Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
I havent spent alot of time looking at this, but here is his draft history, from nfl.com:
NFL Draft History: Full Draft - by Team
2008 1 20 Aqib Talib CB Kansas 2 58 Dexter Jackson WR Appalachian State 3 83 Jeremy Zuttah G Rutgers 4 115 Dre Moore DT Maryland 5 160 Josh Johnson QB San Diego 6 175 Geno Hayes OLB Florida State 7 238 Cory Boyd RB South Carolina 2007 1 4 Gaines Adams DE Clemson 2 35 Arron Sears G Tennessee 2 64 Sabby Piscitelli SAF Oregon State 3 68 Quincy Black LB New Mexico 4 106 Tanard Jackson FS Syracuse 5 141 Greg Peterson DT North Carolina Central 6 182 Adam Hayward LB Portland State 7 214 Chris Denman T Fresno State 7 245 Marcus Hamilton CB Virginia 7 246 Kenneth Darby RB Alabama 2006 1 23 Davin Joseph G Oklahoma 2 59 Jeremy Trueblood T Boston College 3 90 Maurice Stovall WR Notre Dame 4 122 Alan Zemaitis CB Penn State 5 156 Julian Jenkins DE Stanford 6 194 Bruce Gradkowski QB Toledo 6 202 T.J. (Tampa Bay did not have their 2004 1st and 2nd rounders because the team had previously traded picks to Oakland to acquire Gruden.) |

That's basically my point. Who's to say this guy would be any better?? He's only been a GM in the NFL since 2004. |

Yea but arn't you at the point where you just want anyone new? If not why? We have had 10+ years of subpar football and we have tried replacing everyone else but him? Maybe it's not all his fault but isn't it worth a shot? |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
why would we want him?
That's what I'm trying to figure out. His drafts in TB were pretty unremarkable. If the answer is because he's not Vinny, that's not really a great reason to me to go after him. |

Yeah, pro or con he is a Buccaneer castoff. So they must of rid themselves of him for some reason. I would like to know more about him though before I start wholesale endorsing. I do like the fact that he isn't yet neutered by Danny. He still has his balls until he signs a contract. If somehow he can keep his balls away from Snyder he'll be a good hire. |

He's been tied to Gruden's hip since he's been in the business.
I think he's the model for finding talented veterans that no one else wants, but I wouldn't give him total control of my football team. This rumor seems to make way too much sense to be true. I think it's fabricated. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
I highly doubt that he would be coming in to replace Cerrato. If anything I could see him come in as an assitant to Cerrato, but why would he want to do that?

Anyone? No, I wouldn't seek out change just for the sake of change. If we bring someone in let's bring in someone with a proven background. Not some schlub who we'll end up replacing in a few years. That makes no sense to me at all. |

Bruce Allen is irrelivent really...I am excited at the possibility of there being a thought in Snyders head that maybe quite possibly my front office needs a new voice. If that thought is in his head then that alone is a victory and I couldn't care less if he actually hires Allen, because I will at least know the seed is planted. |

It could be a matter of loyalty - Gruden lobbied for Allen to be brought in to Tampa Bay. Allen may have fought too hard to keep Gruden as the HC and because he didnt want to fire Gruden and the owner did, they were both gone. Thats pure speculation though. The main attraction of Allen over Cerrato is: 1) He doesnt trade away draft picks. 2) He's not Dannys personal whipping boy 3) The fact that he's not Cerrato gives us leverage in hiring a HC to replace Zorn at some point - its been reported that Cerrato isnt well liked and its been implied that the reason Spags didnt take the job here last year was not wanting to work with Cerrato. |

Because he has limited GM experience and there's probably not a lot of teams pounding down his door. |

I am in favor of a Redskins GM being hired or fired based on his production and nothing more. I honestly do not think we have that now. Hopefully, in the future Snyder will stick to a professional relationship only with his front office employees. |

True, but you could also make the case that Cerrato has limited GM experience as well. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?

To my knowledge, theres only one GM opening in the NFL right now and thats in Cleaveland and theyve already got their candidate lined up. If his only option at this point is to take an assistant position, then it would stand to reason he would be interested in working for the team his father used to coach. This job is also attractive because its been rumored that this could be Cerratos last year being involved in football operations, so there is the potential for quick career advancement. |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
Another thought - If Allen came here in any capacity, it increases the likelyhood that John Gruden could land here - perhaps as the OC.
I'm not a huge Gruden fan, but he's certainly an upgrade over Sherman Smith. If theres one thing this offense needs, its fire. Grudens the type of guy who could definitely get guys fired up. |

Id wait till next year, then chase Holgrem if Cerrato doesn't impress this year. |

Good points. I could see this happening. I think Vinny is gradually being phased out rather than immediately pushed due to his friendship with Danny. Scott Campbell's increased role last offseason, the rumor that this is Cerrato's last year in FB ops, and now this... |

Zorn has already started molding him. Sherman Smith and Zorn are also very close friends. I don't see Smith getting fired. I have a feeling adding Gruden to our staff would complicate more than help. |

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
OK how many of you on the Gruden thread talked about how much he did with the lack of talent he had? If that was you then why would you want BA the man who was in charge of finding that lack of talent for the Buc's.?

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
1. I always thought Gruden and Allen were really close but I've learned recently that they may not have been the case. They actually clashed a lot
2. This isn't the first time Bruce Allen has been rumored to be available and not the first time he's been rumored to be "coming home to the Redskins" 3. Just a couple of days ago, PFT was speculating Allen for NFLPA Executive Director. So what's next...Warpath Mod? 4. Bruce Allen's most obvious skill is his mastery of contracts and the salary cap...but we already have Eric Schaeffer for that 5. I increasingly get the feelings that, Allen or not, Scott Campbell is going to be a fall guy here even though they gave him more responsibilities last year 6. Bringing Allen in doesn't mean letting Cerrato go necessarily 7. Going back to point 5, plus Campbell's noted passion for college scouting and Allen's work with pro contracts, I suppose I could theoretically see a scenario where Campbell is Director of College Scouting (or whatever title you want to give him) and Allen is Director of Pro Personnel. But then what about Mo Brown? Does he jump over Campbell as Campbell did to Riddick and become Director of Player Personnel? |
Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
So....first of all, this is a PFT Rumor....so I'm not going to get riled up about it until I hear it somewhere else (I checked ESPN rumors, and didn't see anything). I guess it'd make sense for Allen to come in as some sort of assistant to Vinny...unless Snyder wants Vinny to move on to other things right away.
Now Allen is no Pioli (although Patriots fans would tell you that Pioli did everything through Darth Hoody, so he's not that great), but I think a new voice in the front office would not be a bad thing. |

That's the least I can do. I at least had the decency to head the title of thread "Rumor:". Although as far out in left field as this article is it should have been "Wildly Outrageous Rumor:" |

Re: RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?
to me this all comes down to the danny's growth as an owner & willingness to let go/admit mistakes. i.e.if Allen were hired & given the title 'GM' many people would say it's about time we got a GM.
However, if he doesn't have full authority over personel, which I question whether Vinny truly does, we've got the same issues. Having said that, a hiring of Allen & letting go of Vinny might be a sign of major positive change by the Danny. But simply hiring another guy w/some name recognition does not convince me that true change is underway. |
