Anyone have any suggestions for how to get a dying Skins fan good seats?

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but my old man was diagnosed with cancer around the holidays last year and we just got the news that the chemo and radiation didn't stop it, so it appears that it has spread. I fear he might not have much time left. I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm not, I sure as hell don't want my final memories to be of him sitting around in his house, working. He's a lifelong Skins fan, as was my grandfather, who passed away last year, and figured it was worth a shot to see if I could get to one last game with him.

One problem -- seats. The kind of tickets I am likely to be able to get my hands on are nosebleeds and he's on oxygen due to the cancer, so walking up all those steps is not going to happen.

I'm dubious about my chances of getting some kind of "old man's dying wish" seats comped by the team or anything, but who knows. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there an area that would be good for someone of limited physical strength to be able to sit and enjoy the game? I've only been to Fedex a few times and it was always the nosebleeds so I have no idea what the other options are.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks, I didn't see that when I was checking out Skins.com earlier.

Wow man, sorry to hear that. Our hearts and prayers go out to you. Why not reach out to community relations. Emphasize that you are willing to pay for the tickets and aren't looking for a handout, just trying to accommodate him. I'd also reach out to Matt Terl at Redskins Blog, the beat writers at the Post and Times, the new head of Redskins media (Weisman or something?), just exhaust all options. The more people that know about it, the better off you are in trying to get something done.

Yeah, I'm assuming you're not looking to break the bank, but fan sites are a good place to take a look too. Maybe start a thread over at ES or something like that, most season ticket holders might be looking to unload a pair or two each year.. I just dont know how picky you can be on which game or not.

Ive got a 52 inch television, I don't have to worry about parking, and I can watch all the interviews after the game. I had tickets when Riggins and Theismann played.

That seems like an odd thing to say in this thread. "Hey my father is dying of cancer and I'd like to fulfill his dream of going to one last Redskins game. Any thoughts on how I can do this?"..."I've got a big tv to watch games on so I don't have to worry about parking"

Dgack, I've got a couple of ideas that I'll look into, but can't promise anything. I think Paintrain's suggestion is best.

That's great, very proud of you.

Now how does this help his dying father?

Thanks for the ideas and support, guys. Knowing my old man, he'll balk the idea and protest a lot but I don't think I'm going to let him give me any excuses on this one.

This sounds like the best way to start. I wish you and your father well as these must be tough times.

I just want to point out that I have a 50 inch DLP screen with surrond sound and I have have never had season tickets. I know it is 2 inchs shorter but the surrond sound really makes it feel like you there and we have plenty of parking as well.

I hope this helps.

I used to have a 50 inch dlp but i got rid of it because you had to sit straight in front of it to see the picture. I sold it and got a 46 inch lcd. Just thought you'd like to know.

Either you didn't understand what he was asking, or you're an odd dude...

It looks like you can get Lower Level End Zone seats (not the obstructed view ones) for around $125/ticket on StubHub to see the Rams, Chiefs, or Bucs. Maybe that is too much for you, but that is about what I paid to see the Cowboys game in the Upper Deck in 2005 and 2007. Best of luck.

Never have had a problem viewing it and I generally don't watch TV from the side but to each is own.

Hey guys, looks like the dates aren't going to work for us after all. Was shooting for the home opener but he's got doctor's appointments that day, and the earlier preseason games are night games which just won't be good for him, so ironically it sounds like we will be sticking with a TV set and "front row seats" after all.

Hey man I would still try to reach out to the organization, local sportswriters, or even players. Someone may want to help you out.

I am very sorry for what your family is going through. My grandfather went through it and it is tough.

I know a promoter that gets those front row seats for all the games... I'll ask him and see what I can do for you.

We play at Detriot at 1 on 9/27 and at Carolina at 1 on 10/11. I feel like there should be a decent amount of Skins fans at both of those games.

Either way, my heart goes out to you, your father and the rest of your family.

Right there with you Hog! My thoughts and prayers also go with you! My Lord Jesus wanted to see my dad more than we did!

Have you thought about taking your dad to Training Camp for that interim time between now and the regular season? He might like that if you can manage to get into the shade.

Maybe wear a "Cancer Survivor" T-Shirt, and someone will ask the right questions when you go.

On a side note, call him just to call him. Talk about what kind of work he did, who his work friends were and such. Talk about his church, favorite color, favorite day, or date, or update him about family, church life, your work and such. But talk! It's the hardest thing to do, I know. Get others to talk to him if he wants, not if he doesn't. Sometimes he may just want to watch "Animal Planet" or something. Watch with him! Make his favorite food, or desert, he'll love the fact that you tried! Do your best and you won't regret it or blame yourself later!
