Steelers Saturday
Since our first game wasn't what we were expecting. Where should we be as a team getting ready for the Super Bowl Champs.
1.Our starting defense will step on the field as a whole. What do you need to see as a fan that will give you some comfort from last weeks poor outing? 2.Our QB's, what improvements due you feel need to be shown? Steelers D-fense won't be taking any plays off. 3.The run game what questions due you need answered? Are we going to hit in the mouth or are we going to hear the word soft come up again, I'm talking our O-Line and our Backs. 4.Receivering corp. (WR's,TE's and whoever gets the ball thrown to them)will we stretch the field and can we hang on to the ball what do u want to see out there? All Im saying is what do you want to see out there. My questions are vague not very direct take for what you will. I'm just tired of Brett Favre, Mike Vick, Jessica Simpson, I can get peoples opinion about that on Fanhouse. I want to here from Redskin nation. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
We need to take the wisdom of one my coaches years ago when he..........advised. EVERY PLAY...........make...somebody remember you!
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
Offense has to show signs of being able to hold their own vs a top defensive squad. Last week was horrible as a whole.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
It would be nice to see the running game put the Steal-ers on their heels.
I want to see our young receivers significantly contribute. A really big play or two would not hurt. I would like to see our linebackers step it up in coverage and not appear so lost on pass plays. I would like to see Rak pound Big Ben like a wrecking ball. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
if pittsburgh has it's starting defense in they will manhandle our offense just like they did last year. i'd like to see our defense do the same to their offense.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
I just want to see if they can perform better than last year. That means....
Good pickup of blitzes by the OL. Winning the 1-on-1 battles on both sides of the line. Better run blocking. I want to see Big Al in action on D. Orakpo was good last week. Let's see how monstrous duo can really be. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
I want to see how certain guys who really struggled last week respond this week (Davis, Tryon, and Barnes to be specific)
I want to see our kickers attempt some field goals I want to see how Portis looks, even if only for a couple of carries I want to see Colt try to stay in the pocket just a little bit longer before taking off I want to pay a little more attention to what our linebackers are doing (or aren't doing) I want to see if this Smoot at Free Safety experiment has any shot And, of course...Chase Daniel |

So if im getting this right. You want our O-Line to toss them around like ragdolls and our Backs to leave tread marks on them. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
i hope to see tryon bounce back because i have a feeling we might need him in the regular season
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
1.Our starting defense will step on the field as a whole. What do you need to see as a fan that will give you some comfort from last weeks poor outing?
As far as starting, not a lot.. I expect DL to pickup with the addition of Haynesworth playing a bit, would like to see something good come out of the CB unit; is Rogers playing? 2.Our QB's, what improvements due you feel need to be shown? Steelers D-fense won't be taking any plays off. Consistency is key; make those key 2nd and 3rd read passes.. not look at option one then option four in the flat 3.The run game what questions due you need answered? Are we going to hit in the mouth or are we going to hear the word soft come up again, I'm talking our O-Line and our Backs. RBs hitting holes.. and the OL making them 4.Receivering corp. (WR's,TE's and whoever gets the ball thrown to them)will we stretch the field and can we hang on to the ball what do u want to see out there? proper routes, ball control, more stretch the field plays |
Re: Steelers Saturday
I would like to see better performance from everyone than 1st game..
I want to see a little bit more of 1st offense group.. Also, I want to see more of Thomas and Kelly, along with 1st offense group.. I want to see what the coaches did at 1st game, test players individually.. To see what their weakness and strengths are.. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
I'm afraid for us to play the 1st team offense. It might end up a lot like last years regular season Monday night game... I was drunk and the game was over in 1st half.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
aside from all the good posts above, I want to see the game over, everyone healthy, 1 week closer to the regular season.
I also would say, even I want to see all that, I expect to see more of the coaches evaluating individual players. Putting our 2nd's against their 1st's to see if they can man up. Leaving corners isolated, and putting safeties in positions for ints or other risk moves, to see if they can trust them. I expect to see our OLine forced to play above their heads to see if they sink or swim. finally, I expect to be a little discouraged, because as a fan I want to see us brute force them and beat them point for point, but I don't think that is how the coaches are coming in to the game, they want to evaluate evaluate evaluate. The first exam is still 25 days away. <sigh> |
Re: Steelers Saturday
I just want to see an improvement in the offense and the pass defense & no injuries
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
Im going to state what I stated last week b4 our first preseason game...I dont care about the Defense, or Special teams, I just want to see the Offense execute. Bottom line want to see a couple good drives that result in scores with all parts contributing Line, QB, RB and Receivers...anything less than that will be disappointing.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
I want to see more Redskins fans in the stadium, than Steelers fans.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
Absolutely must see:
- NO INJURIES... - No complete breakdowns of units (i.e. O-line looks like they did against Pitt last year or the secondary looked like it did last week) Would strongly like to see: - More effort as a team...show some more passion and game readiness. I'd like to see guys playing on the balls of their feet rather than on their heels - Scoring...not asking for much here, just no goose egg; double digits by first team O would be phenomenal - Turnovers in our favor; A few sacks or tackles for loss by our 1st team D-line Wishlist: - Long play or two from the first team Offense, preferably to one of the sophomores - No Sacks allowed or offensive TO's - Colt working with the second team ahead of Todd Collins...leading a scoring drive - Pick six by Barnes; 50+ yard FG made (and no missed FG's); Hunter the Punter pinning kicks inside the 5 (late in the game); A Jim Zorn Hip-Hip-Hooray |
Re: Steelers Saturday
I'd like to see a couple of deep routes. Can our line pass protect? How doe's Kelly, DT, and Marko Mitchell look going deep? Do they know the routes and can they beat their man? I'd like to see our complete starting "D" on the field for a couple of series.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
I don't know, points?
I'm more worried about what I'm going to eat. There's a race too and Ma-Dukes likes the Steelers. I'm never going to hear the end of this. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
Yeah, some points would be nice. Play JC at least a quarter, maybe even a half. Hell, it's not like we have Tom Brady or something. Although TB did play almost a half right. Coming off of major surgery?
Look our team more than others needs PRACTICE offensively. Real game practice. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
make brennan play with the second team and collins play with the third team to see who does better
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
I would like to point out that they are last season's SB Champs. Calling them the SB Champs is misleading. They do not get an automatic slot in the Playoffs to defend their title just because they won the SB last season. Sorry, I just hate that term SB Champs and Defending SB Champs. They were the SB Champs until August, they aren't the Champs anymore.
As far as what I want to see, I pretty much agree with Rajmahal33. |

Re: Steelers Saturday
real game day effort and indications they are going to be ready to roll come sept.
zorn has taken it easy on the fellas and i think it showed in balt. we cant take it easy and hope things click by the time we face the giants. we need to start coming together as a team now and the only way to do that is to play the 1st team O and D, not this "no portis, moss, AH" crap. \ play the 1st teamers through the 1st quarter. if the O has 2 3nouts by the end of the 1st quarter leave them out there till they start getting things right. things will not magically come together in reg season if zorn doesnt start busting tails aout there. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
rhythm, consistency, some semblance of balance. Would like the offense to spend more than 5 minutes on the field for the whole game.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
So, for all those who have been screaming to work harder, seems like we are starting to see more payoff in the form of injuries. Granted we would see them eventually, but I think that they got 3 solid weeks of TC in before any real injuries were reported (not saying Cooley's back spasm is a "real injury"). I think that's what is most important, making it through TC without losing any one for the season.

Re: Steelers Saturday
JC going through all his progressions and if nothings there Id like to see him make something happen with his feet. He must show that he is playing for a contract and that there is some since of urgency that he wants the team to win,all in what little playing time he gets.
|
Re: Steelers Saturday
It will be interesting to see how our o-line holds up against a good Steelers defense. Fletch has some good things to say after practice.

I've been saying since before we signed him that Fletch's lost a step. I've been really wrong so far, but I worry that any minute now he just won't be the same anymore. I fear Cris Dishman all over again |

Blades has been here and I think he is ready to step in a MLB if needed. |
Re: Steelers Saturday
Maybe I'm too pessimistic but I think Dan and Vinny have set Zorn and Campbell up for failure on offense. Pittsburgh after the Ravens is hard to swallow, but we need to look extremely good on offense or else we're looking at a very poor season. And that's what Snyder wants so he can fire Zorn and get rid of Campbell. I hope I'm wrong about this.

Really, I just don't get it. We have to look good - in preseason - on offense against last years number 1 and 2 D's or we are going to have a real poor season, when the only tough D's we play in the regular season are our division(not the AFC West, maybe Carolina and the Saints, not StL or Detroit). If we hold our own, I mean no mental mistakes, JC not being sacked all through the first half, and we can move even a little bit then I would say the season looks good. But, it's silly to pound my head against this mentality of "Performance Now". The win - loss in this game doesn't matter, what matters is do the coaches and player get closer to being on the same page. I firmly believe, if a good coach knows exactly what his players can do, and if 53 players all know exactly what is expected of them, then they can come out and beat ANY team in the NFL. I think that's the key to preseason. We will see if they figure it out. Of course we could always see a Spurrier moment where Zorn plays his starters well into the 3rd quarter, and blows out the Steelers. At least we would all feel good. |

You have got to be effin kidding me. You obviously can't believe this.....can you? |
Re: Steelers Saturday
I want to see the first team offense stay in the game until they score. I don't care if they leave them in until the Steelers fourth defense is in. After that, I could care less what else happens other than no injuries, good special teams play.

I agree! |
Re: Steelers Saturday
1. I want to see no major injuries.
2. I want to see at least one good scoring driving from the first string offensive line. It doesn't matter if it's a field goal or touchdown. I just want to see a sustained drive. 3. I would like to see better production on special teams. I think there is a great opportunity for someone to win the punt returner responsibilities. The punter looked good in the first game, continue the good work. Didn't get a chance to see the placekicker. 4. I want to see the offensive line keep all the quarterbacks upright. I couple of nice runs would be satisfying. 5. I want to see better coverage in the secondary. I thought the coverage was poor. Tryon and Barnes particularly have to improve. 6. I want to see Malcolm Kelly or Devin Thomas work with the first string offense in a three wide receiver sets. Number 80, can't recall his name, didn't impress me. 7. The defensive line is looking like the strength of the team. They are getting to the passer, but I would like to see them wrap up the quarterback better. 8. I want to see Zorn punch an assistant coach in the face! :) |

Your crazy. Dan wants to win more than any of us. He brought Dockery back, if they fail its there fault. We have Cooley,Portis,Moss those 3 alone can take over a game.We must find some way to hit on all 8-cylinders. Theres enough players here that have the skill, but can they show them when it counts. |
