Boogie on!

Why does the article about the punter show him about to drop back to pass? Is he the next Tupa?

I saw that and got a laugh. Might be our new #2 QB as well! Or maybe.....

The cult of who...?

Re: Redskins sign Veteran Punter Dirk Johnson

Sounds good to me. My only concern is why this is his 5th team after only 7 years?
For his career, Johnson has 320 punts for a 41.7-yard average and a 35.9-yard net average. He has never had a punt blocked in his career.

Johnson also has experience serving as holder on field goal attempts.

Last year, Johnson was with the Cardinals and had 40 punts for a 41.8-yard average and 35.2-yard net average.
I still think we were too quick to cut Brooks.

Re: Redskins sign Veteran Punter Dirk Johnson

Looks like he consistently puts 1 out of every 4 punts inside the 20 and has 60-yard punt capability.

Big upgrade already.

He BETTER NOT wear #9 though.

Let's just issue him #1 like we do with most of our punters. :D

I agree, we should have put him on IR and kept him around to compete this camp.

While better than Zac Dingleberry his net is only 1.9 yards better than Plack and he is below Frost.

This is a bandaid but at least he isn't a nobody.

You know who is in line to replace Derrick Frost in G-Bay?

You guessed it, Durant Brooks. Durant Brooks Stats, News, Photos - Green Bay Packers - ESPN.

The circle of life.

They'll cut him too...just like they cut Frost. Then GB will probably pick up Plack after he's cut from the Bengals.

I hope they have someone else who can do their holding duties. Brooks' leg was good (until hip flexor injury), but his holding killed us several times.

No wonder Zorn and other teammates screamed at the kid so much on the sidelines.

I've always thought it was stupid for your punter to be your holder. Your backup QB is more equipped to handle the ball, more able to make a play in case of a breakdown. It just makes more sense.

He'd have to run 15 yards sideline to sideline before placing it down.

If Colt was the holder we would be unstoppable! UNLEASH THE GUNSLINGER!!! ha ha ha

I will say this about Colt, I will not miss one minute of the pre-season!

That's somewhat a high number of teams but not too uncommon with punters and kickers. Kickers are valued on their latest streak and will almost always get released for a cheaper alternative. Anythings better then Sir Ryan Shankalot.

Frost was like Chuck Cecil playing punter! I loved that he pulled his helmet off like Emmitt every chance that he got, too.

Re: Redskins sign Veteran Punter Dirk Johnson

First of all Hunter Smith is the best punter and i have no clue why we arent getting him instead, second of all according to the fan votes on the site they say punter is the least needed position to be addressed, but i disagree, because if the punter kicks the ball the wrong way off his shoe and it goes 10 yards, then were screwed...its all about were you want the opposing team with the ball to start from, their 20 our 30??

Ruhskins 03-05-2009 04:59 PM

Re: Redskins sign Veteran Punter Dirk Johnson

Anybody knows if we're addressing the kicking game? I mean Suish did suck it up big time last year kicking field goals.

Well we did get rid of Frost and Brooks so your ten yard theory is out the window!

Come on, they are looking to get the best Punter available for the right price. And certainly someone that can punt for more than 10 yards this guy didn't quit high school to be brought in.

We have to be smart about how much is spent on our Punter as important (unfortunately) as that part of the game is. We have other needs (OT, DE, LB) that need to be addressed, that far out way the current Punter situation.

We now have competition, let the best Punter win the job.

These punter signings remind me of the old George Foreman muffler commercial.

Re: Redskins sign Veteran Punter Dirk Johnson

I'm not sure about this move. His punting average last year (41.8) was a whole tenth of a yard better than Plackemeier (41.7).

Is this somehow and upgrade? In his 7 year career he's only averaged over 42yds/punt twice.

Re: Redskins sign Veteran Punter Dirk Johnson

well let's just hope he can kick a football similar to chuck norris' kicking babies in the face
