Not surprising news here. I hope no one expected these guys to re-enact the Gunfight at the OK Corral out there in Ashburn...

I am glad they made up. But Zorn has to realize who is his bread and butter and stop thinking we are winning on his "genius" alone. Its been Portis making critical first downs and wearing out defenses and taking pressure off of Campbell. I am wondering if anyone saw First Take on ESPN. Everyone I heard commenting on it was in Clinton's corner. Clinton was the leading rusher in the NFL. He was the one who was helping us win our games. As soon as we went away from him. That's when we started losing. It doesn't take a "genius" to figure that out!! ZORN STEP YOUR GAME UP!!

I'm glad they made up, too. Unfortunately our offense couldn't blow the doors of a doll house.

Ya they should just run CP out there by himself and let him hike the ball to himself and run over the 11 defenders by himself because he is the only reason we are winning.

Seriously the offense line has done a good job of run blocking in the games CP did well in. They just suck at pass protection. I am not saying CP is not a big part of it, he is. But he is not the whole team. If our defense wasn't playing as good as it is we would be lucky to win 3-4 games this year. The defense is the reason we are doing as good as we are. The have given our offense a short field so many times and we have done nothing with it.

"He's going through his first year as a head coach in this league. He's learning," quarterback Jason Campbell said. "There's things he's trying to adapt to. Us as players, we're trying to adapt to him also. Sometimes there are things that guys have to sit down and talk to each other about and make sure we're on the same page."

What kind of common sense garbage is this?

Re: Portis and Zorn meet

I'm glad they "made up". I suspect Zorn will run CP until he cant run anymore for the rest of the season. Injured or not, sore or in perfect condition CP will be running and running. It will help keep CPs mouth shut and if there's anything left of him at the end of the season all the better.

Re: Portis and Zorn meet

I've been sick of Portis ever since he criticized the offensive line back in September. He can't stand it if he's not the reason the Redskins win a game, and if they lose he doesn't want to accept any of the blame. Maybe Portis should criticize the O-Line again because that's when they started winning. Why didn't the Redskins just sit him for a game, maybe even without pay for comments detrimental to the team. I'd rather see Ladell and Sellers run the ball more rather than Whiney-Britches. I think of them as more true Redskins and W-B as a Denver import.

Can you believe we traded a future Hall of Famer for him? Plus a second round pick??? Gibbs should have to take him and TJ Duckett and put them on his NASCAR payroll. Plus Brandon Lloyd!

Maybe we should bring back Trung Candidate, while we're at it. Oh and maybe Steve Spurrier.

 These guys are humans. They have feelings. They get upset just like you and me. Did Portis handle his anger in a distasteful fashion? Probably. But for these people calling him whiney and crybaby and bitchy. I would love for those same people to go out there on a football field for 4-5 months, play through pain and adversity, go through a 5 game losing streak and then come back here and say, that it's wrong to bitch or be upset.

Hypocrites.

Edit: Okay there was a win in there somewhere. I think we've lost 4 of 5. Oh well. Its still shitty. :)

Does it occur to anyone else that we scored POINTS once Zorn decided to move to more aggressive passing attack and sat Portis?

I actually like passing more. It was refreshing to see a game based more on passing rather than run, draw, screen, punt. Besides. We couldn't run through that Ravens D anyway. It would've been a waste of time.

Re: Portis and Zorn meet

What a surprise! They met and talked!

This kinda shit happens to NFL teams when they lose 4 out of 5. It's a learning experience for Zorn, but I certainly don't see him as a "my way or the highway" inflexible type guy. And CP, is, well, CP. He's frustrated and he blows off steam. Wish he had done it in house, but whatever.

Winning is the only real cure for this type of thing. And to be honest, if they all weren't pissed and frustrated, then I'd be worried. That would be a real sign of "checking out."

The only silver lining of y'all winning the SB (outside of keeping the pats from an undefeated season, MAYBE) was that Tiki wasn't there.

Which, helps us now. Because like NY last year, we probably don't deserve the playoffs at all, but could still win the SB.

I think that had more to do with field position than strategy.

Bottom line guys. Without Portis we lose. We know it. Redskins know it. Portis knows it. Running all season hurt and still one of the best in the NFL. I think he deserves and has earned respect. Blocks better than most O linemen. If anyone is protectin J.C. Portis is when he's not running.

Maybe, but on the TD we got the ball at the baltimore 30 and made 5 plays, and scored. I am not attributing it solely to strategy, but how many times have we been in opponents territory, and struggled finding the endzone?

Also, I doubt Portis would have been on the practice field today if he'd finished the game in Bmore.

This is a tempest in a teapot.

Re: Portis and Zorn meet

Portis isn't as valuable as advertised. Portis has no explosiveness, no break away speed, and the worst balance of any NFL running back I have ever seen. Running backs are a dime a dozen...its all about line play. Portis has great numbers, I won't dispute that, but he is way overrated and buys into his own hype then thinks he gets to play by a different set of rules. Guys like him are a cancer to a team.

SBXVII 12-10-2008 11:37 PM

Re: Portis and Zorn meet
Other injuries of note: Shawn Springs, Chris Horton, Kedric Golston, Cornelius Griffin, Marcus Washington, and London Fletcher all did not practice (although Golston did get a little bit of stretching in, I think). And Carlos Rogers was out with a stomach flu. So the number of players practicing was a little on the light side.
This is from the Redskins message blog.....I guess quite a few players will be riding the bench this week cause they are not practicing.....right coach? gotta treat each player equally and fairly. Oh and also call the player out on tv. Say something like Fletcher was benched cause he has not practiced for two weeks. and something about execution. that always sounds good.

I like Portis... He's having his best year in a long time. I don't mind that he doesn't practice as long as he performs in the game. My former teammate Gary Clark missed alot of practice time because of his hamstrings but always gutted it out on Sunday and had more good games than bad... Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that he plays great over the last three games... As long as the players respect him he will not be a cancer to the team but if any of the key players ever go against him then you are right... It could hurt the team...

Zorn said Portis didn't run the right routes and stayed in to block when he needed to be out as a safety valve. Plus, Ladell played well. Whatever. This is getting silly.
