End Zone celebration
Did anyone see Wes Welkers snow angel touchdown celebration? I and my kids thought it was fantastic! He was fined $10,000 for it. Of all the rules in the NFL this one kills me! Remember the Redskin Fun Bunch? That was great!
I know this isn't a Redskin post but does this bother anyone else? In such a emotional game for players as well as fans to penalize for a celebration somehow seems ridiculous! Don't tell me you guys are not jumping of your chairs when we score. I do. How do they expect them to just walk out of the endzone. |
Re: End Zone celebration
geeezz, I guess i'm the only one.
Go skins!!!!!! |
Re: End Zone celebration
I saw it. It was cool but i guess you have to punish him like you do the others. they should have about five to ten seconds to celebrate as long as they don't taunt. I still don't see how they let them do the Lambau leap and don't say anything.

Well, with the Welker thing, it wasn't about the amount of time. It's that now players are not allowed to go to the ground, or something to that effect. |
Re: End Zone celebration
Idiots like Ocho Cinco and TO are to blame for their antics and the rules being enforced to prevent that type of behavior.

I guess but it just seems to take somthing special out of the game. I think the fines are ok but should be used with more caution. Taunting? Where's the dresses. |

If they want to perform in the endzone I suggest they sign for American Idol or something like that. I say just play the game, a celebration is ok, but when it becomes a show of what can I do to outdo the other guy's celebration; that's when the line should be drawn. |

you're bringing this further than the original content. I don't think they should sing. To me it's no differant than after a sack going into defensive territory and celebrating. It adds excitement! And fules the D That's all I'm saying. The fun bunch was not a taunt but a celebration that fired up the team and the fans. I don't know personally I miss it. |

I think SF was exaggerating. And what he was getting at, if you wanna perform, go on AI and that the endzone is not a place to showoff. |
Re: End Zone celebration
I hate the rule. period. if you score then celebrate. I LOVED THE FUN BUNCH. If you don't want the other side to celebrate stop them from scoring. seems simple enough.

Re: End Zone celebration
yes,I enjoyed the Welker snow angel, but if T.O. would have done it,would you have enjoyed that? Probably not,but yeah,I think NFL stands for no fun league
|
Re: End Zone celebration
I like anything spontaneous without props that isn't meant as a taunt.
|
Re: End Zone celebration
they should get 20 seconds after the TD is ruled good. haha. for real though..."NO CELEBRATIONS" is a shit rule. i agree with most of the rulebook. But that rule is just NO FUN.

I realize that I was only being jokingly sarcastic because he mentioned AI. No worries! |
Re: End Zone celebration
If your up 27 to nothing, you should be allowed to poop in the other teams endzone.

lol I'm just visualizing this and for some reason I find it hilarious. Maybe it's the eggnog. |

I'm pretty sure you'd get a delay of game penalty for that. |
Re: End Zone celebration
I'm probably not going to get much backup on this one, but as long as players don't make obscene gestures or expose themselves I think they should be allowed to do whatever they damn well please.
Why? Cause I know if i scored a TD in the NFL I'd do like eight cartwheels and a back-flip. And no I don't think the TDs would ever get old. That's just me. |
Re: End Zone celebration
If I crossed the goal line, I'd pet my turtle.

... probably gonna fall under the category of obscene gesture. I reckon a fine, suspension and hundreds of public apologies will be in order. |

Re: End Zone celebration
I think the whole endzone celebration rule is carried a bit too far like most rules in the NFL...including hitting the QB.

Yeah i feel that way 90% of the time... the other 10% JC is getting plastered in the backfield and then I wish there was a "touch-rule" in place for QBs. I'm not very consistent. ... to his credit, which I don't think he's gotten much even around here, JC has stood up tall in the pocket and taken some mother f@ck%ng shots this year. He hasn't bitched, hasn't called out his line. Whether he plays really well or makes too many critical errors in a particular game the kid doesn't back down against the onslaught. That completion he made (forget the receiver) on Sunday when the Eagles blitzed and Jason took a shot, which actually looked helmet to helmet on the replay, was pretty impressive. |
Re: End Zone celebration
JC is a pretty good size dude and he plays like it. I thought for sure we'd get a call on that helmet to helmet hit, and I know I just sound like a fan, but I've seen so many no-calls against the Skins opposition it does'nt even surprise me anymore. I remember a Cowboy dragging Jeff George, when he played for us, 5 yards down the field by the collar after a sack and there was no call. Sounds like sourgrapes I know.

Thats another stupid rule. I believe if the QB is going to run he should not be afforded the luxury to slide to avoid a hit. If the QB doesn't want a hit, he either shouldn't run or make sure he gets out of bounds. |
Re: End Zone celebration
blah blah blah guys only play for the money, never for fun anymore!
OMG SOMEONE'S HAVING FUN, FINE HIM!!1 UGH WHAT A SHOWOFF IDIOT!!! |

and the play shouldn't be blown dead as soon as the quarterback starts falling, though it did keep us from losing a fumble or two this year |
Re: End Zone celebration
how about acting like you have been there before? because im pretty sure just about everyone that has scored an N.F.L touchdown has scored before, in some type of football
|
Re: End Zone celebration
I agree the NFL has gotten a little too tough on celebrations, but it is what it is and guys know the rules, so I can't feel bad for them when they get hit with fines.

I see your point but, thats almost like saying these guys should grow up and get real jobs. I've seen a touchdown before but that won't keep me from celebrating the next time the Skins score a touchdown!!! |
Re: End Zone celebration
At least its not like playing in the VHSL. Celebration results in a callback of the touchdown.
As far as the rule... They are the same for everyone you can act like an idiot after scoring (I know I would) but it comes with a price. You make your bed, you lay in it. |

Sedrick Ellis' snow-boulder was better... |

co-sign, hate the rule.

Re: End Zone celebration
Playing in high school (I know, no comparison to the NFL) our coach told us that anytime we scored we should the O should celebrate with the man who crossed the plane, because we all busted our asses in practice and got beat up in games just to get those 6 points. He said we deserved it. I don't see why that doesn't aply here
|
Re: End Zone celebration
it does apply, and if the team scores they ought to celebrate. The only reason to stop it is because players making tons of money are getting their feelings hurt. both sides need to grow up and let the fans enjoy when their team scores(insert Redskin comment here :()

I'll be honest, I actually thought that one was pretty cool... I thought the Joe Horn thing was pretty cool and I enjoyed some of Chad Johnson's was creative, but he tried to overdo anything... Overall I get the idea that you need to stop it so guys dont keep trying to do it, but I kind of enjoyed the celebrations for the most part. |
