What was the first album you ever bought?
Think back long and hard, what was the first album you ever bought with your own money?
I was 12 at the time I actually bought two at the same time and thankfully they weren't embarrassing choices looking back now. Van Halen's 1984 and Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA. Both on cassette. |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I bought 2 cassettes also - Simon and Garfunkle's Bridge Over Troubled Water and Black Sabbath's first album. Both still in my fav's. It was early 80's and I remember it because the cashier remarked about how eccletic my tastes's must be.
|
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I don't remember the first one that I personally bought, but I remember that when I was 11 I asked for and got (funny how my parent's ignored the explict lyrics labels) In Utero by Nirvana and The Bevis and Butthead Experience, and a Sony Walkman to play them on.
Those were good times. |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
First album? Don't know...but the first CD I ever bought was Bush - Razorblade Suitcase. I held out on CDs as long as I could, I loved cassettes for some reason. Still have over 100...mostly 80s hair band rock.
|
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
Guns and Roses "Appetite for Destruction," cassette of course. I was around 9 or 10 years old. I was a huge G N' R fan back in the day. I still don't remember how I managed to get it despite the explicit lyrics label.
|
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I bought two at the same time for my first album purchase. "Versus" by Pearl Jam and "Core" by the Stone Temple Pilots.
|
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
Thankfully I cannot remember because I am sure that it is embarrasing looking back.

Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
The first CD I bought was Enter the Wu. First album I bought online was The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The albums I remember playing to death were ATLiens and The Score.
|
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
Steve Miller "Fly Like An Eagle" second Lynyrd Skynyrd "Gold & Platium" and I still have both but I'm sure they are scratched to hell.
|
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
Def Leppard "On Through the Night"
Kiss "Rock and Roll Over" The first album bought for me was Billy Idol "Rebel Yell" |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
Styx "Grand Illusion"
Springsteen's "Born to Run" |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I think it was a Michael Jackson album but I really don't remember exactly.
|

I remember it like it was yesterday. My dad took me to the store and said he'd buy me two albums, one of my choice, and the second he would choose. I picked out Arrested Development, They sung Mr. Wendel and Tennessee and what not. My dad picked out Michael Jackson Off the Wall. Still two CD's I listen to on a semi consistent basis. |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
For the younger crowd have you guys even heard an album played or seen a turn table?

Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
When I a kid, my grandmother gave me some birthday money which I used to buy this [url=http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_D1ZZyTOG7tQ/SMW2j9XW0HI/AAAAAAAACc0/-Nnxdb09zVI/s320/Cover%2B1.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.1soundtracks.com/soundtrack/Alvin_and_the_Chipmunks/The_Chipmunks_Go_Hollywood_soundtrack/186024/&usg=__ukQx7GPgXu7drJ2KBZJOKBtuz28=&h=320&w=320&sz=39&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=eOCaTIIh-YmYBM:&tbnh=118&tbnw=118&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dchipmunks%2Bgo%2Bhollywood%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1]rump shaker[/url]
That was probably my first album...or New Edition's Candy Girl (on vinyl of course) I also vaguely remember Musical Youth's Pass the Dutchie (single, on vinyl) Those were the days when you had to drop the needle on the record, and then the best part was always seeing what the B-side track was going to be. Kids these days with their ipods... |

Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I don't think I bought an Album for myself until I was 16 or so. I'm pretty sure it was RHCP's Greatest Hits, and I bought it while on vacation.
My childhood was littered with "variety" compilations like 'Living in the 90's' and 'Cool Rock' and 'Jock Jams'. I remember the day I found out Shaquille O'Neal played basketball too! |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
The first one I bought wtih my own money was Tool's Undertow. Before that I would just record my own mix tapes off the radio.Anyone else do that sort of thing?

I'm only 30...Abba are you kidding me? Abba...? Don't talk to me about Abba! No, I cannot remember but it would have been something more along the lines of 2Pac, Mob Deep, Outkast, or worse Crucial Conflict. I think that it was Crucial Conflict, but I cannot remember. My willingness to accept my deep seeded love for classic rock did not flourish until my 20's. Until then I was drowned in a sea of mixed cultures influencing hypocritical wannabees into portraying something that they were not. I still have an appreciation for all kinds of music, but now I annunciate words and I wear my pants around my waist instead of below my ass. |

Crucial Conflict? Smokin on Hay!! Hahaha. Outkast is always good. Definitely some of my faves back in the day. I still have Mobb Deep and Outkast on the Ipod. Good music for the weightroom. I still have every word of ATLiens and Southernplayalisticcadillacmuzik memorized. |

I definately agree, good lifting music. I am ashamed of some of the songs that I have memorized. Yes, Smokin on Hay is one of them...sadly. I, like every other white guy on the planet has Ice Ice Baby memorized also, am I right...am I right?...Fellas? Shit, I knew I shouldn't have said that. |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
First album I ever bought was Kill Em All by Metallica but the first album I ever remember listening to was their "black" album when my uncle introduced me to them.

Both Outkast albums are classics... I know it's unpopular to say around music circles nowadays, but I think their newer stuff is garbage. I just don't feel it. |

Agreed. The last album I really enjoyed was Stankonia. Sheesh, that was almost 9 years ago now. Where does time go? |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I can appreciate what Andre did on the Speakerbox Album (or was it "The Love Below"?) from an artistic standpoint, but I would have to agree that it is not for everyday enjoyable listening. I have to be in the mood to listen to it. With the rest of the albums the songs can come on or be played at any time and you will more tha likely bob and sing to it.

Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
@RobH - I had that Arrested Development album on cassette (3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of...)...great album
@firstdown - I'm 30, and I had a 45 record player growing up (favorite record was the Muppets singing Yellow Submarine), as well as my parents' turntable that I fooled around with as a teenager, on which I played Michael Jackson, Men at Work, and Yes amongst other albums my parents had, which helped spawn my love for 80s music in college and beyond. I can't remember my very first album, which would have been on cassette, but the first CD I bought was Spin Doctors - Pocket Full of Kryptonite. |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
The first time I bought a record I was in 2nd grade and it was The Stary Cats Built for Speed.

I think the black album was the third one I ever bought, and was of course legendary. The fourth was Weezer's Blue album, another classic. I came into music at a very good time: Nirvana, Metallica, Pearl Jam, STP, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer and Green Day were all just coming out or hitting their stride. |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
man that's hard to say, I think M.C. Hammer hahaha..
first cd was lynyrd skynyrd - skynyrd's innyrds or something like that, greatest hits basically.. oh wait no, it was shaq's 2nd album, had his first on tape wow.. ahha |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I used to have (probably still do) this Greatest Hits vinyl that I scratched to death. It had all the classics (MARRS, UTFO, Whodini, Doug E. Fresh, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane...)
Those were the days Who here remembers Ghetto Boys, or US3? |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
Billy Joel, "The Nylon Curtain". At least I am pretty sure. It may have been Styx "Mr Roboto" album.
The first CD was Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" |
Re: What was the first album you ever bought?
I was listening to Mr. Roboto on my ipod the other day...man why'd I like that song?
I am the modern man... |
