I'm a little surprised Gibbs didn't wait until Monday night, at the last possible moment, to make the announcement publicly.

Gmanc711 09-25-2004 03:10 PM

The quote " hopefully he will be ready to go " dosent exactly make me feel to confident. If hes not 100%, he shouldnt be out there, in my opinion. I mean, I dont know how Brunell feels, so its just speculation... but either Gibbs dosent trust Ramsey right now, or Brunell is afraid to lose his job. Whoever it is just better get the job done. :dallas:

rickmmrr 09-25-2004 03:17 PM

I'm thinking maybe Ramsey didn't impress Gibbs enough this week in practice.

Bozzy 09-25-2004 03:18 PM

3 INTs will not get you the starting job. Period.

Daseal 09-25-2004 03:51 PM

Rather have some sort of offense and interceptions than little dump passes and fumbles like Brunell has done.

Sheriff Gonna Getcha 09-25-2004 04:34 PM

Maybe I'm biased (See, my screen name), but I think that last week's performance was a fluke. Ramsey came out last week throwing deep and confidently (a la Skins-Titans 2002) and hoped to impress. Instead, he made poor judgments and got picked. So, Brunell starts.

I still strongly stand by my screen name and believe that Ramsey will be a Pro Bowler.

What do you call the preseason then?

Gmanc711 09-25-2004 04:55 PM

Here we go again .....

Big C 09-25-2004 05:18 PM

Bozzy 09-25-2004 05:23 PM

Ramsey still hasn't learned Gibbs' system yet. He's getting there.

we should have a point/counterpoint between Ramseyfan and Brunellfan. All we need now is someone with the screenname Hasselbeckfan

A quarterback adjusting to a new offense and new head coach.

I have not heard a single person on this site question Ramsey's abilities. Perhaps, all those who once praised him as the next Joey T. will jump off the bandwagon now, but I'm not going to.

Gmanc711 09-25-2004 06:39 PM

I'm the biggest Ramsey fan, hes my favorite player, hell I named my dog after him. I think a healthy Brunell is still proboly more effective than Ramsey at this point. HOWEVER, I dont think there is any way Brunell is 100%. Seriously, a hamstring injury is not somthin to mess around with. If Brunell starts this game, hes going to be less efective than Ramsey if hes not healthy. In addition, if he's still feeling it, he's proboly gonna be out by halftime with the same damn injury.

Redskins_P 09-25-2004 06:50 PM

I am proud to say that I'm on the Ramsey bandwagon.....

MTK 09-25-2004 06:54 PM

I still think Brunell is going to be a good fit here, he just needs time to get into the flow of this offense.

I also think this talk of his arm being weak is really overblown. He still has plenty of arm to get the job done.

offiss 09-25-2004 07:32 PM
3 INTs will not get you the starting job. Period.
How many TD's has Brunnell personally handed to the opposing defense in a little over a game and a half? Answer 2, How many passes over 20yd's? 1, what is his QB rating 67.3%, Ramsey had to come in and try to clean up Brunnell's mess, and he did something Brunnell hasen't done, move the team up and down the field, as well he did it without the ability to work with the first team in practice, and having a game under his belt, Ramsey is the better QB hand's down, he need's to be on the field to get acclimated with the new system. We can blame Ramsey for the INT's all we want, but the fact is Brunnell is the one who surrendered 7 point's with his INT, which put us in a hole to begin with, I also seem to remember us losing by 6 point's, Bottom line if Brunnell is the veteran and that's why he was brought here, then HE shouldn't be making these mistakes, Ramsey on the other hand givin a fair chance to play, will take the job from Brunnell, but he need's experience in this offense.

First thing in the Giants game- Ramsey gets sacked. This is after the defense did a pretty decent job of protection.

The thing I really dont like about Ramsey at this point in his career is that he holds the ball way too long, and makes bad decisions. Brunell is a more savy veteran and I think he is what we need this year. Plus he is more mobile than Ramsey by far. The only time Ramsey ever runs is when a huge hole opens in front of him. If u watched when Brunell was running and Portis threw the block, he made the right decision to keep going and get the first down.

Im also under the impression that if we are in a position where we have to have Ramsey or Brunell win the game for us, we are in trouble. We are running the ball and stopping the run. That should = wins for us this season.

Ramsey cant make multiple TOs in the red-zone and hope to play for Gibbs.

MTK 09-25-2004 08:26 PM

Right now it's a toss up as to who the better QB is IMO.

Both have made their share of mistakes in this offense thus far. However I do think that Gibbs is going to stick with Brunell mainly because of his experience.

If Ramsey had come in to the Giants game and not thrown 3 INT's, Gibbs might have something to think about right now.

Until Ramsey can cut down on the his mistakes, Gibbs is gonna stick with the vet.

I like both guys, I'll be rooting for whoever is behind center.

skins009 09-25-2004 08:37 PM

This is the right move. I love Ramsey too, but he needs time to learn the offense. But I agree he might be getting some time on monday night.

Daseal 09-25-2004 09:50 PM

Is there a greater chance that Brunell will re-aggrivate his injury and make it worse in the long-run if he plays? All I know is the same injury sidelined vick for 3-4 weeks. Obviously Vick and Brunnell are a world apart, but still!

This same injury sidelined Vick for 4 weeks!??!

And Brunell is gonna play the very next week...

Brunell being in his mid-30's and Vick being in the 'prime' of his career?

Maybe Vick's the one who 'needs to take the diapers off'

That Guy 09-26-2004 12:06 AM

i think (from all the interviews with brunell i've read and seens this week), that he's honestly afraid of losing his job again... he got injured in jacksonville and never re-entered the line up, so he might be pressing here to make sure can stay on the field... (and he probably knows that his performances thus far haven't been very awe-inspiring or given the coaches a really obvious decision of who to start....)

I'd like to see him throw it deep and actually hit a receiver though... so far he hasn't been able to get it deep AND into someone's hands...

Hogskin 09-26-2004 12:12 AM
Rather have some sort of offense and interceptions than little dump passes and fumbles like Brunell has done.
Not I. And downfield passes followed by INT's is DEFINITELY not Gibbs football. Even Riggins, who was not a fumbler, earned a spot on the bench at the end of his career after a long run in a critical situation - the ball was knocked out of his hand and turned over. Gibbs hates turnovers more than anything. Three turnovers in less than a half sounds an alarm on a Gibbs team.

Daseal 09-26-2004 08:05 AM

Brunell turned it over twice and didn't drive us down the field after the initial drive. At least Ramsey created some sort of offense. We should have been running it in the red-zone anyways.

That Guy 09-26-2004 08:52 AM

i really kinda wanted to see ramsey play, and really i don't think either one was any better than the other against the giants... you said you don't get the starting spot with 3 ints, but brunell has had 2 fumbles returned for touchdowns and an int, yet he's starting ;)

Hogskin 09-26-2004 10:08 AM

Well, I'm not the one that said that (and I don't believe in a general statement like that), BUT...

Brunell has had one INT in 6 Q's, Ramsey 3 INT's in 2 Q's

Brunell has fumbled 3 times in 6 Q's, 2 for turnovers. Ramsey fumbled 2 times in 2 Q's, and was fortunate that neither resulted in a turnover. And the majority of all those 5 fumbles were caused by OL. On Brunell's fumble when he tried to hand off to Portis as he was falling because someone was standing on his foot, you could say he should have been smart and just taken the loss. But in many similar situations, when the RB DOES get the handle on the ball, the QB gets rave reviews for making the play, so it is hard to say he was totally wrong for trying (although, after the fact, I sure wish he had not)

In any case, those stats from such a short period of time should not solely determine a starter, but no matter how you do the math, that does not come out in Ramsey's favor, and it does not come out anywhere close to even.

Gmanc711 09-26-2004 10:36 AM

I think the bigger issue here is Brunell's health. There is NO WAY hes at 100%. He's putting himself at a huge risk giong out there on Monday night. I honestly wouldnt be shocked if hes outta the game by halftime.

SkinsRock 09-26-2004 10:37 AM

Gibbs has made Brunell the starter, and as long as he's healthy enough to play, he will. I think he also has confidence in Ramsey, but he is sticking with his decision....for now. If Ramsey hadn't thrown 3 picks and had won the game last week, who knows, but that's not what happened. That said, I still like Ramsey a lot and think he is the future for this team.

Hogskin 09-26-2004 11:10 AM

I don't really think he is at "huge risk" by playing, but I do agree with the rest of it. I also would not be surprised if he is down and out by halftime. But with his injury history in recent years, I felt that way before the season even started.

That Guy 09-27-2004 12:36 AM

unless you count points off turnovers ;) then brunell has a double digit advantage :)

With Brunell's experience offsetting his the lack of practice time this week, combined with the fact that Ramsey did get a good amount of time with the starters should give us a pretty good one-two-punch if needed.

That Guy 09-27-2004 10:01 AM

is it wrong that i was a bit bummed when i heard brunell was going to be healthy enough to play?

hopefully he hits it deep and on target, but i seriously think he may be out by the half again... dallas is going to blitz all day, knowing that brunell is still gimpy and prefers short routes...

Hogskin 09-27-2004 10:31 AM
is it wrong that i was a bit bummed when i heard brunell was going to be healthy enough to play?
Not at all, Guy. It's sure not going to hurt a thing. And if I felt that Ramsey was our best shot, I would probably have those same emotions. But I do agree with SkinsRock - if Ramsey is our 2nd string QB, I'm sure glad he got a lot of practice time with the first string on a week when Brunell is coming back quickly from injury.
