Marvin Harrison anyone?

A buddy of mine apparently heard a "rumor" that we might be interested in getting Harrison. Although ESPN reported the Harrison camp had "no interest from teams". Still when he posed the idea, at first I didn't like it due to our youngsters, but at second glance, Harrison is still an amazing talent, and would be our #2 WR AT WORST. Of course, I have no clue what he would be seeking, but considering his legal issue last year, and there seems to be no interest in him, do you guys think we take a shot?

If I was the Ravens I would. We already have too many bodies, I guess if an injury occurred.

cough cough... vet min

Re: Marvin Harrison anyone?

There is no interest in him and his "legal issue" had nothing to do with it. Marvin has lost more than a step. When he was released from the Colts, NFL live did a break down of his play over the last year or two. He does not get the separation he used to. Due to his lack of size, this is something that cannot be overlooked. Not only that, but Harrison wants his money. The Colts actually wanted to keep Marvin, but not as his salary, hence his release. I would not give him much more than vet min. at this point.

Luv Marvin but no. The young bucks need time on the field.

I'd love to have the young guys learn from a productive receiver, but I don't think he has enough to contribute on the field. So we should probably pass.

True, he could be done, but keep in mind, San Fran thought Jerry Rice was done, and he pulled in a 83/1139/9 season at 39, and a pro bowl season at 40 which consisted of 92/1211/7.
Granted Jerry Rice was by far the best WR ever, but Harrison is certainly a hard worker, hall of famer, and a cut above the rest.

FYI- Harrison will be 37.

Keep his name in the rolodex, just in case someone gets injured.

You'd rather have ARE instead of Harrison for instance?

No thanks. From what I remember SmootSmack saying about him, he wasn't liked much in the locker room and probably wouldn't be much help to our young receivers.

WHAT? That's the first I heard this. I always heard he was a consumate professional with an unmatched work ethic. The fact that Peyton Manning loved him means a lot to me.
So please inform me of his dislike in the locker room, cause this is the first I've heard of it.

McCardell?

I am a long-time Harrison fan but watching him last year was just painful. He had uncharacteristic dropsies and seemed to have lost all of his speed and quickness. Needless to say, he's not going to be faster a year later. I pray that he quietly retires rather than tarnishes his legacy with continued playing.

If you are referring to Henry Ellard...he was with the Rams...but if we could get that sort of production...I'd say of course...
But I dont know if this is anywhere near the same situation

I'm pretty sure he's done. Otherwise he would have been on someone's roster by now.

In the "Interesting Marvin Harrison article" Post #8. Smoot doesn't say he's not liked in the locker room but he says he's a loner and known as a bit of an ass. I'm paraphasing.

Harrison is a jackass who probably shot a man. He should be in jail for attempted murder!!!! The only reason he's not behind bars is because of a lack of evidence. Harrison w/out question is better than ARE but we've got two young guys and I bet one of them takes ARE's position as the #2. NO THANKS!!

Yeah that makes sense if you look at his actions on the field. Nothing against him but we need outgoing and helpful guys to assist the young guns. It's not like our offense is great already and we need the final piece.

On a side note I heard he likes gun charges.

Just to clarify, I wasn't talking about in the locker room I meant in public. Yes, he's a loner but I don't think his teammates necessarily ever had a problem with him.

I think Marvin is done. And I think if he signs it should be with a team that plays on the fake stuff...he is as slow as a mule on real grass. Most of his good performances lately came at home in the dome. No thanks...

At this point in Harrison's career...definitely.

We do not need to hold back the development of the young WRs another year. Kelly's knees already did that.

Re: Marvin Harrison anyone?

Like I said when Torry Holt was being discussed, let the young wideouts play, we don't need an old vet taking snaps away from them.

Might as well, you can always cut him if he can't stay out of the training room.

At least we can get him for cheap.
Don't know why it's OK to go after Hackett / Washington but not Harrison. (unless of course it's a money issue)
People say let the youth play...well that article does speak of this:
Malcolm Kelly is coming off another knee issue, Devin Thomas has much to prove and James Thrash may perhaps finally be vulnerable to age, so that's a spot that could use some upgrades and improved depth.
Really, we could use AT LEAST one veteran upgrade.
Randle El- 53-593-4tds, in a full 16 games.
Harrison- 60-636-5tds, in 15 games. (through injuries too)
Rather have Harrison than Hackett. Didn't like the idea of Hackett the first time around, still dont care for it, but as a vet min, that's fine. I do think Harrison would take a vet min due to lack of options from other teams. It's either play for vet min, or don't play...what would you do?

Superman13732 05-01-2009 08:09 PM

Re: Marvin Harrison anyone?

No to Harrison, slow and old. But here is a prediction, Kelly gets max 20 catches, and only plays in 5 games due to more knee surgery.
