i dont like this one bit. Cutler is one thing, Leftwich is another |
re: Q.B. competition?
Why???????
|
re: Q.B. competition?
I guess that would mean the end of Collins, and in that sense he would be an upgrade. But I can think of a handful of teams where Leftwich would be a legit starter. I don't really get this.
Plus, as SS pointed out, lots of people inside the organization are really high on Colt. So I'm confused here. |
re: Q.B. competition?
Collins is in trouble. He's clearly not competition for Campbell's job.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
this makes no sense. he is not a west coast system qb, his release is not quick he is so slow in delevering the ball and is not very mobile. when played played last year it was behind the steelers o-line.our o-line is horrible u need to be able move a little bit to play behind them.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
Nothing to see here move along.

Actually, the Steelers O-line was worse than ours as far as pass protection. That was their one real weak spot as a team last year. |
re: Q.B. competition?
Just another week for the Danny. BL wants to start. It's clear that JC will not be our starter this year.

What are you on about? JC is the starter. |
re: Q.B. competition?
WTF! Did i miss something...when did the FO decide QB was such an issue for us? It's like something happened all the sudden and Danny/Vinny whoever became hellbent on changing things around.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
I thought JC would start as well. But about 72 hours ago he was going to start in Denver. After reading the Wilbon articals Im wondering if Zorn even knows who's gonna start. I do know BL would like to come home to D.C. and start.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
Leftwich would only slide into the number 2 role. BL's contract will be cheaper then what Collins is getting paid so we will gain some cap room. Plus Leftwich is a known diehard redskin fan. No Biggie.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
Even Mike Florio, who as we know despises our team, is saying that this would be for the #2 spot. What I don't understand here is why would Leftwich want to come here, when he could be a starter with the Jets or Bucs? I do think this means good-bye Collins, do we save any money if we cut him?
|
re: Q.B. competition?
I have it figured out. Vinnie and Danny made a $1 bet that JC could act like Jay Cutler. LOL
|
re: Q.B. competition?
Man. It's gotten to the point we can't even look at anyone without freaking out. He's probably better than Collins and worth taking a LOOK at. I believe he's from this area and he's younger than Collins. He could probably run the show better than Collins if Campbell went down. I don't think Zorn believes Colt is ready just yet and probably needs another year. The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

If he could have been a starter there don't you think he would of taken any offer available? |

Really. |
re: Q.B. competition?
He's cheaper and younger than Collins and he has more experience than Colt. Plus he grew up in the area as a Skins fan. No biggie.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
I don't necessarily think that Leftwich would be an upgrade over Todd Collins for the #2 spot. I'd be surprised if this deal got done, unless we could save significant cap space by releasing Collins (which I'm pretty sure isn't the case).
|
re: Q.B. competition?
For those JC bashers; there will NOT be any QB competition if Leftwich signs with Redskins as he would be coming in as #2..

re: Q.B. competition?
Well he proved last year he can come into middle of a close game and pull out a win. Clearly coming in as a #2, i got np with that.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
I first thought this thread was going to be a troll. However as long as they make it clear that Leftwich is here as a backup and not as someone who's competing for a starting job then it should at least be interesting.

RI and the Pittsburgh Post both said BL for the No.#2 spot. I have no problem with Leftwich. He has more starts than JC, and has a cannon for an arm. Pro Football Today exagerates in it's article, however. |
re: Q.B. competition?
I have no problem with this. I actually kind of like Leftwitch, he's coming in as the #2... and as much as I like Collins for the miracle 2007 run, I really don't think he's that good. I think he thrived because of Saunders system that year.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
I figured he'd end up a lower-tier starter, but he's been on the market a while without much interest, so I guess not. If he's content to be a backup, fine with me. He's 8 years younger than Collins.
I bet Jax regrets cutting ties with him after Garrard's performance last year. |
re: Q.B. competition?
this is the redskins here...we will cut colt! He is the new Tim Hassleback
|
re: Q.B. competition?
If there was even a hint of Leftwich being a #1, Florio would have been on it like flies to shit. And as far as my comment earlier regarding the Jets or Bucs, well maybe those teams would have approached Leftwich already. Oh well, moving on.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
Leftwich looked really good when he lit us up last year but I don't think he is a good fit for the WCO. I think we should go after Jeff Garcia IMO.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
I wouldn't mind signing him for a reasonable price, but I agree with most of you, it's silly to think Leftwich could do a better job than JC at the WCO so why sign him to be a #2?

The steelers line was terrible why do you think leftwich even played, cause we knocked bigben out. If we would've stayed healthy our line played very well that's why Portis lead the league most of the season, until injury put an end to all that. |
re: Q.B. competition?
Insurance policy in case JC falters. Nothing more.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
Brennan is unproven, and Collins is not a starter and will not be competing to be one. With Campbell in his contract year and Leftwich wanting the starting job, he will serve as a catalyst to JC. Not only does he need to have a great year to receive a longterm contract, but he needs to have a great game every game to remain the starter. Insurance, and a catalyst. That is it. There will be no Leftwich era in the D.C. area I can pretty much guarantee it.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
Slow release? Zorn can fix that up in a jiffy. Collins is a Saunders Coryell guy, not a WCO guy. He may not have anywhere else to go besides Pittsburgh or here anyway.
|
re: Q.B. competition?
No matter what he was told, it'd be hard to think he wouldn't at least get a shot to compete for the starting role.
Still, I say we go with what we have. |

I'm just sayin JC might not have everyone's support, that's it. After last week how can you not agree. Cutler IMO is no better than JC, so why the change? |
re: Q.B. competition?
Unlike Jay Cutler, Byron Leftwich is a guy who could play really, really well when we need him, without costing us an obscene amount of draft picks.
Plus, at age 29, he's not really a threat to Campbell as the future of the franchise, at least, not in the way that Snyder's ego is. Right now, if Collins ever has to play for us, at his age, we're in deep trouble. Leftwich could hold down the fort if necessary. So I like a potential move from that perspective. I don't like the timing of this, given that the last thing we need to do right now is anything to make Campbell feel like his job is being challenged. We could have done this last month. |

What I don't understand here is why would Leftwich want to come here, when he could be a starter with the Jets or Bucs? I do think this means good-bye Collins, do we save any money if we cut him?
The problem at Leftwich at this point is that he's not young enough to make teams want to push their young QBs to the bench in order to sign him. He's absolutely good enough to play in this league, but like Campbell this year, he was facing a critical year in 2007 with Jacksonville. Basically, either produce that season, or lose the future of the franchise tag. Maybe the Jags made the right call, maybe they didn't, but Leftwich really needed to be their starter that year in order to break into the league's top 15 QBs or so.
So while his talent didn't go anywhere, he's has a different prospectus at this age. He's in the Daunte Culpepper/Chad Pennington class now. Don't count out his ability to produce as a starter, but at the same time, he's no one's future. All teams want to think they have their future in house, and if they don't, they'll draft a QB. Basically, if we're dead set on giving up on Campbell, this is a bad sign, becuase it means Colt has no future here and we're likely picking a QB high. It would be a terrible mistake to part with Campbell given the start to his short career, but it's a mistake we've already attempted to make once. |
re: Q.B. competition?
Slow release? Zorn can fix that up in a jiffy.
First rule that you are taught at any sort of H.S. QB Camp is that you never f with a guy's delivery. Leftwich has shown that he can be productive at every level despite it, so just accept it as a necessary evil.
If his arm strength starts to go in 2 or 3 years, he might decline really fast. But right now, he can still make up for having a slow release by having a gun. |
re: Q.B. competition?
I don't like Collins, I love Brennan I like Campbell in a different system I like leftwitch in a different system..so what am I saying, cut collins and start Brennan

couldn't have said it better. This is odd. We should try to sign a guy like Garcia (though it's unlikely. he'll probably go somewhere where he'll have a chance to start.) or at least a qb with some experience in the west coast offense if we're going to make a move. I like Brennan but it wouldn't hurt him to hold the clip board one more year before stepping up to the no.2 spot. |
