Going to New Orleans for vacation in May...
For those that have been there before, give me some must see/eat/drink/music places to check out.

Re: Going to New Orleans for vacation in May...
Anything on the main drag if you want to make it back home alive.

If I talk to him over the next few days I'll ask him. I know at one bar he got the owner to add Hail To The Redskins to the jukebox, but I'm not sure what the place is called.

Okay... The most important place you need to go is Pat O'Briens (718 St. Peter), pretty much whatever you want: outside with cigars, pianos indoors, main bar, it's awesome; they invented the Hurricane, you gotta get one! Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop and Bar is off the chain. It's probably the most "local" place to go on Bourbon...it's all the way at the end and it's badass. Get a Hurricane. I'd recommend grabbing a Hand Grenade at Tropical Isle just to experience the drink, but don't stay, you'll be surrounded by a bunch of "21 year olds" who can't hold their liquor. Outside of that it depends on what you're looking for; Utopia is alright for a club, but I don't do clubs. As far as Jazz: I've heard good things about Bombay Club, but I've never been so I can't vouch for it. Definitely hit Pirate's Alley. It's right by St. Louis Cathedral. There's a bar down there that serves decent Absinthe. I think it's called The Old Absinthe House...you can't miss it. Finally, I really like Club Decatur as a place to chill and hit an 11 am happy hour. That's right...11 am. As far as food: You have to get a Muffaletta at Central Grocery, Beignets at Cafe Du Monde, and I'd recommend a Po Boy at Deanie's. Also, if you go Uptown, there's Superior Grill which is awesome and if you want to party with college kids you can always go to the Boot, The Raven or Bruno's (I don't know that I recommend this, Tulane kids get crazy on weekends). Touristy stuff: Walk around the French Quarter and go wherever strikes your fancy, the quarter is awesome. JAX Brewery is pretty cool, but there's not much to it, a few good places to eat/drink, though. Also, I'd visit St. Louis Cathedral, I'm not even religious and I appreciated it and it's right in Jackson Square where there's always Jazz and stuff going on. My only advice: Dress for a ridiculously hot trip. NOLA in May is going to kill. |

Where are you staying? What hotel? |
Re: Going to New Orleans for vacation in May...
I hate to be obvious, but if you like to relax and watch the River and people walking, go to Cafe Du Monde. I went to New Orleans, and my first night some friends and I sat there watching everything and having coffee/beignets. One of the most enjoyable moments in my life.

No problem man, I lived there for half a year, my fiancee is pretty much from there, and I'm getting married down there, I had to be able to make some recommendations...lol. One thing I left out, an awesome view of the Mississippi can be seen from the lobby of the Westin hotel. The lobby is on like the 13/14th floor, they'll just let you come up and look out, also there's a nice looking bar there, but it's probably really expensive. Also, I met Devin Brown there (New Orleans Hornets Backup SG); I think he lives there during the season. |
Re: Going to New Orleans for vacation in May...
There is a place you should check out in the French Quarter. It's called the "Le Mason Derierre".

Re: Going to New Orleans for vacation in May...
Your good, and your going to build a house quicker then it took the guy to just refinish your floors. Joking aside I hope you have a good time. My vacation plans got wided out when the company trip (cruise) I won was canceled because the company thought it might look bad.

Yeah it took me a while to get used to the drive-through beer stops. Seriously, they're like ATMs on the sidewalks...except they dispense beer. |

How long will you be gone for? More importantly, which day will the site conveniently "accidentally" shut down? |

Re: Going to New Orleans for vacation in May...
Big news down here with the SB announcement.
I've just gotta say, New Orleans is off the hook. We're thinking of buying a time share. We love it. It's like no other city I've ever seen, and that includes Vegas. |
Re: Going to New Orleans for vacation in May...
A fantastic city for the musical and culinary arts. A rich jazz history, and one of the best dining towns in the USA. Glad to hear you're having so much fun. That part of the country is so unique.

Everyone I know that has purchased a time share say's its the worse thing they ever did. If your dead set on doing so find a site or place where people are trying to dump off their time share at a loss because they never seem to gain any value only decress in value. I work for a guy who sold time shares on the weekends and he always talked about what a racket they are and he made good money selling them to what he called suckers. |
