Please Draft ??? at #13

We're less than a week away from DECISION DAY 2009!!!

So, based on the players that are most often rumored to be our pick at #13 who would you MOST want us to draft. I know more names than these have been mentioned, just trying to keep the list tight.

(Doubtful Sanchez will be there at 13, but I threw him in there)

Remember, this isn't about trading up or down. This is we have the 13th pick, so we pick at 13. Who do you want?

I like Oherakpo. We can play him both ways.

More seriously, in order:
1. Orakpo
2. Oher
3. Ayers

I'd list more but I'll bet that one of those guys will be there at 13.

I voted for Orakpo, but if we ended up with Andre Smith I think I'd be okay with it.

Well played. From the list given I'd rank:

1) Oher
2) Orakpo
3) Smith

but I would throw Everette Brown and maybe Tyson Jackson ahead of Smith. I also really like Peria Jerry to play the "3" but I guess I'd grudgingly go with the bigger need and take Smith over him.

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

If I, GTripp0012 (which is my birth name), was GM of the Washington Redskins, I would not be able to pass on Michael Oher at 13 unless there was somebody by the name of B.J. Raji, Michael Crabtree, Aaron Curry, or Jason Smith on the board. In fact, if a bunch of tackles fly off the board in the first six picks, I might get on the phone with GB and offer a 5th round pick (and a 4th next year) to go up 3 spots.

If we rule out the possibility that the FO is going to take a Tackle this year, Orakpo becomes the target at 13. The backup plan would be a USC linebacker of SmootSmack's choosing.

Oherakpo comes from SmootSmack.

I chimed in before the list was complete. Choosing from the list, I'll drop Ayers and add Maualuga at #3.

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

If Sanchez is there at #13 I would draft him...I just don't think I would trade up for him. I think it's clear that the Redskins have moved on from JC and QB is the most important position on the team.

If Sanchez were gone my next pick would be Andre Smith.

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

I like Orakpo because he can play LB and DE and would basically fill two needs with one shot.

My 2nd choice is Smith. I know he's immature but on the field the dude is a beast. He just needs to grow up a bit.

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

I would go with:
1. Orakpo
2. Smith
3. Maualuga

We need to get younger at the DE spot (Daniels, Wynn???)
We also need some serious help at the LB position
Smith would be nice to add to a aging off. line.

NO SANCHEZ NO NO NO NO...:soapbox:

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

None I would try to look into dropping back in the draft for more picks. but if that option was not available I would take the best OT on the board. My choices:
1. OT-best available
2. LB
3. DE

We had the 4th ranked defense in the league last yr and with AH I can see us being better. Our offense was stagnant. I just don't see how we can go over looking that fact and pick a defensive player. but reason is not utilized in Cerrato's picking process. Best available player is. I can see us moving up to get Sanchez. :)

For those of you thinking about going after Sanchez, Matt Bowen brings up some pretty good points.

I know, it pisses me off too but I'm sure he'll have a nice career in Pittsburgh.

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

I went w/ Andre Smith. No injury issues and the dude is flat dominant on the field. Oh did I mention our three OTs are coming off injury plagued seasons, two are aging guys and the young buck somehow is injury prone too.

Rey is my second choice, hands down.

I won't bitch and moan if Orakpo falls to us but I don't think he'll make an impact this year. As OLB he'll struggle in coverage I think, and we require so much of our OLBs. I think eventually Orakpo would just move to RDE after AC heads down the road, that is so long as his knee holds up.

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

Phrases like "workout warrior" and "high motor" make a big impression on me. We're not set for years to come on the d-line but adding Orakpo would pretty much get us there. A superior defense gives even a mediocre offense a much better chance for the win, obviously.

I won't cry if we took Oher or another top notch o-lineman or Maualuga but I will saw off my testicles if we draft Sanchez at 13. Actually that's mainly because the wife wants another kid and it makes for a good excuse.

anyone on that poll except Sanchez. Maybin is'nt #13 talent, but i would rather have him than a trade up for effing Sanchez.

A lot of times using "workout warrior" to describe a football player is a bad thing. It presumes that he is more focused at being great with measureables and at workouts, rather than on gameday - ala Archuletta.

It worked for the Ravens.

That article is a lot of nonsense I think. Sanchez started moving up after his Pro day and individual workouts I think, not the Rose Bowl game. I know a lot of people discount Mel Kiper...but he does put a lot of work into his opinions and he thinks Sanchez would be the #1 overall pick next year not just a possible top 10 pick as that article suggests. I have no idea if Sanchez is a franchise QB but I don't think Matt Bowen does either.

I am open to Sanchez at #13. I think the real issue is whether or not the Redskins have an open mind to JC being the QB beyond next year. If they do then I want to stick with him, but if they don't it may be a good idea to just move on now rather then spend another year trying to coach him up.

He should! When we play the cowboys, Eagles and Giants they will have a hell of a D-line (actually, 2 starting type D-lines) and we need to bulk on the OL especially up the middle to negate the rushers coming from the outside.

Centers just don't go that high. He'll go towards the end of the 1st at the earliest.

We need to bulk up in the middle to negate the outside rushers? Not sure I'm getting that.

I'm half-kidding obviously, but field vision is a skill that our current Center has never heard of.

Kiwanuka and Uyeminora come in quick, if you attack the middle holes with Dockery, Mack and Thomas you would have lots of day light ahead instead of running to the outside and those quick ends waiting for you. I really believe we could play smashmouth football with this guy in the middle. Centers used to be the most important position on the OL until RT overtook it. In my opinion C are the QB's of the line. Since Bostic left who have we had that made a difference?

With the 13th pick (or 9th after my predicted trade with GB) in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select, Brian Orapko, Defensive End, University of Texas.. Paintrain is a happy camper.

With the 13th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select, Rey Maualuga, Linebacker, University of Southern California.. Paintrain is a happy camper.

With the 13th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select, Andre Smith, Tackle, University of Alabama.. Paintrain is a happy camper.

Anything else (outside of a trade down) and I'm gonna hurt someone.

Re: Please Draft ??? at #13

We couldn't really go wrong with any of those guys.
Orakpo would fill and immediate need to our aging line. Same goes for Oher or Smith on the other side of the ball.
London Fletcher is a gamer but isn't getting any younger so Maualuga makes sense. He could play OLB until we run Fletcher off. Maybin would have to play OLB. He's too small to play DL.
And as much as I hate to say it, Sanchez would make sense because it really seems like our FO has no intention of resigning Campbell unless he has a pro bowl season and leads us to the playoffs.
But if I had to make a choice, I'd pick (in this order) Orakpo, Oher, Maualuga, Andre Smith, Malcolm Jenkins, Mack, Moreno, Cushing (these guys aren't on the list but are good football players), Maybin, and then Sanchez.

I'm hoping you meant LT otherwise your credibility is eroding quickly. Centers are rarely drafted above the mid 2nd, early 3rd round. The best center in our division (arguably) Jamal Jackson of the Eagles was an undrafted free agent out of Delaware State and he was a starter his 2nd year.

RT is the most important spot on the line? I always thought it was LT. Well, I guess it could be RT if you have a lefty at QB.

I chose Oher, but let's say if he isn't there then A. Smith if he is there.. But if both Ts are not there, then Orapko.. I have to admit, I'm starting to like the idea of drafting Orapko; he could immediately fill in the two glaring positions for defense (just like Matty just said in earlier post).. However T is still a priority, JC won't be able to throw touchdowns if he doesn't have enough time in pocket..
