Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
These rumors are getting stupid from all these "sources"! I would have to think there is zero merit to Cutler coming to DC.
CERRATO: “JASON CAMPBELL IS GOING TO BE OUR QUARTERBACK” Posted by Mike Florio on March 17, 2009, 9:07 p.m. The rumors of the Washington Redskins possibly trading for Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, fueled by a bleacherreport.com story setting forth a far-fetched three-team trade scenario that might or might not have been labeled ambiguously as “satire” before the predicted 5:00 p.m. EDT announcement of the deal, have already created a sufficient stir to require the Redskins to address them. In an item posted at 6:41 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, executive V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato told David Elfin of the Washington Times that the Redskins “haven’t talked to anyone” about Cutler, and that “Jason is going to be our quarterback this season.” We don’t want to pick nits here, but Cerrato didn’t say that the Redskins aren’t interested in Cutler, only that they “haven’t talked to anyone” about him. And when Cerrato says that “Jason is going to be our quarterback,” Cerrato omits the key words “starting” or “backup.” We’re kidding. Sort of. Here’s the deal — the Cutler fiasco has confirmed that teams need to handle their starting quarterbacks like a college football coach handles his current job. Neither can afford to allow word to get out that a change might be coming. If change is going to happen, it needs to come swiftly and without advance rumor or speculation. It’s the “I’m not going to be the Alabama coach” phenomenon; the Redskins would end up with the next disgruntled starting quarterback if credible word were to get out that the Redskins are thinking about making a change at the most important position on the roster. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Just watched the NFL Network and they all unanimously agree that if the phone rings to trade JC they answer it.
|
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Per your thread subject, I wasn't sure whether you were talking about Jason Campbell or Jay Cutler ;-)
|
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Glad to hear this from VC. Besides, I don't want that crybaby Cutler here anyway.
|
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Unfortunately Vinny saying this doesn't mean a damn thing. Vinny said we weren't interested in Haynesworth, too. GM's lie all the time. It's part of their job.
|
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Campbell hasn't been give much credit in my opinion. I still think he'll be a Pro Bowler. Let's see what happens after this year now that he'll have a second year to get comfortable in Zorn's system.
I don't want Cutler either. We'd probably overpay anyway like we did for CP. I thought Champ for CP was more than fair. Why'd we have to throw in a 2nd round pick? |

Campbell is on such a short leash though

Sure I guess they do stretch the truth but that's a case by case situation! But I disagree. I think Vinny is telling the truth and we will stick with JC. Are far as AH that was a smart move on Vinny's behalf, what do you expect him to show his hand and let all the league know we where gonna make a run at the guy, of course not. It was darn near common knowledge to begin with. |

I mean what kind of stupid GM would let that hit the press.(cough..cough... Denver) |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
I think it'd be ridiculous if Cutler is brought here. I think it'd be a heck of a gamble on VCs part. Basically if Cutler doesn't work out, VC would be gone. I just don't think any QB could come in and integrate himself into Zorn system's right away. This might be crazy but if we were to get Cutler and Denver's 2nd rounder for JC and next year's 2nd rounder or something like that this may work, although I don't know how much this would make sense.

If it was public knowledge that Skins were actively going after Cutler, it could a) create a bidding war with other teams who are interested and drive the price higher, and b) create dissension in our locker room. |

Cutler may appear to be a crybaby now but he would be open with open arms if we could bring him in.. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
If we traded Campbell to the Broncos, it wouldn't be a straight up trade.

Im sure Danny can squeeze a franchise QB under the salary cap. |

We would have to give our first and our third if we were lucky. Probably Campbell, our first this year and our first next year. I am willing to do either. |

Yes, a huge gamble... "VC would be all in", but that bet would pay off as soon as Cutler threw his 25th td! The kid has the moxy to manufacture plays, unlike JC.. |

Um...I don't think Campbell is the QB we have that Denver wants But if the option presented itself, he'd be the one we'd probably have to trade (though I don't think we want to do that either, not at the moment) |

Its a lot different. The SKINS where trying and did get AH at 12:01 or 3:00 or whatever on the am of FA. This is nothing more at this moment than a rumor that the SKINS have any interest in Cutler. I just watched/heard the comcast post game show after the CAPS game. And Vinny stated there is NO TRUTH OR TALKS of any kind about a trade for JC or Cooley, PERIOD Its just a rumor nothing more right now. |

My point is, if there were talks going on, Vinny wouldn't say a thing about it. He'd deny it just like he is now. I hope he's telling the truth, but just because he's saying we have no interest doesn't mean it's true. |

The Colt.......?
You'd be surprised, I'm surprised, at how many teams want The Colt. Everyone, well a lot of people, think they can make him a star if they could just spend a couple of years developing him. |

What do the redskins think of Colt. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Notice how vinny said Jason is our QB, and didn't say our starting QB...maybe colt is...no I wish, and am slightly joking, but cutler is a great QB wherever he goes, it won't be here this year, simply because zorn and Jason have a thing right now, and he is still learning our offense...and how do we not know that colt maybe be the next jay cutler..??

We should throw in Haynesworth too. I don't want the broncos to think that we are low balling them. |

I'm not surprised at all, not one single bit. Just for the record, I agree he will be developed and groomed under Zorn. And IMO he will be the next star/future QB to lead this team to where we want to be. |

Although I personally would be tempted to get Cutler, this offense sucks period. I think Jason is a really good QB, but shit can't really be a superstar or even a pro bowler with the crap he has to work with in our WR corp. This shit makes me think maybe Gus didn't have it so bad with Westbrook and Connell. Hell, I would even want Leslie Sheppard of '95 over most of our WRs. I guess my point is I don't think it is going to matter who is the qB this season. Unless Kelly and Thomas give us some bona fide production, even if it is not so big numberswise, our offense is going to suck like '08. CP can't carry the load forever for this team and he isn't getting any younger for all the punishment he is taking. Thank God they did get Haynesworth. If this guy produces, it should be good for 1-2 more turnovers a game. That might be all we need to get a few more Ws and get a wildcard next season. To me the Cutler/Campbell stuff is pointless unless the line and receivers step it up. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
Regarding the title of this thread, it would be correct if Jason Campbell is the QB or if Jay Cutler is the QB.
Should the Skins trade for Cutler? No. Would the Skins trade for Cutler if they had the opportunity to do so? Probably. If Jay Cutler has such a thin skin that he wants out after his new coach entertained the possibility of trading him, imagine how he will react to the warm and fuzzy environs in DC when he botches his first game. \ The Broncos should trade him to the Lions and let him get hammered for the rest of his contract there. |
Re: Per Vinny Cerrato, JC is our QB this season!
This is unconfirmed.
However, an inside source says a trade will bring Jay Cutler to Washington is almost complete. The leak came roughly about one hour ago. Negotiations between Cutler’s agent, Pat Bowlen, Daniel Snyder, and the Cleveland Browns management have been ongoing for a few days and all sides seem to be happy. The deal would see Jay Cutler, Tony Scheffler, and Cleveland’s third round pick going to Washington. Jason Campbell and Chris Cooley going to Cleveland and one of Denver’s fifth round picks. Brady Quinn going from Cleveland to Denver, and LaRon Landry from Washington will be going to Denver. We thought that the Bailey-Portis trade was big. "ProFootballTalk.com" |
