Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2009 Version
Did a thread like this last year and I think it turned out pretty well so we'll see how it goes this year. Players are listed in no particular order. Please report any other pre-draft visits you find. After which I'll post them here on the opening post.

Thanks for the update Smootsmack. In the meantime is there any truth to the rumors that Matthews and Cushing tested positive steroids at the combine.

Always thought Cushing had the "HGH" jaw, kinda like Tito Ortiz who was rumored to have taken HGH. Anyway great thread. |

I'm w/ you thinking Rey will have one of the best careers from this year's draft, but i doubt he's high on our list. |

Clay Matthews-LB Jeff Allen-DB Greg Toler-DB Rashad Jennings-RB
Greg Toler (washingtonpost.com) is kind of a cool story. My buddy who trains for the Redskins has also been working with a group of trainers helping college players during the pre-draft stuff, and Vontae Davis and Toler are a few of their clients. According to my guy, Toler is every bit the athlete Davis is, and faster. |

Sources. The only one I can trust for now without citing a source is Smootsmack. However looking at this list it's a little to long and it might clutter the thread so I'll just post the link in the opening post while posting the players of interest.
Think we forgot to mention Andre Smith
With that said do you have any more intel on this one. Did they fly down to meet him or did he come to them? |

I can't remember right now quite honestly. The meeting hasn't happened yet, it's coming up. |

Might have been mentioned already but Tim Jamison DE-Michigan
|
Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2009 Version
I'm not sure if any visit has been planned or happened but Oklahoma S/LB Nic Harris is someone I know they had some interest in a while back.
Also, Cody Brown (UConn LB) |
Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2009 Version
Most of LBs they have brought in, seems like they are projected to be draft later than 1st round?

Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. Local talent from U of R, can play outside linebacker, and will probably still be around in the third round.... just in case we go out and get a tackle in the first. Looks pretty talented, and could at least provide depth |

Thanks for the update Goat. I hope they're just playing it close to vest, like last year when no one was aware that they were going to draft J Mayo. We didn't get him but I would love to get Rey. |

Jarron Gilbertis coming in to visit soon

Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2009 Version
Man I'm getting old. One of my former high school teammates has his profile up and is elgible for the draft this year. Before him the best player to come out of our school was Charlie Whitehurst (3rd string QB for the Chargers). Just to be clear though he's not visiting, though maybe he could help us out at Guard ;)

(Sorry, couldn't resist. Not every day you can say your alma mater was the national champs at something.)
That is cool...was a clinic put on by the Spriders and Sidbury is just amazing. I doubt he falls to us in the 3rd round though...2nd round pick more likely so we'll miss out. |

It would seem almost impossible to pass on Raji @ 13, even if Oher, Rey or A. Smith were also available. I mean some boards out there have Raji as the 2nd highest rated player in the draft and he's top 5 almost across the board...but yeah w/ the drug thing he could fall and we'd walk away w/ the new Sapp :) ...btw in this scenario SmootSmack how likely is it the FO could pull some quick work and package Kedric w/ a later round pick to get us a 2nd rounder (since we'd be so overstocked at DT)? |
Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2009 Version
I think the drug accusation was proven false
to your second question, I don't know |

Raji is disputing the allegation: Raji's representatives dispute failed test - NFL - Yahoo! Re: Redskins Pre-Draft Visits and Private Workouts: 2009 Version
His agents sure took their sweet ass time coming out to refute this allegation...a little odd IMO. Personally, i've not problem w/ this but if it causes him to fall to us it'd put a smile on my face.

Yep he's a second rounder who isn't that productive but the scouts love his workouts combines and his intangibles so I don't care if we get him, probably prefer we didn't though |

In light of all of the MLB scandals they probably wanted to get their ducks in a row in case they had to prove something with tangible evidence. |

Ok I'll be honest...during the highlights reel there I started to hyperventilate over Rey. Seriously, after Curry i honestly believe he's is the best talent at LB this draft and won't be surprised if he has a more successful career in the end. Note to the naysayers...don't try and tell me Rey isn't an immediate upgrade at OLB for us (for the next two years until he becomes our monster in the middle). Let me get this straight, a lot of us r "ok" w/ Blades starting at OLB but somehow Rey is a no-go. Really? ...fellas, this isn't the crown & coke talking...Rey is the real deal. At 13 the only players I'd take over him are A. Smith or BJ Raji (who could possibly fall to us). |

The O needs to get upgraded and for that to happen we need to make sure that Campbell has time to throw. Now maybe this turns out like 2004 (with a happier ending) in that we get the better player in the first and then find an absolute diamond in the rough during the third round and if thats so then fine but getting a RT that can start is crucial and they're rarely available in the 3rd . In fact getting a guy that can play LT and RT might be even more important should god forbid Samuals go down again. I know Vinny is high on Rey but from the interviews I've seen with him and what I've heard it seems like he's higher on Andre Smith. |
