout loss to Patriots, Redskins wondering how it happened
Following 52-7 blowout loss to Patriots, Redskins wondering how it happened - USATODAY.com Everyone remember that game? It was only last year. I'm sure the same people that are now talking about doing the same thing to Detroit forgot all about that 52-7 asskicking we got and how it felt as a fan. Really stupid comments like maybe Portis can get 300 yards and break the team record in rushing yardage. Detroit isn't dead, it's a wounded animal. Remember this? 1989 Dallas 13 Redskins 3. Dallas ended the season 1-15. Dallas Cowboys 0 3 7 3 13 Washington Redskins 0 0 3 0 3 How about, if we are fortunate to control the game, that some of starters can get a rest and some of the new guys can get some experience. I'm looking for a win. Never was interested all the other crap that's being talked about. |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
I'm with you on that, but I would like to have at least one week where I'm not sweating it out to the very end!

Re: Blowing out Detroit
It's time to put the rest of the NFC on notice.

Re: Blowing out Detroit
The problem with the Lions goes much further than the hapless 1-15 '89 Cowboys, who with virtually the same personnel, went on to be very successful under Johnson and Switzer.
The Lions stuck too long with Matt Millen, so their Front Office is just now reorganizing. 27th in Total Offense, dead last in Total Defense. A QB that has 7 career games (2 career starts) under his belt since 2005, and cannot figure out that when he runs out of the back of the endzone, the play is dead. An offense that has good personnel, but no one to get them the ball. A no name defense that can't seem to stop anything. Their one bright spot was dumping salary for draft picks when they traded Roy Williams... Now while I'm not predicting record shattering, but if the Skins can't put up 30 points on this team, while pinning them down for the count, the Skins will be in trouble going down the stretch. Great football teams beat up on teams like the Lions. If the Skins are a great team, they will have to prove it Sunday... |

Maybe because it has no point. Look, I get what he's saying but he didn't need to start a new thread to say it. Should I lock it? What say the people? |

Re: Blowing out Detroit
Lock it up. Im still wondering what this is about.
|
Re: Blowing out Detroit
WE aren't scoring and that should be a concern. Detroit should be an easy win, but so should have been the Browns at home.

Yeah, guess I threw some stuff out there without connecting them together. Lock it if you want. However, I think that the Skins could use this game a couple different ways, as long as they have in under control. 1. Rest some players 2. Rate some players 3. Try some different plays/work on exhisting ones. And really really try not to lose to an 0fer team like we did in 89 to the Cowgirls. |

You have to admit that first half on Sunday was a a nightmare. Who plays that way??? .. ugh. We better not do that again..... |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
I think it would be more realistic to compare Detroit to roadkill than a wounded animal. I understand your point but it's kinda been driven into the ground. Any team can win on any given Sunday. There's a difference between overlooking a team and being confident. I don't think the players are overlooking Detroit but they should feel confident going into the game. If we do get a big lead I think we should just run it out instead of giving future opponents some film to look at. I was'nt wondering how it happened against the Pats, I was wondering why Williams did'nt blitz more and knock the crap out of Brady.
|
Re: Blowing out Detroit
Except for the Giants, we've outplayed everyone else, both on offense and on defense. We should've torn up the Rams and the Browns, but we just couldn't score. I hope whatever it is will be corrected by Sunday and we maul the Lions.

Re: Blowing out Detroit
Doesn't seem like something lockable. He's saying beware of the Lions. People on here whined and cried constantly after the Patriots put the hurt on us, then turn around and want us to destroy the Lions. For the record, I want us to destroy the Lions but didn't have an issue with what the Patriots did to us.
The Redskins need to stop leaving teams in games. We can 'outplay' everyone, but if we keep it within 7 points you will lose some of those games. This is an offensive game now, the offense gets a lot of rules in their favor. Really, had the Browns not gone for it on 4th down (then Portis may have never fumbled, but that's the what-if game) it very well could have gone to overtime (or lost if he hits that final FG.) |

i'd love to see him do that so would have a very good chance of beating the all time most yards in a season record.i'd also love to see Portis get all the attention he and the oline would get if it happened.if anything it was stupid for you to bring that 52-7 blowout against the pats into a place where it did'nt belong einstein!!!! |

Re: Blowing out Detroit
I'm just sort of thinking that we're not that type of team to blow anyone out. We should win but I just don't see a blow out. Our offense just isn't capable of putting up 35 + points. But I think we should score in the low to mid 20's and they'll be in the mid teens.

That is my point about being concerned about the team. WE need to score more if we are going to make a serious run. We will not beat The Steelers with only scoring 14 or the Gmen in round #2 for that matter. |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
You know what ? I know what 52-7 felt like. I remember what 36-0, 37-0, 45-10, and 41-7 felt like too. Those were a list of a couple other times the Skins were blown out dating back to 1998. I wonder if their fans gave a shit how WE felt. FUCK THEM. If the players feel like shit, sorry. You don't care about the opponent when you're celebrating either. No one is saying to go for it on 4th down like Belibitch did last year while running the score up. If they get blown out then they do. But to say that I should have some kind of remorse because I know what it's like as a fan to watch a blow out ? Hell fuck ass no !
I hope the Skins beat the Dogshit out of the Lions on Sunday, just like I hope for every game. |

A) This thread should be locked. Nothing being discussed here that can't fit in another thread. B) We aren't scoring nearly enough, so I am concerned. |

Re: Blowing out Detroit
san fransisco was a "wounded animal" when we put up 52 on them, so, yeah... i'd like to blow them out.
|
Re: Blowing out Detroit
we've lost to one winless team this season, i dont want to make it two....
offense, get the head, out of the ass... convert key third downs and put TD's on the board... Suisam, stop missing FG's. one per game is not going to cut it man .... whoever said we are not capable of putting up 35 points .... thats a joke... the talent on this team, coach zorn included, can do that EVERY game if they executed properly. If we don't win this week by a few, and dominate the game, i would be more concerned than I am now with leaving teams in games. B/C down the stretch that won't fly... but I beleive in Zorn fixing the scoring problem ASAP. 'Nuff Said. |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
Let's also remember just like arizona for some reason detroit can never beat us. So just this once cause the lions are much worse than the rams and browns, Let' stick it to 'em stop being vaginas and really kick there ass before we really have to play against pittsburgh.

We have'nt so far but, We're capable a couple plays here and there and we could've pulled away in most of our wins. Let's take the no one touched reggie brown play for example. Or going prevent against the cowboys and saints and giving them points, Hell if Portis does'nt fumble no reason we don't keep runnning and win 21-3. We can do it just need a couple breaks. |

thats my point no game in this league today will be an easy win regardless of their records.. thats what worries me about all 16 games we play... |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
That loss to the Cowgirls in '89 STILL hurts. Shut up about it.
We WON'T be the 1 win for Detroit this year (if they get one). They're far worse than even that Dallas team. |

Re: Blowing out Detroit
Well... I really don't care that other fans should be upset if we blow them out. If there had been a pats fan last year that told me he was sorry and thought his team was classless I'd have thought he was a bitch.
I was upset @ the fourth down play in the redzone up by >30 pts. That was just absurd and showcasing the fact that they had no respect for us at all. It was a statement and I hope they get throttled by every team with a chance for decades to come. I think we can blow them out with a little class, but at the same time I'm not gonna lose sleep if they get their feelings hurt. If we don't stomp them, our team needs a lot of work. It won't be because they're a wounded animal. Unless they're a wounded bunny rabbit. They pretty much just die at the thought of being wounded. |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
Without weighing in on whether this is a separate thread from the Skins v. Lions "predictions" thread, I think the points that (a) we have to be wary not getting too cocky about playing a team like Detroit which is utterly desparate for a win, and (b) our offense needs to get clicking.
It worries me that folks are talking about the Steelers game already. Don't get me wrong -- I think we will win and will likely win big. And we should -- our offense put up nearly 30 points on much better defenses so far this season. But we've got to stop beating teams so soundly in the statistics category without lighting up the scoreboard. We can't let Detroit hang around like we did the Rams, Cleveland, etc. |

Did you forget that the Browns stomped the Giants the week befor they played us. I thought we could have scored more on the browns but I was happy with the win but to say we should have blown them out is a stretch after what they had done to the Giants. |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
I doubt the team is looking ahead to Pitt, because we learned our lesson against the Rams. Expect a good effort by the Skins, here's to hoping our scoring offense finally shows up.

We did not change the running playes and we see how that is working but the passing game will take some time to get all on the same page. I think we have allready out played ourself so far and it should only get better as JC and the WR's get flowing in the WC offense. How many people where saying it could take a year or more to see this WC O start to gel. Alot and I think we have surprised people with how well we are actually doing. |

At worst we may have to eat some crow, but that will be the least of our worries if detroit beats us. I don't get why many of us think we have some kind of effect on the game's outcome. I mean I understand people beleiving in jinxes to an extent but some folks get downright ridiculous about fans being confident or "looking past" games. F it. Not saying you, but you, and this thread in general, just reminded me of something that has been bugging me since someone mentioned that by discussing another certain team we were somehow empowering them. This mentality just completely escapes my comprehension. I mean if Zorn held a presser today and deflected questions to discuss the steelers game, saying, "the lions are in the bag, let's talk about a real team" I'd be more than a little concerned... but I can't think that a fan underestimating anything has a thing to do with the outcome of a game. |
Re: Blowing out Detroit
FD ... Not saying I'm impatient with the passing game, i simply said converting key 3rd downs keeping drives alive to get TD's 2 put teams away... ... we can score so we should, and if we dont get td's more consistently i'd be worried.... and bitched about suisam missing a few here n there some of them costly in our losses.... i was saying we have the ability to put up that amount of points, and they will come.
