Official Lost Season 5 Thread (Warning: Possible Spoilers)

Let the discussion commence!

Re: Official Lost Season 5 Thread (Warning: Possible Spoilers)

I am waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy too excited for this. I loved last season and I hope that #5 keeps that momentum goin.
I can't wait to find out how Locke goes from the leader of the island to a dead guy in LA (if you missed the end of season 4 remember that the thread title does warn of spoilers).

My new little theory is that Widmore was the captain of the Black Rock way back when and either Richard Alpert was the first mate who stole the ledger, which was then purchased by Widmore in the 1990's. I don't know what that would mean to the overall plot but it would be pretty interesting.
Also, this just came to me: could those two dead people in the cave back in season one be Faraday and Charolette?

SO...MUCH...STUFF to consider. I am so stoked. I am very worried that we'll be left with a lot of hanging ends at the of 6 seasons. Like the two dead people AMD mentioned.

It's gonna be a lost extravaganza tonight. I'm glad they are doing the recap show prior to the new episode. I've never missed an episode, but I definitely need a refresh.

HA, the guy who plays, rather played, Neil was my high school graduation speaker. His name is Sean Whalen and he graduated from there in the 80's.

Yeah what the hell was the point of his character. TPTB never introduce characters for no reason. It was good tonight but it was totally a setup show. Not a single thing really answered.

That. Was. AWESOME! Did you watch the pregame show with Lindeldofenfoder (whatever his name is)? He and the other guy were saying that this season would have a lot of action in it, and the first episode did not fail to deliver! I am pretty stoked about the last two seasons.

BTW, was that Faraday's mom that Ben was talking to near the end ("you have 70 hours")?

That was the owner of the jewelry store that Desmond visited when he was flashing back and forth in time after the hatch explosion in season 3 I believe. She is a key obviously in all of this because the whole time shfiting thing is clearly tied to her in some way and the island time shifting is going to be the main point of this whole show it looks like.

She was the one who told him he couldn't propose to Penny or something like that, right?
She was the one who told him he couldn't propose to Penny or something like that, right?
I think the main thing she told him was that you couldn't change the future because time has a way of correcting everything. I believe "course correction" was the phrase she used.

I think so...i guess the whole "you can't do it if it nevers happens" deal applies there. I hope they explore that notion and explain it well because it make no sense to me. Based on that notion, which Farraday was clear on, how in the heck was he able to talk to Desmond? It never happened so it couldn't. But it did then happen. Farraday must be from a different time or something so the rules on the island don't apply to him in the same fashion. My head hurts now. Anyways, what happens to Sawyer if Desmond answers the door? Or can it simply "NOT HAPPEN"? Like the universe will not allow it? Even though Desmond heard Sawyer banging on the door did the universe prevent Desmond from answering it? WTF?

Remember, back on the boat with Penny Desmond said that it wasn't a dream but more like a memory.
It seems like some people, like Desmond, Farrady, the old woman, and possibly Richard Alpert are sort of immune to the effects of time skipping.

I don't think so. Faraday didn't really care about getting into the hatch until he saw Lewis's nose bleeding, which is the first symptom of whatever disease killed Fisher Stevens (I forget his name on the show - Mac?). After that, he looked up something in his journal, and then decided to get into the hatch.

I just wonder what was different about Sawyer baging on the hatch and Faraday banging on the hatch? Was he bluffing Sawyer? Why would Desmond answer Faraday's knocking and not Sawyer's? I'm thinking Faraday was in fact bullshitting Sawyer, because when Desmond asnwered, he demanded to know why he had been banging on the hatch for "the past half an hour."

Good point. Maybe Faraday forgot about the "Desmond is your constant" page in his journal. Unlikely, though, since he's supposed to be wicked smaht. Maybe you're right, though, that he didn't want Sawyer to know that Desmond is special.

Looks like Lewis is going to have to figure out her constant, or she's a goner as well. Faraday's infatuation with her is obvious, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Anyone else think of Jeff Bridges' character, Michael Faraday, in Arlington Road everytime they hear Faraday?

Re: Official Lost Season 5 Thread (Warning: Possible Spoilers)

Kinda surprised no one has posted about tonight's show yet.

It wasn't one of the better episodes- sort of one of those "set up" shows- as in next week is set up to be a lot more exciting than tonight. Interesting that Widmore funded for Faraday's time travel research for 10 years.

By Locke's mention of Jacob and Alpert's reaction, I guess Jacob has been a factor for a long time.

For sure. But for some reason I wasn't as glued to the TV as I usually am.

Another interesting piece was when Alpert told Locke "we specifically choose our leaders at a young age," and Locke immediately gives him his birthdate (2 years after that conversation). Remember a few seasons ago when Alpert shows up at Locke's house when he's a young kid...

I need a quick recap of what's happened so far this season.

Let me just tell you all, the most difficult adjustment to married life is trying to watch Lost. Holy crap! Last night, during Lost my wife is freaking washing dishes and vaccuming (sp?), which she never does. And last week I had to take her out to dinner for the first hour because she was feeling down.

Anyone else catch the name that The Others called the little blonde chick with the rifle? They called her "Ellie" .... as in Eloise. As in, I bet that's a younger version of Faraday's mother/the woman who Ben met with at the end of last weeks episode.

Also, Faraday said that they needed to bury the bomb in concrete to make it safe. So, could that be wants on the other side of the concrete wall back in the hatch in season 2? Maybe the incident that the guy in the orientation video was talking about was the bomb going off, but the force was contained so long as some of the pressure could be released every 108 minutes.

Seriously, I think I could watch that one 10 more times today.

Huh, I must have just been a little off yesterday. I've seen every episode and just wasn't that thrilled last night for some reason.

Great catch with the Ellie/Eloise = young Faraday's mother. I probably could have watched that episode a few times without picking up on that one.

I'm pretty sure you can watch past episodes in full on ABC.com. I noticed they have a "full episode player" on the website, but I've never used it.

The pop bar said that the old woman's name is Eloise Hawkings, which pretty much confirmed in my mind that she's Faraday's mother, whom he named a rat after.
So it was fresh in my mind for the new episode.

Oh, gotcha. Those replays with the info pop-ups are money. There is so much stuff going on in that show. I find myself rewinding scenes multiple times on the TiVO while I'm watching every episode.

I thought they revealed that last episode when he and his "Other" buddies attacked Sawyer and watsername in the jungle? Maybe I just assumed, since they called him Charles for no reason.

That's an interesting piece. The year they were in last night on the island was 1954, which was pre-Vatican II. Prior to that ecumenical council, Latin was taught much more commonly since it was the primary language in all Catholic masses. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Charlotte also referred to it as the "language of the enlightened."

Re: Official Lost Season 5 Thread (Warning: Possible Spoilers)

I was just going to bring up this thread yesterday. I really don't know how I feel about this season. There have been episodes that I've loved but there has also been a ton of stuff that's just frustrated the hell out of me.

The time travel thing is interesting but can obviously be very confusing. One thing that I don't like is that with the exception of Desmond in the 3rd season the whole idea of traveling through time and changing the past just sort of popped up last season. I still feel like there are so many unanswered questions from seasons 1 & 2 that will barely be resolved by the time the show is completely done because of all the new stuff.
The fact that there are so many characters who are so spread out (by location and time) can be a little annoying because it means we don't hear anything from certain characters for weeks at a time.

This season has caused me to stop trying to come up with theories about the nature of the island and the reason their all there, and that kind of sucks because I think that was one of the biggest draws to the show for the first couple of seasons. I know the writers have said that they knew where the show was going from the beginning, but I really don't believe that. I mean, the first season sort of set it up like Walt and Claire's then unborn baby would be completely intergal to the plot but now they're basically gone. At the same time, Ben was only supposed to be around for a couple of episodes but now he's one of the most important characters.

Sorry for rambling. I still am totally obessed with the show and it seems like none of my friends or coworkers watch it anymore so I hardly get to yap about it.
