Re: Cardinals Release RB James
It probably will be difficult for him to find a team now, as I'm sure he wants to be starter..

Re: Cardinals Release RB James
They also released Roderick Hood

Re: Cardinals Release RB James
Cardinals released OLB Travis LaBoy...Should we bring him in for OLB Depth???
The Cards guaranteed LaBoy $7.5M on a five-year contract last offseason, so they're taking a salary cap hit. They do have room to work with and needed the cash for Adrian Wilson, Karlos Dansby, and possibly Anquan Boldin's extensions. LaBoy, 28, got off to a hot start with four sacks in the first four games last year, but ran into the same injury woes that dogged him as a Titan. He's a very skilled pass rusher, but can't stay off the shelf. |
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
I'll take Marcus back over LaBoy...one knows our system and the other doesn't.
Won't be surprised if the Edge finds a home in New Orleans...would be very smart move for both parties. |
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
I can't imagine what Edge is going through losing the mother of his children at such a young age. Something tells me he's not thinking so much about who he's going to sign with right now.

I didn't know this. That is a very sad situation. Maybe this whole release thing came at the right time so he can spend some time with his kids as they are trying to cope with the situation. |

Re: Cardinals Release RB James
I agree with Mosley that james would be a good fit here. Of course, the price would have to be right, but i can't imagine anyone paying a very high price for James as a RB his age. I'd love to land James and have he and Portis split carries close to 50/50... keep Portis fresh and extend his career. I love Betts, but even at this age, Edge is way better.
|
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
His starting days are over and at this point I would even question how effective he can be as a backup over the course of a season. I don't see where he would offer any significant improvement over what we've already got.

Betts is the guy currently under contract here. And Edge is the best the FA market has to offer. All three of these guys have something in common: that their days as a quality starter are clearly in the rear view mirror. But Portis is what, a year or two from that himself? The presence of a complementary back is more important this year than ever before. Edge is clearly the better player than Betts at this point in their careers, and he's historically less of an injury risk (1 game missed due to injury in last 5 years), and he's coming off a year where the Cardinals did not at all abuse his legs, and he was effective in limited action. I say this because Football Outsiders has him as the perfectly average back last year while backfield mate Tim Hightower was one of the worst in the league behind the same line, which ranked 30th in adjusted line yards and 29th in power rushing success. As riddled as our line was last year, it was unquestionably better than that, even in it's worst form. Going back a season, Edge was still an average runner, even while JJ Arrington was one of the least valuable players in the league. Bottom line is: I don't think Edge can still be a starter, but even at age 31, he's still a more effective runner behind a worse OL than what Betts (age 30) is behind ours. I think he's a better runner for our scheme than Betts is, and ultimately, we'd be a better team with Portis and Edge splitting carries than with Betts and Portis. |
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
Goddamn it. I don't want two smash mouth backs. We desperately need a home run hitter- and Edge, Mason or Betts are not the answer. Skins need a guy in the mold of Leon Washinton, Jerrius Norwood or DeAngelo Williams. We could have spent a draft pick on a dynamic young RB, but I guess a lying, half-assed LB who played one season would be the better fit.

Well while you want a 5th, 6th, 7th round RB, I'm happy with us picking up a 1st or 2nd round RB next year. |

I don't necessarily want a guy in the later rounds, but you can get a good back in these rounds. I wouldn't be opposed at all to taking a guy high next year. |

Which I think it is better off waiting to pick a higher round guy next year. I think people would want Edge b/c he may be a better back than Betts. Personally, I want whoever (Edge, Betts, etc., etc.) who's going to contribute to the running game, so it improves from last year (i.e. keeping Portis fresh) and allow JC to have a good season and convince the FO keep him. This way, we can focus on a stud RB in the first round next year. |

Your lying half-assed LB (which is not that accurate of an assessment) played RB for three seasons. |

I thought you didn't know what GTripp was talking about. |
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
Ok, I got that now. Point is, this guy Glenn is certainly not the answer to our RB situation. I mean, c'mon. We're obviously looking hard at full back, but I think Vinny said they were looking for a scat-back.

People are going to complain about the OL, but we're very deep on the OL at every position but LT. That was the only real "need" position on the OL. Meanwhile, we have a very poor RB situation past Portis, who just enjoyed his career year. We simply didn't address it.
But oh well, there's always next year to address our two biggest needs. |
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
A poor RB situation beyond Portis??
Can't agree with that at all. |
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
A poor RB situation beyond Portis??
Can't agree with that at all.
I think it's evidenced by the inability to get anyone that isn't Portis any carries. I think that if there was one guy we could trust to run the ball, that player would see at least 100 carries. Admittedly, Betts missed three games last year, but still, 100 carries in 13 games is only 7.7 a game, and pretty much all true No. 1a backs averaged at least that much. |
Re: Cardinals Release RB James
I'm not sure how much of Betts' lack of carries last year was on him or just a bad coaching decision on Zorn. Betts has proven in the past that he's certainly a more than capable backup. If Betts was viewed as a poor backup why not ship him out? It's not like his cap number makes that an unreasonable thing to do.

Re: Cardinals Release RB James
if he is money minded he won't be here, all we are offering is vet mins

Re: Cardinals Release RB James
Betts is simply not what the Redskins need. He is a move the chains guy with good hands. He would be a great fit for a number of other teams. I think people just remember the 2006 season and the success he had then, but they forget several key factors. In 2006, our offensive line was at their prime and was arguably one of the best run blocking units in the league at that time. Any pedestrian running back would have been effective in that scheme and behind that line. Betts is not a game changer. His longest run of that season was only 26 yards. He had a good average, 4.7 ypc, but he also fumbled 4 times in that stretch.
I am not saying Betts is junk, but the Redskins desperately need an alternative. It goes without saying that there is a serious lack of explosion plays in the passing game, therefore we need more big plays from our rushing attack. Betts will not provide this dimension to the offense. |
