Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
So let me set the stage first then you guys can give me your opinion. I live in a townhouse neighborhood that is mainly middle class. Since my son was born last April I have had many a sleepless nights due to his sleeping habits or lack of. =)
So when you are rocking a baby to sleep each night/day you tend to stare out the window. I keep seeing this one guy always walking through my neighborhood at like every hour of the day/night. This has been going on for a year, maybe longer but I have been seeing him for a year. This morning I go out to my car at 6 am and guess who is strolling the neighborhood? My best buddy. This time I really watch him almost tail him in my car. I notice he walks out my neighborhood to the main street meets some other guy they have the quick hand shake and then spilt. Keep in mind before I just watch him walk past my house but never really followed him. After I see that go down in my rearview mirror I head back and make sure he sees me and he knows I see him. Then I pull into my neighborhood turn around and pass him again, he throws up his arms with like a "what" look. I am hoping this may scary him off now that he may know someone is catching on. I feel like I should report this guy to the police but it is probably a waste of time because they will have to catch him in the act. I also don't want to get wrapped up in it in fear of retaliation against my property or god forbids my family. What would you guys do? He is not an eye sore and I am pretty sure he is someone's adult son in my neighborhood. I basically don't want to start WWIII with this guy but on the same hand I don't want drugs dealt in my neighborhood. Plus in the next year I am most likely moving to a single family house somewhere else in the area. Sadly you can't escape drugs in this country even in the "nice" neighborhoods they are being pushed everywhere, sucks. Let me also add there are a lot of good kids in my neighborhood that don’t need this going on. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
Wouldn't hurt to tip off the cops. Even if nothing comes of it at least you did something about it. It's your neighborhood man, protect it. Especially with a kid I would have no problem calling the police.

Narc him out!

Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
mredskin, I think your little driving thing was a little over the top. When you call the cops he knows exactly who called. I don't think you have much evidence right now. By your estimation, I'm a drug dealer. I've been known to take walks at 1am, 2am. Sometimes I take the garbage, sometimes I just want the air.
It's a tough line to walk, but from what you said here I think it's a stretch to assume this guy is a drug dealer. If you followed him more than once, and the same things kept happening, then I'd say go for it. I'm not even sure what Police would do in this situation. They can't just knock on his door and search because you saw him give someone a hand shake. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
Don't just call the mainline though. Make an appointment and speak to the District Chief or, if they have one, the community liaison. Try to get a face to face. Let them know that this what you have done and what your suspicions are. If you just call the local district and report it to the desk sergent, nothing will come of it.

Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
A quick hand shake with some dude and then they split? C'mon that's got drug deal written all over it. If he's seen this happen more than once, I can't believe it's anything other than a drug deal. What else would it be?
|
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
Matty, that could be all sorts of things. Maybe he was meeting him to get a phone number, maybe that guy borrowed money, etc. Could be a ton of reason. Did they shake hands and then turn to their original directions or keep going? Perhaps they ran into each other? Maybe that's how he walks to get to his work/etc and sees the same guy every morning.
I just don't think a handshake is that much. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
Your worried the cops have to catch him in the act? Thats easy! Set up a video camera..............somewhere. Then tell him that you know what he's doing and say that you want some. All you got to do is "shake his hand" after that.
I mean, he already saw you drive by him about three times or so................So, just tell him that you don't like driving across town for you stuff. On second thought..............maybe the cops should be the ones setting up the camera. That way you won't get charged for anything. |

The police may not search the home, but they may tail him for a while and see if they know his aquaintances. If everything is on the up and up and this guy just likes to meander around at odd hours, nothing will come of it. On the other hand, if it turns out he is consorting with known drug dealers, maybe it leads to something bigger. Either way, word gets out that people are watching what goes on in the neighborhood and THAT's the best way to prevent crime. |

I also see this middle age asian man walking all the time. He stops looks at people's garden, says hello if you pass him, etc... the dude is on a walk and he does it all the time. The guy I am speaking of has a lot of little clues that make him seem shadey. His head is on a swievel when he is walking he dififintley noticed me drive by him and when I came back he made the gesture. Also him and that guy didn't do the quick shake until I passed, they meet for like two seconds. It smells of drug deal. |

The fact he noticed you noticing him and had that reaction is a little fishy. Trust your insticts, if it smells bad it just may be. |

Exactly! This is the first time I have seen him greet someone becasue he goes out to the man road but in the past I see him pass my house go to the main road (out sight now) then come back two seconds later (for a year now). This morning was the first time I kind of trailed him out to the main road. Let me make this clear I proceded out of my neigborhood at a reasonable speed and passed them then saw the hand shake. I didn't trail them like I was a f--ing FBI agent. He difinitley waited until he thought I was pass him before they did the "hand shake". After that I turned around and came back that is when he gave me the what look. Now if yo uare just out for a walk would you really care someone came back past you in there car. I would jsut figure they forgot something. |

Agreed it was a bad move. I did nothing but look over at him but I think his guilty consciences got to him, thus making the gesture. |

^^This is solid advice. I know here in Frederick County, they take drug problems very seriously. I'm currently serving on the Grand Jury here...every other Friday from February to the end of August...we'll hear on average 8 presentments each session, of which 4 or more are drug related. If your local district has a drug enforcement unit, that might be another route to go as well. Give them your description of the person and their patterns, and let them handle it. Who knows? Your guy may have already sold to an undercover or an informant, and not known it. |

I hardly think the kid is going to do anything becasue I looked at him, he has been doing this for over a year and has yet to be caught he is not going to ruin a good thing because someone looked at him funny. I will just ignore him moving forward and let the police handle it. I was just so mad this morning that this was going on in my neigborhood even though I had my suspicsions his actions today confirmed it for me. I take pride in my neighborhood and my neighbors and we are a close group that work hard to keep a nice place for your children to grow up in and this cancer needs to go. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
This guy that he's meeting with... does he live in the neighborhood or is he a stranger too?
|
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
Matty, I totally agree. More than once and something is up. I mean, so many of these clues I may view completely different if I actually saw them. JoeRedskin knows better than I do, tip the police and see what happens.
Hope everything works out! |

No one I have seen before and he drove away afterwards. There are only like 20 homes in my development. We kind of live in farm country north of B-More. I know my neigborhood very well. Every house in close proximity to me I talk to those folks daily, go to Xmas parties, share good will with, etc... He lives across my neigborhood in one of say five houses that I could not tell you the people's names or what their general story is. His house well kept and all but I am about 90% sure it is his folks house. Which makes sense why he meets these people out on the main road and instead of them coming to his house. |

It's highly likely that he's reupping though; there's no reason to give a handshake at that time, but you were pretty dumb to make yourself so obvious. You expect the kid to be intimidated or something? And he'll know who to retaliate against if he chooses to do so. If you're not having issues with broke in cars, more shady people loitering around or whatever just keep your mouth shut. The last thing that you need is a brick through a window, molitov, your car ****ed with, or even harassment. He could just be picking up a dime bag, or a few pills or something, hell maybe even a lil coke, who knows; not to say that all of that is what you want around you, but keep the peace if at all possible |

Ok if everyone had that attuide then the drug dealers would run our neigborhoods. You can't live in fear and all I did was look at him. He lives with his mommy and daddy and sells pot on the side, this is not Scarface. I don't think he is going to cut me up in my bath tub with a chain saw. Anyways I took an early lunch went to the police station told my story and they were about as excited as Julia Child would be to eat my home made tacos from the box. Basically he is small fry to the cops in my area becasue they have this place called Edgewood in their jursdiaction that is just littered with gangs and drugs. They took my info and alerted the patrol in my area. Oh well I tried. The cop told me to avoid him and would be highly surprised if he did anything becasue the last thing they want is attention. I mean there really is not much they can do at this point. What would be great is if they raided his house like in Point Break when I am cutting the grass but highly unlikley. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
What do your neighbors have to say about this? Call the police. Even if he's a low baller that doesn't mean he'll not turn on his guy. Cops love getting little fish that lead to the whopper. Why don't you just go out there an confront him, I would. Just make sure you're packing heat. Say, hey listen if your out here selling dope then you need to stop. I called the police and if they don't lock you up I'll take care of you. The cops can't be everywhere at once. They're more of a deterrent than anything. It's up to you to decide what's best for your family. Once he knows that eyes are watching then he'll stop being so open, if he's smart.

Quoted for truth. He might be small potatoes, but if they figure out who he is and what kind of connections he has, you bet your life that the Cops will make the effort to nail him and use him to go up the chain... |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
I almost forgot. What happens when homeboy owes someone money or one of his customers thinks he pinched on a bag? They're going to drive to where he's selling and light him up. If he happens to be walking past your house . . . . It's just something to think about. I'd rather be proactive than reactive. It's you or him.

Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
He could be selling bass fishing bait. Or he could be a Mormon with insomnia. Or he could be an homosexual, in which case, if you were to call the police, it would mean you could never be Miss USA. But in all likelihood, he's dealing cocaine.
I am a bit surprised to see all our Warpath members who believe that the war on drugs is a failure and who advocate on behalf of legalizing drugs want you to call the police. Apparently the war on drugs is okay IN YOUR OWN NEIGHBORHOOD. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
Selling drugs is still against the law. It is OK to respect the law even if you don't agree with it. I don't sell drugs for this reason. Honestly though if all this kid is doing is sell pot I say let him give the people what they want.

Call the police. Respectable drug dealers don't deal to people they don't know(1), and they certainly don't deal on the street in front of god and everybody(2).
If they're dumb enough to be outside, report them. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
This is going to be hard to explain, and I'll probably be misunderstood, but what the hell...
If he's just using, it'd be nice to just leave him alone. Like was said earlier, drugs are everywhere -- you can't escape them. So, you're not going to be able to make a situation where you and your family are completely free of this kind of behavior. If the only problem is that he walks late at night, then there is no problem. You're just worried he could do something worse in the future. The reason you suspect that, is because you think he's immoral, since he uses drugs -- which of course is not valid reasoning. Truly it's his prerogative to use, whether or not anyone else agrees with it. Just because your morals don't conform to another man's doesn't make them wrong or you right. But, I know we can't do this... |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
^ I hear where you are coming from but last time I checked drugs don't usually attract the type of people you want hanging around where children play.
Though you did just make me think of something, maybe he is the buyer not the seller? Hmmm... Would you buy multiply times in a day and will drug dealers come to your house? I guess so. |
Re: Potential Drug Dealer- Advice Needed
Behind closed doors is one thing, but drug deals out in the open is something to be concerned about.
