I got the Blue one. The dealer said I would get about 80 miles to the gallon but I'm getting about 70. It has a top speed of 35mph.

I drive it back and forth from work (9.9 miles). The best part about it is in MD you don't need to tag it or insure it, and you don't even need a motorcyle license. All you need is a valid drivers license of any class. If I drive it to work 400 times It will have paid for itself in gas savings. Anybody else have one?

Even though the state doesn't require it, I'd definitely recommend getting some liability insurance on that guy just to cover yourself in case anything ever happens. Wouldn't be expensive, I don't think.

No offense but I hate these things. They zip all around MD nearly causing accidents. I think if yo uare using the roads you should pay for them through registration and what not.

I saw one at Royal Farms slam into a SUV last summer. I am assuming the guy was not insured, I am sure whatever he paid to repair that SUV eat up his gas savings.

Plus I live in the country. I pass maybe 3 cars on the way to work and there is a bike lane on the road for 75% of my trip. In the Evenings there is more traffic but again, I have a bike lane until I get to a back road.

And I do pay for the roads with my taxes and what not.

touchy touchy, geez. I was speaking in general.

Problem is a bunch of punks in the B-more area buy these things and fly all around the place (sidewalks include) and they are or going to damage property or hurt someone.

Plus, is it not illegal to use a motorized vechicale on a bike path?

Anyway, the MVA told me I should use a shoulder if ther is one available.

Nice....10 miles is long distance for a scooter. The back roads are just as dangerous as the highway, do take a safety course if you haven't already.

My wife bought one last year. We live about 2 miles from her work and she never has to get on the street....loves it
She wears a helmet as well. that was the deal.......

This isn't a big issue in the rest of the world because they just have much smaller cars, seems like the US will move in that direction slowly. At least in the major cities.

Bikers have a saying. "The only bikers who haven't laid a bike down are new bikers or liars."

Scooters certainly are more stable but I promise you will put it down at some point if you plan on riding it as much as you say.

Totally true, and you either have or you will.
Not to be pointed, but Scoots are actually much less stable than a full sized machine as the little wheels start to get squirrely about 40/45+. They also start to feel real top heavy as well at speed.

Oh I agree. It's just getting non-riders to understand the physics of bikes is a no-win situation. I'd ride of those little scooters on vacay in Puerta Villarta but in real life I ride my V-Star when I am trying to save on gas, and it's not too cold.

Point of advise: Don't try to get cute and do jumps on a scooter like I did in Bermuda a few years back. I ended up going head first over the handlebars (after standing the thing on only the front tire for a good .05 seconds). Luckily it was on grass so I was fine, but it sure freaked me out.

HAHA! I did think about that, but I'll save between $400-500 this year. Thats even if prices don't go up. Lets say gas goes back up to $4.00 a gallon. I dont care about looking like a dork, thats some serious coin.

The biggest reason is my wife and I only have 1 other vehicle. Its a Van and it gets horrible mileage. We needed a second vehicle so she wasn't stuck home with the kids and not have a way to go out. Our finances right now wouldn't allow for another car payment or even insurance to be able to drive it. This was the cheapest, and IMO best option.

Right now it is unseasonably warm around (65-70). Typically, it is much colder this time of year. We are expecting the temperature to drop and possibly get some snow come Wednesday.

Go figure, Vegas got a Blizzard, we got flurries.

Even though they don't require you to carry insurance its like $100 to $180 per year unless you have a bad driving record. Even though the state does not require insurance you are still liable for any accident you may cause. In most states if found liable they can take somewhere up to 18% of your income until you have paid back the money you may owe to someone for causing an accident. The scooter itself cannot do much damage but causing another car to run off the road or into another car could get very expensive so get some insurance.

i bought my first motorcycle last year. she's a nasty hog. 700CC and ugly as they come but she's fast and reliable.

For the record, I may not give you a 'biker's wave' if I saw you on that and anyone else were around... and I get snubbed a lot on my [B]piece[/B], so I know how that feels lol..

Anyway, I considered the scooter option for the mileage, and would've bought one for my old 6 mile each way commute in town, but they seemed too dangerous. I like the idea that I can get out of the way quickly if I need to, and I am on a highway briefly with many large trucks which will shake a smaller bike with their wind blasts.

I live right outside houston in cypress,I commute everyday to kingwood,80 miles round trip,thats why i considered a scooter but ended up getting a used yamaha v-star classic,and yes it is dangerous,been almost taken out a couple times,people on their damn cell phones
