So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
another small scatback type, was on Denver's roster last year but tore a ligament in his foot before the season started, went to college of U of Houston
looks like we're bringing in a few guys to compete for the returner spot and possibly a change of pace back if that works out we claimed him off of waivers, the vikes also were looking to get him but we got him because we had the lower record last year measurables: 5.9" 175 4.38 40 yd dash out of college, not sure what he'd be at now, after the foot injury and all draft profile from last year: [URL="http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2008/draft/players/6115.html"]SI.com - 2008 NFL Draft - Anthony Alridge[/URL] apparently not good after contact (to be expected) but is shifty and elusive and can also play slot receiver [URL="http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2009/feb/12/broncos-release-shaw-sign-former-csu-player/?partner=RSS"]Broncos release Shaw, sign former CU player : Broncos : The Rocky Mountain News[/URL] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXQrNJhqhRs[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5duOATfuKQ[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOkLuTtckKs[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPW61dJaFi4[/ame] Looks like we're trying to find our Sproles in the rough or at least a Rock/ARE return replacement. Sorry if it seems like I'm hyping him up, don't get too excited yet guys. |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
He's definitely worth checking out. Fast as lightning and can break one at any time. Why not?

Exactly, never hurts to start camp with him. |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
My last name is the same as his, so naturally I'm hoping he'll turn into a big superstar and they'll start selling jerseys of his so I can buy one.
|
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
i say either him or the other guy from the CFL league make the roster. Thats how bad we need a change of pace back and a guy that can take it to the house at any moment other than tana.

Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I definitely think we're looking for return men. ARE won't be returning punts this year.

Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I can see Aldridge taking a screen or a short pass and turning it into 6 for us. The more I watch him, the faster he looks. I could see him being a threat in our offense. He's got some moves. A little space and he's GONE!

Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I'd love to have a Sproles type player. (Sproles himself). I just don't want another Trung Canidate.

I'm quietly optimistic about how our FO is approaching the offseason, now for the cuts... and the draft ....:goodjob: |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
Every time we get a player like this, I think why would they let him go if he was any good. Then I think of players like Chris Clemons, Antonio Pierce and Ryan Clark and think sometimes teams make mistakes. Then I realize, I cant think of any non Redskins like that and get depressed again.

If this helps...John Lynch..Kris Jenkins..Shawn Rogers..Kurt Warner, to name a few. Even James Harris was cut 3 times by the Steelers and once by the Ravens and became the defensive MVP this year. |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I did read the Vikes liked him, but we're in the middle of the road as far as the waiver order, so several teams passed on him as well.
His YouTube highlights are fun to watch, but he's basically a rookie having not played a down in the NFL, and he's coming off a serious foot injury. I would thrilled if he pans out, but I'm on "wait and see" mode with guys like this. I'm not having pipe dreams of Darren Sproles part 2. |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I'll take a wait and see approach. Lets see if he can make it to training camp.

If he's a candidate to replace ARE on punt returns, we need to know how fast he can run backwards. But seriously, I'm glad that we're trying to find an explosive return man. |

Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
As long as he saves us a draft pick then I'm good.
|
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I think this means if one of these guys does pan out rock is gone.
|
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I really like El, but the later running on returns drives me nuts.
Lets give this kid a shot and see what he can do. |

Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I'm not sure why everyone is so tied up on him just being punt returner. Maybe it's just me but it seems like we wouldn't mind having a new KR too.
I love having Rock as much as the next guy and I'm not sure where everybody says that his vision comes from... maybe his vision is good but his elusiveness is not.. and he doesn't break many tackles either, he does go in with a full head of steam and RARELY gives us a bad spot though, just rarely an amazing one. |

How 'bout Rock and this guy? |

Usually, but it's nearly always fielded by the main guy. |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
I like what we are trying to do here with getting players with explosive potential who can make an impact on special teams. I am tired of first Betts and now Rock running full speed in a straight line and slamming into a pile. If for some reason a crease is there our KR get walked down at about the 40. While I acknowledge Rock is good at getting field position, I attribute that to the blocking. The difference is that second burst available if a seam is there to take it to the house. We've been missing that spark for years!

How old is Mike Nelms now? |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
Why get a shorty though? Sure get a return guy at 5'9", but your return guy usually also is a #4 or #5 WR right? I know we are trying to get a guy on the cheap, but shouldn't we look at a taller guy that can also be a bona fide WR also?
|
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
He's fast. Just think of him as one of the smurfs Gus.

our top 2 receivers are 5'9" aldridge is known as having slot potential, where you find a lot of the shorter guys, and we should be finding ARE |

You never know, Ladell Betts could end up being trade bait for a lower round draft pick and Rock could become number 2. |

I've been thinking this myself. The question is will it bite us? He just got a new contract the year before last right? |
Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
Here's another guy who might be available in the 4th round who's a little bigger with 4.3 speed. He caught 60 passes last year in an offense that does'nt pass much and is good on teams. Jason Chery....[url=http://cdsdraft.com/profile.php?id=3363]Jason Chery, WR, UL-Lafayette[/url]

Re: So, let's discuss Anthony Aldridge, our newest signed player
If we can get our O-Line in order then Aldridge could very well end up looking like Derrick Blayock did for the Cheifs a few years ago. Of course we might be a year or two away from getting our line sorted out.

Thats a scary thought. I've haven't seen Rock make any headway in the rushing department during the last 3 preseasons and Mason was clearly the better the runner last year. |
