Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Lavar held that title for awhile. Then came Clinton. So does #26 still hold that distinction or has it finally moved on to another player? I wish i could make this a vote thread. It seems when u mention the Redskins nowadays Campbell's name always comes up. Is he the man? Coach Zorn, who's name is written all over the offense? How about Cooley who has arguably one of the largest fan clubs on the team? Personally i'd prefer it to be a defensive player but i have trouble on the "who" part. So which player (Zorn is an exception) do u think of first when you hear the name Redskins?

Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
I don't think Zorn or Campbell qualify since both are probably gone if the season doesn't meet expectations.
I think it is definitely still Portis although, personally, I think London Fletcher is the team leader. |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
It's still Portis. Cooley comes close though.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
I gotta say CP26.
The defense has great guys/names, but they are great as a unit... Portis has been our offense for a while now & has that name/personality everyone in football recognizes. |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
It won't take long for Fat Albert and Rocky Rackpo to become the face of this team.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
I think possibly Cooley. I don't know about CP, I think some people consider him a bit of a diva. Campbell could become the face of the franchise if he does well this year. The same can be said of Zorn, but we'll just ahve to see.

Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
I think the fact that it's not totally obvious to us tells us that we don't really have a "face of the franchise."
Patriots... Brady. Colts... Manning. Eagles... McNabb. Bears... Urlacher. We don't have a guy who jumps out at you as soon as you hear the team mentioned. |

Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise

|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
I think Landry will soon be the face of our team!!! I have high expectations for him this season!!! For now it's CP
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
In the media it's still Portis.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Today-Portis
February-Campbell :) |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Sean Taylor was and still is for me personally.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Well its definitely still Portis but Cooley and Campbell are definitely up there. Haynesworth could also take a big spot if he is a beast. And of course Sean Taylor will be up there for awhile.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
By mid-season I say Campbell. For now it's Portis.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Now: CP
Future: Edgar Allan Orakpo |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
If you click info on your TV during a Primetime game during the season. It will say "Clinton Portis and the Washington Redskins battle (other teams star player) and the (other team)
Portis by default. As of now he the one on our team that can be relied on for putting asses in the seat. |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Personally I think it has switched from Portis to Cooley.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Am I just senile or am I the first person on this thread to put in a vote for Albert Haynesworth? I mean the thread title is Annointing a new face of the franchise. Who better for that role then our $100 million man.

The only problem with Big Al is he's not media friendly. He's a great player, but he won't talk to the media and he doesn't do anything stupid to get on TV. Great for the team, but he doesn't become famous. |

You got a point there. Though if he has a big season he'll probably be elevated to Reggie White status. As far as the media goes I think Chris Cooley is easily the face of this team. CP was for a while but the one thats really putting himself out there at this point is Chris. Hell at one point I think Jansen was the face of our team especially when he was in the studio for ESPN on draft day (guys going to be an awesome TV personallity). Also it seems that Chill Will was the first one to put out a vote for Haynesworth so I guess that makes me senile. :D |

Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
It's Keith Eloi. End of discussion
Or Chris Cooley |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Pineapple Je5us anyone?
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
It's Keith Eloi. End of discussion
He can jump over the face of every franchise in a single bound.

Speaking of D. Hall and the media. He'll be on Colin Cowherd's show this morning....shameless plug. But I can't see him as the face of the franchise personally. No votes for Zorn? |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
i would say portis, but once this defense starts playing like i think it will, i would bet AH.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
You're all wrong...it's the Red Snapper himself, Ethan Albright! What other "former worst player in Madden" is capable of pulling out a Pro Bowl appearance? He has been perfect in long snaps over the years. You just utter the words "Red Snapper" and other teams tuck tail and run.
Redskins = Red Snapper! |

i gotta disagree here, the other guys listed as "faces of franchises" dont do stupid things to get on tv, they dominate on the field a la brady, manning, urlacher etc. |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
CP is still the MVP...everyone knows him and that by definition makes him the face of ther Redskins. Oh and it helps that he is pernialy among the league leaders in rushing. Love Cooley but people don't know him like they know CP...not yet anyways.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Was CP for about a minute...but now its Cooley
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Yeah, we don't really have one. But if I had to choose, it would definitely be Clinton Portis. He's the most popular guy on our team.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
This is a no brainer Todd Yoder.
|
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
I think Albert Haynesworth will be the face of the team only because of his contract.

Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
This is the type of question that you'd need to ask someone who doesn't follow the Skins. Most of us here read about them all the time, we might follow Cooley's blog, or we read another article about how Campbell is dealing with the past offseason, or hear on the DC Sports Bog all of the new nicknames that Smoot is using, or whatever so we might be skewed one way or the other.
Nationally, I think our FotF is still Portis. The costume thing was a few years ago but people still remember that. He's made the Pro Bowl for us a couple of times and he's still a big fantasy football name, so more people probably see him and associate him with the team. I think that these are the same reasons that Cooley may be poised to take of the title sooner or later. |

Yep. CP and the Cap'n. |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Bored at work so I thought I'd give the face of the franchise for all 32 teams (IMO):
Lions- Calvin Johnson Packers- Aaron Rogers Bears- Brian urlacher Vikings- Adrian Peterson Falcons- Matt Ryan Panthers- Steve Smith Bucs- ...I really don't know off the top of my head... Saints- Drew Brees Seahawks- Matt Hasselback Rams- Steven Jackson Cards- Fitzgerald 49ers- Frank Gore Giants- Eli Manning Cowgirls- Tony Homo Eagles- Donovan McNabb Skins- Clinton Portis Colts- Peyton Manning Titans- Bullocks Texans- Andre Johnson Jags- not so sure.. Steelers- Roethlisberger Browns- Jamal Lewis Bengals- Ochocinco Ravens- Ray Lewis PAts- Tom Brady Fins- Jason Taylor Jets- Sanchez Bills- T.O. Chiefs- Larry Johnson Broncos- Brandon Marshall Raiders- Asonmonga (i know the spelling is all wrong) Chargers- L.T Please, share your thoughts. |

And I don't know of any player other than Cooley who's engaged in a rap battle [YT]Fsal4p6-3Zs[/YT] |
Re: Annointing a new Face of the Franchise
Does anyone suspect that the offensive line problems weren't addressed just so Snyder could get rid of Zorn? Maybe I'm just paranoid.
