Coaching Staff Report Card (Bucs game)

Gave them an "A" as I thought they called a great game and have completely turned around a underachieving defense and piss poor protecting offense from last season.

I'll point our Gregg Williams agressive calling at the end of the game to put it away with a sack rather than to sit in a prevent.

Redskins_P 09-13-2004 12:27 PM

Voted a B. I think we should've challenged that play when Brunell CLEARLY got the first down, then got a bad spot. Besides that Gibbs did a good job of calling the plays as well as Williams on D.

MTK 09-13-2004 12:30 PM

'A' all the way. The team was very well prepared, they played with a lot of emotion but played smart. Great gameplans on both sides of the ball.

bridaman51 09-13-2004 12:33 PM

How can you not go A the team was so well prepared, very few penaltys good game plan did not play above there level

JWsleep 09-13-2004 12:34 PM

Good prep, good discipline, good play calling, especially on D. And time was perfectly managed down the stretch for the win. Williams' (and Bugel's) energy on the sideline was great, and Gibbs, afterwards, gave everyone game balls and hugs. What else do you want?

A+

I gave them an A as they were very prepared. Not sure that I like the conservatism in the second half with the offense, but they did grind it out at the end when needed. Hope the "old men" can keep up the stamina!!!

They get an A from me. It's a pleasure to see what a professional coaching staff looks like. Great job.

That Guy 09-13-2004 01:03 PM

A, though i think gibbs was too conservative in play calling and needs to learn how to use a red flag (did we even use any time outs anyways???). Williams was just about perfect.. i mean he not only got bowen to not blow coverages, he got him to whack someone is a different color uniform. Who knows, maybe even jimoh will be useful this year.

I went with B, because there is a little room for improvement. Danny Smith's Special Teams unit has room for improvement, and we should have used a challenge on Brunell's scramble.
It's nice to be able to vote as high as "B" without engaging in substantial self-delusion. Welcome back, Joe.

I give them a B+. There is definitely room for improvement.

MTK 09-13-2004 02:05 PM

Gibbs too conservative? Some of you guys got too used to watching Spurrier. lol

Personally I loved all the running, the counters, Bucs being put on their butts, etc.

That's Redskins football, control the clock, smashmouth and physical.

bedlamVR 09-13-2004 04:13 PM

I think A for that game because how well they have turned the team around. They were ready to play and didn't give up untill the game was done. The thing I liked best though was the scouting and the way the game was planned to take the Bucs appart, especially on Defence stacking the field in the 5-8 yard range challenging Brad to beat us deap something that he doesn't like doing.

I can only hope it was not another false dawn and we have something equally special for week two.

That Guy 09-13-2004 05:27 PM

i don't think week two will be too bad... week three will be harder, eagles week... ugh, that's the REAL test...

Daseal 09-13-2004 06:12 PM

I gave them a B for a few reasons.

First of all our special teams play just didn't get the job done. When a team doesn't get a first done yet still nails a FG after a punt we have problems.

I think Gibbs should have challenged a few plays, and although it worked out I'm a bit curious why we didn't just run the clock out at the end. As far as master play calling for Gibbs. He called a total of 8 passes for the WRs and HBacks, and the RBs got a few balls thrown their way. Very conservative. Stick with whatever works, no doubt, but I'm not going to say the playcalling was anything innovative or inspirational.

All in all a very solid game. The coaches had them ready. Bugel got extra credit!

That Guy - Week 3 is the Cowboys game. On Monday night. Which I hope will be the brightest part of our season! We don't play the Eagles till about 1/2 way through the season.

Riggo44 09-13-2004 08:37 PM

I give them an A all the way. I love the way our O-line looked. :dallas:

azskinsfan2 09-13-2004 09:18 PM

I also gave them an A but there is room for improvement. We definitely should have challenged on Brunnell's run. I read somewhere that we hired a replay official to advise Joe G on that stuff. Where was he????? It also seemed like any time we had a third and long, instead of just trying to get the first, we threw the bomb (all incomplete) why not just go for the first once in a while??
O-line was great, defense was great!!! Let's keep it up next week and definitely week 3!!!!

SkinsRock 09-14-2004 01:34 PM

I gave them an "A", but it's more of an "A-" because of special teams and not challenging the Brunnell run spot.....or even going for it on 4th down there. Yeah, I know it would be way out of character for Gibbs, but with less than 1 yd for the 1st down and 3 for the TD, it wouldn't have been that tough...and considering the way the D was playing, THEY might have scored if we didn't make it....or at least given the O great field position for the next drive. Oh well....we won anyway!!!

Gmanc711 09-14-2004 01:47 PM

I give them a A+ for Defense and B+ for offense and a C- for Special teams. Overall we were well prepared though and got the W so who cares. I agree about challenging Brunells spot, you HAVE to challenge that. I think we will find out how good we are this week against NYG. The Giants are a team we should beat, no excuses. THey will be hungry and prepared though, and if were not they will win. As long as we are prepared this week, which with Gibbs i'm confident we will be, we should win.

Its just nice to have good coaching again.

monk81 09-14-2004 09:22 PM

They get an A- from me........the minus is for coverage on special teams..........

Redskinsfaninnola 09-16-2004 12:21 PM

:dallas: Conservative? NOT !! That is Gibbs Football. Get used to it. Gave them an A. :dallas:
