Leroy Hill - A Free Agent!!

I was watching NFL Network and they stated that the Seahawks took the franchise tag off of Hill making him a free agent. He is only like 26 years old and has been playing the strong side linebacker for them for the past 4 seasons. If we can sign him then we could concentrate sorely on the offensive side of the ball for the remainder of the draft (C. OG, T, and QB).

I'd sign him asap, we'd be set on D and could focus on OL.

2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 72 | Key
Alert: None

Comment: Hill is a very athletic linebacker has the kind of speed that allows him to be effective as a blitzer or take-on defender. He has played both the strong side as well as the weak side in his career and gives Seattle a lot of flexibility in its linebacking corps. He has excellent instincts, does a great job of locating the level of the ball and flowing to the play. He is active and consistently ends up near the play at the whistle. He has an explosive pop to him when he makes the tackle and can consistently put the ball carrier on his back. He generally does not stay blocked for long, which is more due to his athleticism than his ability to step up and take on blockers. He is a little undersized and can struggle when matched up on some of the bigger tight ends. He is improving, but still needs to work on his ability to control blockers with his hands and show a quick burst off the block to make the play, as he escapes. He can run himself out of plays when he tries to run around or avoid the block. He gets good depth in his pass drops and can mirror most tight ends on vertical routes or combination routes underneath

Hill was their franchise player. My guess is that he will want big bucks.

He could take MW's spot at linebacker

Might as well call up his agent and put some feelers out.

Re: Leroy Hill A Free Agent!!

I would sign him in a heartbeat. Even though he just got into some legal trouble for some weed, but hell half the league smokes anyway....maybe it would lower his price. That would be sweeeeeeeeet and then draft OL the rest of the draft.

Re: Leroy Hill A Free Agent!!

Although all my knowledge of the cap is based on the updates on this site and it hasn't been updated in a while I don't know if we have enough room to sign a guy like him. I think I saw about 5 million in cap space, so we still got to sign our rookies and then that's what we have left. Although I'm sure we can cut Wynn or Daniels now, which would save maybe a million or two.

Why not just sign MW?

MW is getting old, this kid is young and has a ton of talent, and potential. Only problem is price tag... thats why we might see more of MW in 2009, we can probably pick him up for vet minimum.

Im hoping Levi Jones gets cut by the Bengals. Better then MW but not Hill and would be cheaper.

Levi Jones? he's an OT. Were you thinking of Dhani Jones? Either way. i dont see the bengals cutting defensive players, they need all of them at this point. I do agree though Dhani Jones would be a good pickup, i think he is an inside linebacker though, off the top of my head.

Hill is a nice young fast veteran who knows the coach. You would have to consider him if we have the cap room.

It would be interesting to see if the FO shows some interest, but if this guy had the franchise tag on him, he will be asking for franchise type money. Cutting Wynn or Daniels is an option, but you do need some depth, and they are seasoned vets. I am sure we are going to draft a LB tomorrow, let's see who we land!!!!

Man if there is a way to get this guy under the cap do it!!! Then look for that OT spot in the 3rd round! But that would be to good to happen? Still I love it big time! Danny make it happen!!!

How big it would round out the D in a big way my friend! Then in the draft look to get better on the OL and fill in with best players left on the draft board!

Re: Leroy Hill A Free Agent!!

This is a player we sure could use, but whats his asking price. I think we take a look but the numbers have to be right for us to sign him. Their are alot of teams who have huge cap space to give him a big payday. We can compete at this point if he is looking to get paid vs winninng.

This addition might make us the best defense in football. It would be awsome if they can afford it. Cant cost more than Taylor.

We'll see what happens with the draft with OLBs and who we get...keep in mind leroy hill was a 3rd or 4th rounder when he was drafted but he's diffenitly a possibility..

Who cares when he got drafted... He led the Seahawks in tackles and considered a top notch NFL linebacker... would you say NO to Tom Brady becasue he was drafted in the 6th round? where a person gets drafted generally doesn't mean a shit after 4 years... They either made it, or they didn't (Unless your Jason Campbell, then you need about 6 years).

This would be an amazing pick up. Add the speed at Linebacker so we can get to the QB.

Re: Leroy Hill A Free Agent!!

I dont know much about Hill, but if he was worth a franchise tag he must have some talent. The FO needs to take a look and crunch the numbers to get this guy. If we dont pick him up, regardless of the who we draft, I'd like to see MW in a Skins uniform next year.
my question is which linebackers are left in the draft worth taking?
Kaluka Maiava USC
Tyrone McKenzie South Florida
Marcus Freeman Ohio State
Nic Harris Oklahoma

These probably are the top OLB prospects left. I dont know if any are worth a 3rd round pick. Maiava is a beast but has had some injury issues.

Re: Leroy Hill A Free Agent!!

I'd say we have to seriously consider it He is an upgrade at LB and basically solidifies and allows us to focus on the offense for a while. Heck by adding Haynesworth, Orakpo, and Hill we have made some improvements to a decent defense. That'd be a potentially dominant type defense.

This is huge. The Seahawks would've had one of the best LB corps in the NFL with Hill, Tatupo, and Curry. I wonder if the Skins will/can make a move. He turned down 36 mil over 6 years.

What nice about him he would hit the road fast and be a very good player from day one and be around a few years. It would give us a D that would play with the likes of the NFC East! A D that would shorten the field for our O!

Re: Leroy Hill A Free Agent!!

Hill will definitely cost more than the Skins want to put out to address the SLB
situation.. There are still more options in the draft and with Orakpo's versatility,
He sometimes lined up as a LB in Texas, We might see a hybrid of DE/LB. I think
we will also be resigning MW, who I still love, too.

Danny work the numbers!

I love MW too but can he stay on the field or has father time tapped him on the shoulder? With Hill he is younger and could be a big factor in winning this year and years to come!

I like MW alot too and think he may be back, although we did sign Robert Thomas. MW looked to me like he had lost a step last year. But he brings such a great attitude and is a good locker room guy.

I don't think MW can play at the level needed. I like Hill and if we can afford this then he will be worth getting. This will give us 3 tackling machines at the lb spots.
