iPhone
I've got the fever for an iPhone, only thing is I'm not eligible for an upgrade right now and I really don't want to pay full price. I've been a long time AT&T customer, do you think they would take that into consideration and offer me the reduced price? Guess it's worth a try, right? For those of you that have one already, would you get it again? Is it worth it?

What is up with the Live Topic?

Re: iPhone
Matty -- I was skeptical of the iPhone myself, until I got one. I must admit, I love the damn thing. It has literally replaced my laptop when traveling for short times. For instance, this weekend I went out to Nebraska. Any time I had to go anywhere, I would just type something into maps and get automatic GPS directions to the place. Just type the business name, town, state and it finds it.
Its also good entertainment at the airport. Lots of games, entertaining, etc. For instance, it was draft weekend. I didn't miss a single pick or a trade. As far as being eligible for an upgrade, I bet they'd make an exception for the iPhone. I had a friend that they gave the discount to early to get the iPhone. |
Re: iPhone
I heard they are trying to clear out inventory for the expected new model coming out later this summer, so I figure that may work in my favor too. I'm going to stop by a store later today and see what happens.
|
Re: iPhone
I probably wouldn't have gotten rid of AT&T and my HUGE stockpile of roll-over minutes last summer if I had checked out the iPhone first. I just got so fed up with my spotty coverage that I had to switch to Verizon.

It's worth a try but I highly doubt it. iPhone is their #1 phone and Apple sucks a substantial sum from every iPhone sale and contract. I think your best bet is to claim your current phone stopped working and that you need a new one. |

Let us know bro
that way you can be on the way to jailbreak/cydia that thing |

Don't break it cause if they tell you to take a hike you ain't got no phone...just say it shuts down on its own and hangs at times. If they say lets see it you're cool because it happens some of the time and right now it ain't happening. All of this of course depends on your ability to lie without looking like a liar. |

I so want to make a reference here, but lest we go down the swine flu path... ;) separately, I once was on a pier, lighting 4th of july fireworks for my kids when my cell phone jumped out of my hand and flopped into the water (This is true, i swear). Frustrated I called and said what do i have to do to prove it (the water was to deep and mucky to have any hope of finding it). They ran a test on their end that showed the phone was useless, and I had to swear on a recorded statement that it was lost in the river. Then I could get warranty treatment. That was with Sprint several years ago. Doubt it would make a difference nowadays. |
Re: iPhone
I found it interesting that most cell phones that are broken are lost in water. Toilets mainly. The iPhone has something inside that says if it has been damaged by water and you can't claim insurance/etc on it.

No don't even go to that extreme. Phone companys are the biggest lay downs in the sales world. eligible or not you can get them to upgrade for you. They'll put up a fight at first but if you threaten to go to another carrier and pay you early termination they'll hook it up for you. Enjoy the phone |

This is very true. When I was with US Cellular they would do anything possible to keep me happy when I complained about my bills. (Even though it was usually my fault for going over.) I with AT&T now and have an Iphone 3G and absolutely love it. I cant see myself ever going back to a regular phone. If you haven't messed around with one yet I'd recommend going to a local Best Buy or AT&T store and play with one for a while. |
Re: iPhone
Well I got denied. I was told I couldn't even pay full price, I had to pay the no conrtact price which is something insane like $499. I'm not much of a hagler so I just said whatever and left. I'll try another store.

If you are curently not under contract, or it will be expiring soon, and you have no desire for a new one. Check out the phones on Ebay. It may be a pretty good deal to buy your own phone outright and swap the sim card. (you would have to see if the I-phone is that simple, I do not know) That way, if they piss you off, or your heart wanders to another suitor......you can go anytime...... I'm thinking about buying a new phone myself, but cannot decide? Alas... |

No surprise, they don't give a shit about you. Why should they? You're already under contract. I highly doubt you'll have better luck at another store. |
Re: iPhone
I figured someone who is ready to drop a few bills along with a more expensive contract might get some attention.

Re: iPhone
Matty, lemme just say first that getting an iphone would be the best decision you would ever make. You MUST at some point get one!
I understand you don't wanna play full price, so a possible alternative might be to switch providers. There are a lotta rumors circulating that Verizon is going to get a version of the iphone for the CDMA network. There was this report from USA today yesterday... AFP: Verizon, Apple discussing iPhone: USA Today I don't what you think of AT&T but the only reason i switched from Verizon (after many years) was because of the iphone. Otherwise, i loved their service. |

One would think. This isn't just an ATT problem either, it's with all carries. |

BTW Best Buy did me well on my sprint touch. The store wanted to charge me 100 more with the upgrade. I went to Best Buy bought the phone for 100 less plus i got a Sprint gift card for 75 bucks..Key is to haggle..lol |

While I was at the store they took my old sim card out of my razor, replaced it with a new 3G sim card and transferred all my contacts to it. Right now the only way to use an Iphone on another carrier is by buying an "jailbroken" or unlocked one. If I were you I'd find one on either Craigslist or Ebay and put my sim card in it. |
Re: iPhone
I forgot about Craiglist
|
Re: iPhone
One more thing. I would recommend calling your provider and asking what the difference will be in your phone bill. I cant recall how much more it was for me a month but I want to say around 30-40 bucks, but that's also with unlimited data and text.

Re: iPhone
Here's a question, my wife is currently eligible for an upgrade. Can I upgrade her line and just swap out the sim cards so I can use the iphone?

Yes sir, wifes can be useful like that. |
Re: iPhone
Back to the store then!

Don't let her play with it before you get it or she'll be hooked!

I agree with this, even people who don't like gadgets get addicted to this thing! |
Re: iPhone
Any update on this?
|
Re: iPhone
The wife is outta town, gotta wait for the weekend
|
Re: iPhone
you could always open a 3rd line at $10 a month or so, and then switch the phones. This works best if you have someone else who you are thinking about adding anyway, such as a child or parent.

most phones have had this for awhile; usually they're under the battery cover, small white piece a little smaller than the diameter of a pencil eraser, will turn reddish-pink if humidity gets too high i loaned my phone to my little bro for a couple of days and he fell asleep on his couch with his head in his arms and the phone below, just his breathing tripped the dot |
