Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
Colin Cowherd bashed the Skins big time today, stating that Skins fans are the worst of the NFC East because we think that we’re close to becoming a contender. He said we think that we’re a few players away from being Pittsburgh or the Patriots. He went on to criticize VC and DS reviewing the JC saga of the last months or two:
VC: “JC is our guy, he’s our starting QB” We attempt to trade for Jay Cutler We bring in Byron Leftwich for a backup tryout We wine and dine Mark Sanchez this weekend w/ VC, DS, JZ and the qb coach I don’t want this to be another bash the FO thread (which it will turn into), but wanted to take issue w/ the opinion of the fan base. I disagree w/ CC, that most skins fans think of VC and DS as a joke. I believe most of us longtime fans don’t think that we’re a player or two from being a perennial playoff team, that our issues go way beyond that. CC in comparison sais that Cowboys fans are better b/c they know Jerry Jones is crazy. He also continues by saying that you don’t hear any other NFC East Team doing this to their QB. My point is I think most of us long term, burgundy bleeding fans have major issues w/ VC and DS. We know they don’t have a clue. Are most Skins fans clueless? Have we sunk that far? I don’t think so. I'm taking up for Skins fans here. Dallas fans always think they are going to the SB...every year. So are we almost there, just a couple players away, from perennial success? Yes or no. |
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
Colin Cowherd was seperated at birth from that ShamWow/Slap Chop guy.

Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
Nah, if anyone is clueless it's Cowher. Seriously, why do you guys listen to that clown?
|
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
I stopped listening to him when I started to realize he's not really insightful, just a simple shock jock that knows how stir it up and continue getting people to call in and argue with him. As long as the ratings are good, he's working.
|
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
Cowherd admits he says things just to rile up the callers. Slow radio day equals CC saying stuff about the Skins just to get callers.
|
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
It's kind of a circle of violence. Colin Cowherd constantly disses the Redskins so the fans frequently dis him. Eventually it leads to Cowherd calling us the worst fans in the NFC East.
|
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
No, we're not a few players away from a SB. We're an offense and an owner away. Which? Flip a coin. I don't hate DS but I'm not his biggest fan either. I don't think that many of us fans have any illusions of winning a SB or even going anytime soon. I'd be happy to win the division or go to the play-offs.

Agreed right now my priorities/expectations or my prioritations if you prefer are as follows. 1. Go at least 3-3 in our division 2. Make the playoffs 3. Win the division 4. Win the NFC 5. Win a Super Bowl |
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
He sounds pretty clueless if that's what he really thinks about Skins fans. But then again he's generally pretty clueless on most things.
|
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
The things that he mentioned about Campbell's treatment were spot on. Campbell has done nothing to deserve the lack of respect and faith the morons in the FO are giving him. Campbell should just walk and tell Vinny and Danny to **** OFF!!
|
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
Honestly who cares what this guy thinks. Most of these radio and tv hacks were guys who never played a sport a day in their life, and if they did they probably sucked. This is their way of now getting back at those coaches who cut them and players who beat them out.

Yeah he gets old quick. I'm the best, I know everything, don't question me, you're dumb, I'm smart. Yawn. |
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
I think most mediocre teams are a few great players away from perrenial success, thats my crazy opinion.

Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
This is not a bash Cowherd thread, it is a self exam of us Skins fans. Yes/No. Do we think were a top organization, a few players away, almost a contender?

I think the NFL proves every year that if a few things fall in place anyone can "contend". |
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
If Arizona made it to the SB, or the Giants the year before, any team might strike it rich and get to the SB, but are we ready to be a perennial elite team. I don't know. And until we stop jumping from coach to coach, system to system, etc, and stay with one long enough for the roots to grow deep, we will never know. One of the best things about Zorn, when he was hired was he is at the prime age to be here 8-10 years. At 55, i believe, he has a good chance of putting it all together and developing his system. And I thought Snyder understood that when he brought him in. If he is trying to imitate Holmgren or Reid's successes, then he will let patience rule the day. And if he does, then maybe the next decade will leave a better memory than this one has.

Are we a well run organization: Long answer: Unknown. We have undergone a lot of turmoil the last 10 years. That's to be expected with an ownership change. Gibbs' brought stability and class that was sorely needed. Last year was VC's first year officially calling the shots, so the jury's still out. A lot will depend on how the draft goes and the 2009 season goes before that determination can be made. Short answer: Based on the last 10 years of W-L, No. Are we a contender: Yes, we have holes like every other NFL team, but we were 6-2 to start the year before the OL broke down and we ran into a few real solid defenses. We fix the OL and have a fairly injury free season (knock on wood) and we're 10-6 / 11-5 and in the playoffs. On Cowherd and his Skins fan rant, how quickly he forgets both Manning and McNabb were on the verge of being run out of their respective cities by the fans before Manning had the SB run in 2007 and McNabb closed out 2008 strong. On Dallas fans, (excluding a couple of members here) for the most part they're just either morons who think their team can do no wrong or closet dwellers when they lose. |
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
I pretty much never say this, but Colin Cowherd is a moron and I don't care what he says. His show sucks and so do his research abilities.

Yeah seriously, case in point: Atlanta. They got two major players and they made it into the playoffs. Big change from the previous year's performance. |

Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
I actually don't remember Cowherd saying that about the fans this morning. Must have missed it
|
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
If anything, CC might want to take a look at polls here & on wash post. In both cases, Cutler & Sanchez, the fans voted no. It was 63% or so against cutler & 87% against M.Sanch. & that last one was w/3,500 + votes!
What I take from those polls & from the multitudes of posters here, is that the hardcore Skins fan is very tired of the spend big, pay later, & trade picks only to be mediocre, approach that DS has taken for most of his ownership. Any year this team can make the playoffs w/some good fortune, but it certainly isn't a consistent winner, and the fans are not buying the Danny's big moves any more IMO. By & large I think we now have a fan base that's as close to being disgruntled & mutinous as ever! |

Absolutely correct. Try to sneak your way into the playoffs and then it becomes like a lottery. A better question is: Are we in a position to contend long-term, year after year? My answer is no. We need to do more work before that happens and that work can only unfold through several successful drafts. |

I would LOVE to assume this was a motivational tool to "light a fire" under Campbell, but I think the FO doesn't believe in Campbell.
CC in comparison sais that Cowboys fans are better b/c they know Jerry Jones is crazy. He also continues by saying that you don’t hear any other NFC East Team doing this to their QB.
Cowboys fans are OK cause they "know JJ is crazy", but we skins fans don't know Snyder is glorified fantasy football player??? HUH? We know what we have in Snyder. The other NFC east teams don't do this to their QB's? Ummm what? (slingin sammy touched on this) The Giants had a major issue with Eli until they won the SB, and they were 1 hair away from firing coughlin! They were ready to run both of them out of town! The eagles have had issues with a future hall of famer QB in McNabb. How many times have they talked about trading him, or rumored to trade. Even Reid was on the hot seat at one time. Also, I don't know how many of you actually talk to every day Dallas fans, but I have heard A TON of them talk bad about Romo. He is either really liked, or really hated, there is no in between. How can Dallas fans be so fickle about their pro bowl QB? Sorry, I think the other NFC East teams are worse, they just had more success, and that curbs ANYTHING! I do not think there is anything wrong with Skins fans being unwilling to accept mediocrity. If Cowherd is going to say anything he should talk about our patience factor, that's it.
So are we almost there, just a couple players away, from perennial success? Yes or no.
We need consistancy in the coaching staff...enough with the revolving door already, set something in place, and let the bad happen...the good will come. We need to stop thinking ALL our answers rely in FA! Build the team from the bottom up. We had pretty good chemistry last year considering all the changes that took place, and this year we only added 1 real outsider. (Hall was already here, and Dockery was here too). We have peices in place to be successful now (although a couple holes do need filling), we just need to be consistant. Problem is, the team is a little old, in particular on the OL. So we are NOT set up for perennial success, but we can be if we just exercise some patience. |

Eagles' fans comments following Sean Taylor's death should leave no doubt that they have the worst fans

He also slightly resembles Senator Mark Warner of Virginia. Together they form, in my mind anyways, a sort of Triumvirate of Douchebaggery. |

Hell wasn't it a Philly fan that said McNabb wasn't playing "black" enough. |
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
Call me an idiot cause...
I do think that we are 2 - 3 players away from being perennial playoff contenders, thus, Super Bowl contenders. One team leader and 2 more solid playmakers. (Whether or not JC is that leader is yet to be determined) Sorry, but all the DS bashing in the world won't make the leats bit of difference. He owns the team, he's not selling, get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

My answer to go along with this thread would be YES! But who knows and since my magic ball is broke and out for service at this time. I guess we will know in December/January how close we are, won't we.... |

I agree that we are close to being really good soon, and for the reasons Mattyk mentioned: raised play at RT, QB, and no-longer-rookie WR. It's the "perennial" part that gets me. We are old in the tooth in so many places and several folks could retire or lose a step over the next couple of years. I think it will take some time to get younger to meet the "perennial" mark. just my limited opinion... |
Re: Colin Cowherd: Skins fans worst in the NFC East
The whole few players away premise is ridiculous. I think most teams are a few players away, dependent upon the calibre of players. I mean look what happened to the Falcons this season. Bring in Matt Ryan and Michael Turner, and there you go. There's way too much parity in this league to ignore the fact that most teams are essentially a few players away. You put two or three big time stars on a team, and they'll turn it around, even the lowly Lions. I'll try and make them Super Bowl contenders with guys that were actually available this offseason, so it's more feasible. (although I will ignore cap numbers because that would be too much work) Somehow, Detroit pulls off the Jay Cutler trade, lures Albert Haynesworth away from our FO, and signs Brian Dawkins. Tell me they wouldn't be in the Super Bowl discussion, especially in their weak division with an easy schedule this year.

Detroit's in the Super Bowl discussion, anyway, because they changed what was holding them back - their uniforms. :) |
