By Spence | July 27, 2009 Today, DC Pro Sports Report continues its analysis of each position on the Redskins in preparation for the start of training camp later this month. We'll analyze each position and predict who will be on the roster at the end of preseason and who will not. We'll also figure out who will be starting and what everyone's roles will be. We began our training camp battles analysis with quarterbacks and then covered tailbacks. Then we went over the fullback position. Last Friday, we covered the tight end position. Now, we turn to wide receivers. On the roster now: Keith Eloi, Marques Hagans, Malcolm Kelly, Marko Mitchell, Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El, Trent Shelton, Devin Thomas, Roydell Williams
|

your link seems to crash my Firefox :(
edit: not sure what happened, but my system got outta whack and needed a reboot: the computer lest anyone be confused ;) |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
DT will step up, Kelly will be seen and is going to be a Red zone touch down maker. Marko Mitchell will play.
|
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
I'm predicting Thomas lines up as the #2 day one of camp and never looks back.

This would be huge for our O |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
yes, it would.
|
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
The position battle is essentially for the 5th WR after Moss, ARE, DT, and Kelly. I'm partial to Marko, but I'd like to see all of them line up and show us what they've got...
As far as DT -- I'm hopeful. Anything Kelly gives us is icing on the cake. |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
Would it not be incredible for some of the kids we drafted last year who did not contribute to step to the plate? I.......believe we will turn some heads this year.....and it has NOTHING to do with my ....status of fanatic

Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
After seeing Keith Eloi jump out of the pool backwards and seeing what a great athlete he is, I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that he will be the surprise player of the summer.

Hopefully you are right on all of these. |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
Kelly will beat out Thomas for the #2
|
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
Kelly will beat out Thomas for the #2
I think this will happen as well.
For what it's worth, the no. 3 WR has a really strong projection in our offense this season in Football Outsiders Almanac. I'm just not convinced that DT will be that guy, although it looks like he's getting first shot (damn you draft position!). |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
Malcolm Kelly is straight gangsta! Standing on the street corner, pouring out some Shirley Temple for his fallen homeys
|
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
If Kelly does beat Thomas out for #2 spot, then Zorn definitely would need to tune up his creativity to get Kelly, Thomas and Moss on the field same time.. Excluding the fact that Fred Davis is in picture, as well..
|
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
Almost a month later I think it's starting to look like Kelly could be moving ahead of Thomas on the depth chart and Mitchell looks good for the #5.
|
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
Yeah. A lot of people wrote off Kelly because he hasn't had a lot of time to practice running his routes, but he's made a larger impact in our two preseason games than DT has. I wouldn't be suprised if Kelly has caught up in his fight with DT for the #2 job and he could surpass him and win it outright if DT doesn't start showing up. Kelly's main thing is his route running but so far he's been catching everything they've thrown his way whereas DT hasn't really shown us a lot.
As for Mitchell I think as long as he continues playing like he has then he will win the #5 job. People say the biggest knack against him is that before we drafted him he never played special teams but Zorn also said that the #5 guy doesn't necessarily have to play special teams. His route running has been good and he's the only guy amongst all those potential roster cuts who has stood out from the rest of the pack. He has good hands as well. |

Of the five players competing for the wide receiver spot, Hackett is the only one who doesn't play special teams, though Mitchell -- who had 153 catches in three years at Nevada -- never did before this camp. Special teams coordinator Danny Smith said Mitchell has a "real long way to go, but he's really made vast improvement." |
Re: Redskins Training Camp Battles: WR
I mean to say people keep saying Mitchell does not play Special Teams. He may not have in the past but he is playing ST's with the Skins. If there is a knock it's that Hackett does not play ST's.
