I appreciate what he has done in the past but it is pretty sad if we can't find a better guy than an injured James Thrash.

Really good guy, solid locker room presence and has been a solid teamer, TRUE REDSKIN, a #3 WR hes not.

But it will be retire or get cut for Thrash. Enough, enjoy the rest of your life while you can still walk. Maybe, a ST or WR coaching career down the road.

I thank him for his years with the team, but really he needs to look out for his health first. I dont think he is going to make the team this year anyway, at least I sure hope not. And if he does make the team, how much will he really play and contribute? Lets go with Roydell or a young guy and keep it movin....

I hope he retires. I think he will. He's a smart man, I'm sure he knows he'll almost certainly be cut if he doesn't hang up the cleats.

It's kind of a bummer to think Jansen and Thrash won't be in the locker room anymore.

Yeah he is so intelligent and I can either see him as a coach or working to make the NFL better somewhere in a corporate office with the league. He has been an asset to our locker room and, at times, on our field.

Great guy, but overall there is good news out of this. Hopefully some of the younger guys will get more of a chance.

I think Thrash has been a great example for all the younger guys over the years and has been a ST's beast. I appreciate everything he has done for the Redskins, but I would like to see him retire and go out with the dignity he deserves.

I love him....he keeps his mouth shut and plays hard.....but 1 or 2 TD's a yr aint going to cut it. We need more from our WR's that are active.

Sadly, many young (and veteran) wideouts don't follow this philosophy.

Another thing about Thrash, via Cooley's blog, is he apparently studies and takes notes like no other. He is the true professional as he is 100 percent focused on improving all the time. I am not surprised that Zorn will allow Thrash to take his time; teams have got to love guys like this even if their output may not be as great.

re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash

James Thrash has stretched his career incredibly far & still plays like a rookie looking to make the squad. Along w/Jansen, he's been one of the few solid long-term vets that we've been blessed to have on the team for so long.

If they cut Jansen, Thrash knows that he could be next. At 34 it would be ideal for him to step away & it would be nice to see a vet retire w/the team for a change, rather than go on & play in spot duty somewhere else.

Then again, this dude has made the team beyond crazy odds before. Maybe he'll try once more...

re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash

I agree with the sentiment everyone seems to be sharing that its time for him to go. His health aside (which is the most important thing for him), its better for the team if he goes, as his vacancy would create a spot for a young guy who we can groom. At this point, it doesnt make sense for us to waste a roster spot on an old, declining #5 WR, who doesnt contribute much to the offense or ST, and at best will only be around another year or two. Right now, he may be a better olayer than a guy like Marko Mitchell, but guys like Mitchell are more "deserving" of the roster spot.

A classy guy all the way. Has has always been one of my favorite players. There are many players who could learn from James Thrash and how to handle themselves like professionals.

I wish James Thrash the best. I hope he doesn't risk his health to keeping playing cause he has his whole life ahead of him. He is a model for all the young players to mold themselves after. His hard work and dedication makes him a true pro. Good Luck Thrash listen to your body its time to call it a career. God Bless.

I thought I heard Larry Michael say something about an announcement Monday. I was only halfway paying attention but it wouldn't surprise me if Thrash announces his retirement.

Not sure what notes he would be taking unless it's what he sees the defenders doing on other teams cause we all know Hixon is not passing any info worth it's weight in gold.

At this point I would almost say fire Hixon and make Thrash the WR coach. Maybe all his notes will finally help the team. ;)

Lol I don't know about Thrash taking over Hixon's position, but it would be great if Redskins FO is able to offer him a job position as coach assistant or somewhere in FO.. He truly deserves it, and it would be funny not to hear anything about Thrash anymore when he retires and leaves NFL..

Matty posted the news of Marko Mitchell, but he may be just the WR to replace Thrash. At least he seems to have hands.

Thrash's best days were during the Norv era and his stint with the Eagles. By the time we resigned him he already seemed a step or two slower than his old self. I like him, but there is a time to know when to take a bow and move on. With him gone we can now hang on to one of the new WR acquisitions that might pan out to be a #3 WR.

Zorn was quoted today as saying that Thrash has "a situation where it is not improving." Doesn't look good for James. That's too bad. I like the guy, but it's time to move on.

re: Updated: Redskins Release James Thrash

I have no direct insight into what James Thrash is thinking about his career at the moment. However, I am confident that when he decides to stop playing NFL football, we will hear from and about him in terms of public service/teaching.

James Thrash would be an excellent football coach; my suspicion is that he would want to start that kind of career out at the high school or collegiate level where he could be a teacher in addition to a coach. And by "teacher" I do not mean to box him into a classroom; James Thash can teach in the classroom to be sure but he also has much more to teach people about how to live thier lives in positive and productive ways.

I would not be shocked to learn that James Thrash eventually started a youth ministery focused on sports and education for kids who don't live in the "high rent district".

James Thrash will never make it into the Pro Football HoF in Canton, Ohio as a player; but he is an outstanding human being.

The Washington Redskins - - and all of the NFL to be sure - - would be proud if every player were as good a person and as helpful a citizen as is James Thrash.

Forget the football player for just a moment and focus on the fact that this is an outstanding person - - akin to Darrell Green and Charles Mann and Art Monk - - who also happened to play some football for the Washington Redskins.

I hope Thrash does stay here in some form. As said often in this thread, he brought a good thing to this team for a long time.

This team certainly doesn't seem to be holding on to anyone just for the sake of holding on. I hope that opens the competition level across the board.

On the field impact, it should be a really interesting training camp battle for the #5 spot between Mitchell and R. Williams.

Off the field, Thrash is the ultimate professional and a class act. I hope Snyder is smart enough to give him a role in the organization (when he retires) to keep him in the fold.

He is making more money than JC for crying out loud. His career season high numbers weren't that impressive to begin with. He is a slot reciever at best.
