Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
My theory: He was being blackmailed by someone with information contained on the 3.5" disc, but turned the tables on his tormentors by stealing back the emabarrasing information and then mailing them this picture in which he taunts them with the evidence of his coup.
Any other thoughts? |
Re: Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
Judging by the assured smile he has, the confident manner he is holding the disc up, I believe he knows that the disk he is holding contains a program which, once viewed, will make him the fashion king of the world. (accomplished of course through subtle messages found in the simple repeating gif file on the disk)

How'd you get Gman's yearbook photo?

Re: Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
I like to think he's a sideshow freak who eats random objects. This picture is just the first of a whole photo series depicting non-edible objects that he will consume at this year's state fair.

What I can't figure out is how the sports equipment tie figures in to the whole thing. |

OOOOHHHHH!!! I didn't notice that before, but now I know who he is and what that disc is!!!! This douche bag invented the BCS system. That single disc controls the destiny of college football. |

On that disk is proof he lost his virginity. He was going to hold up the boyscouts body instead but it was too heavy.

that's the proof that Jon Stewart's outburst was caused by President Obama :)

I don't know. It sorta looks like "Hey! Look at what they just pulled out of my ass. I never thought the doctors would be able to help me walk again."

I don't know, but he said something like "It's for Matt"

Yeah. That was another theory I considered: This is the inventor of the photo-shopped celebrity nude and the disk contains his very first fake - "Dallas" star Charlene Tilton. |

Ha! "Million to one shot, Doc. Million to One." |
Re: Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
It's clearly some program he invented that made him enough money to buy those bad ass glasses, sweater vest, and tie.
Remember when it was awesome that a disk could hold 1.4MBs? Ha. |

Re: Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
Wow, about 5 years ago I saw that photo with the exact same question to debate.
:laughing- My theory: The contents of that disk, a program that took him years to complete...was the ticket to his success and the means to buy those snappy clothes. He's one of those nerds who end up ruling part of the world. 18 years later, the disk is found... |
Re: Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
So how long until we have a similar thread in regard to the CD and the DVD? Probably not long.
|
Re: Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
I don't know, that seems to be a somewhat more reliable media, although the storage capacity of a CD-ROM has become inadequate...but DVD-Rs are still a good option and now there are dual-layer DVDs with over 8 GB of space on them. They could hang around a bit longer than floppies did. They're still good for archival purposes as long as you use good quality discs that won't break down over 10-20 years like the cheap ones can.
Wow. Nerd Threads: Harcore geeks only need apply |

CD you could start today, I have an 07 4Runner and I have never once used the CD player in the 3 years I have owned it. Blu Ray will keep DVD's alive a little longer but with the advent of downloading and streaming it is only a matter of time. |

Re: Why is This Man Holding a Computer Disc?
That's surprising.
I am a computer geek I suppose, I build them and repair them...do things most people can't, but I have not fully left CDs behind for downloadable music. I like having the actual CD I can hold, the booklet, etc. Also, it's too easy to delete or lose music files as opposed to losing a tangible product you can hold. If I pay $15 for an album, I want something more than a file. While being technologically-advanced and up-to-date in most parts of my life, I'm old-fashioned I guess in other ways. That's one of them. Also, I hope I never see books replaced by e-books in my lifetime...and I believe there are enough people like me to keep the publishing industry afloat. I prefer old razors to new ones. I like building furniture whenever I can. I carry a pocket watch instead of looking for the time on a cellphone. When I'm able to, I want to get an old muscle car to restore. There is something enriching about holding onto some traditions, it keeps your life from being a bore from having everything electronic and existing only on your hard drive. In today's busy world, sometimes it is nice and beneficial to slow down. Newer doesn't always mean better to me. |

Oh one good thing about my CD player in my car is when you hit the eject button when no disk is inside it will first read on the display "NO" then "DISK". So if my wife ask me to go somewhere or do something I don't want to while in the car I hit the eject button and she see's "NO", LOL I think it is funny she hates it. |

Books and CDs to me are just clutter. Back when I had CDs I had this huge rack that took up nearly an entire wall in my room, now I just have my music on my computer, backed up to an external hard drive, and of course on the iPod itself. I also find myself reading a lot more since I got the iPad. I've got 3 books going at once right now. Newer doesn't equal better, just easier for certain things. Less things to lug around, no fumbling around in the car for a CD, etc. Again, it's just about what works for you. |
