Well, it's official. Parcells bent us over.

Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
What a f ing bum...cry baby ass J T can stay in Miami...cost us a 2nd round pick for a few games played..
|
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Parcells has been killing us his whole career, and it continues!
|
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
A 1 year, $1.1M deal. Ha. Unreal.
|
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
No surprise. Thats where he wanted to be all along.
He would have to take a cut in pay to play for the tuna. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
well atleast he is off the books here
|
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Well good thing the Dolphins will not also be getting any of the Skins 2010 draft picks for the guy. That would really be a punch to the gut ... oh, wait ...
|
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
He must have really hated playing here. His workout bonus alone for us would have been half of his new 2009 salary, not to mention he would have made $8M if he had chosen to stay in B&G.
Regardless, there's no question Bill Parcells is our daddy. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Ok he needs his head examined. He basically gave up 7.4 mil so he could spend an extar 24 days this ONE offseason with his kids. I lvoe my kids a lot but for 7.4 mil I'll miss them for a month and never look back.

Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Our FO got played? bigggggg surprise
|
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Traitor!
....just kidding. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Well, who saw this coming last year?
I'm sure a lot of people, just not many Skins fans. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
I think JT cheated on his wife when he was in Washington and she found out…and basically told him if you leave us again to play in Washington I will divorce you and take ½ of what you own…plus spousal support and ask for full custody of our children (not to mention destroy your marketability). BUT…if you stay in Miami I will forgive you knowing I will have you on lockdown and you only have 8 weekends a year away from us of which we will be going with you since the kids don’t have school on weekends.

It was as much of a football decision to cut Jason Taylor and reinvest his salary when they couldn't agree on an extension as anything else. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
I'm gonna go ahead and give that trade a non opossable thumbs up!
|
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
I'm sure we'll be talking about this in 2019...the move backfired on us, it sucks, you move on.
Hopefully we will have the same success with the return of Dockery that many are predicting the Dolphins will have with Taylor |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
We got hosed on this one. Big time. Memo to VC: Please get all the details done on a trade BEFORE you make the trade! Don't change the rules mid way thru. You cost us a 2nd rounder.
JT was never going to do his offseason workouts in DC. You would think we knew this going in. |

What else did we give up besides the 2nd rounder - was it a 6th rounder in 2010? |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
The Dolphins sucked the year before J.T. left and with the schedule they have this year they’ll be lucky to win 8 games. Who really cares about J.T at this point? We F up getting him last year this much is obvious now. But it seemed like a good deal for both teamsat the time. J.T. just couldn’t stay on the field. I’m not really bent out of shape over the whole thing. I just wish I had so much money I could piss away 7 million!

FRPLG - I agree completely with you - having an extra $7.4 million for some extra wrokouts was way worth his time. I am surprised he is coming back for only $1.1. million - from what I heard he wants to go into broadcasting and he could probably pull close to a million doing that than busting his tail and risking injury playing football - especially at his age and position. From this whole ordeal lets hope that we never have 2 season ending injuries to a single position for a long time on the first day of practice. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Hindsight is 20/20. Last year, after we lost 2 top DE's in about 48 hours, the FO went out and got the defensive player of hte year from two years before. While some were worried that the price was a bit high, many (probably the majority) thought the FO did what they had to do and were pretty happy with the aquisition.
It didn't work out. Sh** happens. As someone else pointed out, I wish I could say "No thanks" to 7 million dollars. |

Not if his number one reason is to retire after this year as a Miami Dolphin. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
I think this could be spun, from a FO apologist such as myself, as proof that our FO understands value. After all, apparently we were trying to force him to reduce his overall pay, or stretch it out in such a way that we could cut him without guaranteeing the 8M he was supposed to get, and he would not. Clearly there is no way he was worth 8M this year, so the FO forced him out rather than just paying a ridiculous amount for his services.
All in all, I am with Smoot, time to move on about this. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Hey look at it this way - when the Skins cut him it made the need to get a defensive end even more pressing and the Skins got lucky and we got Orakpo who is going to be a beast.

Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
The truth is, nearly the whole bill for JT has been payed already. There's the 6th next year still outstanding, but the 2nd, the opportunity cost of giving him a roster spot, and the salary (zero dead cap) is off the books entirely. So now that the draft is over, we can forget that this ever happened.
It was the kind of result that I saw coming a mile away when we threw picks at a problem out of desperation, and I thought it was a really obvious gaffe. Sure, in hindsight, it's obvious we got our pants dropped on this one, but a lot of us thought at the time it was a great move, and that surprised me. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Damn Ye Cerrato! Where's my draft picks?
:bdh: |

If he wants to retire as a Dolphin after the 2009 season, he can't very well do it playing for the Redskins in 2009. Which means he had to walk away from more money to get what he really wanted...retiring as a Dolphin. |

I thought players often sign one day contracts for this reason though. For instance Art Monk came back and signed on as a Redskin and than retired shortly therafter so he could retire a Redskin. |

In the end the moron is JT for giving up 7 mil.
I think we're looking at it from the wrong way when we point out he was giving up 7 million. That was a totally non-guaranteed sum of cash, and had he gotten hurt in camp with a two month injury, we could have cut him and not payed him a single dime of his salary. This wasn't quite like Lavar giving the team money to buy his freedom. He wasn't a lock to make the roster anyway, especially if he wasn't going to show up for OTAs (and even if he did).
It was a contract extension he signed way back in 2004 (I think), and he had already earned almost the entire value of the contract with his play. If he hadn't gotten traded to us, he wouldn't have seen last year's $7.5 million either. It's clearly not money he was expecting to make, and the fact that he could have possibly made it if he busted his ass during the offseason, and we could have still denied him the money, it probably wasn't worth the money to string it out in the hopes of a big payday after Week 1. Although he did have a roster bonus we would have paid a few days after we released him. That was a big sticking point in the negotations. It was, "hey, come to some sort of an agreement with us, or we're going to cut you and you wont see any of that". No agreement = he was cut. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Or look at Brett Favre, He signed a contract with NYJ, and now he's retiring as a ... oh wait, never mind!

He can just sign a one day contract if he wants to do that. He doesn't need to play for a year with them to do that. |

Beat me to it. B Mitch did the same. |
Re: Jason Taylor to re-sign with the Dolphins
Oh Jason Taylor resigned with Miami ? Should we be upset ? F him. He's gone and now he's not a Redskin anymore. That's all I need to know. A "mistake" was removed and we should be thankful. It was a 2 draft pick mistake, but so what. It happens, teams mess up and we as fans stick by them if we choose to. I had high hopes when he got here but since he has moved on, I wish him well in his future endeavors.

Horrible move by the FO but what's done is done. Next.

Seriously, who cares. I guess the Skins are the only team in the league that have moves that don't work out. |

I guess the Skins are the only team in the league that have moves that don't work out.
Well it's not that other teams don't make mistakes. It's just the mistakes our FO makes are retarded as hell. The smart thing to do was not to panic and let Evans play. That 2nd round pick could've been used on a potential quality starter.....perhaps at RT. But there is nothing anyone can do about it now and it's time to turn the page on this one. |

Yeah, I kinda forgot about that. But just because I'm not willing to be proven wrong, perhaps he wants to actually play his final year with the Dolphins. |

Well if I recall correctly a pretty large majority of fans approved of the move at the time. If he doesn't get hurt things could have turned out much different. Retarded moves happen all over the league not just with the Skins. |
