Who will make the cut?
 

After watching last nights game (atleast we won) I noticed that our back up qb situation is a problem... If colt doesn't play better soon he may get the ax!! Chase looked damn good 6-8 2 tds , and of course Collins is old so who stays and who goes ?

I think Chase will still ultimately be on the practice squad, unless something drastically changes.

I still hope that Colt makes the team, and I think that Dorsey is better than Rock Cartwright. Randel El could get the ax aswell. Marko Mitchell should make the team.

i think if we put him on the practice squad some team will sign him to there active roster as there 3rd string QB.

I think it will take more than 1 good game from Chase to beat out CB. yeah he had a pick but other than that he did well on the drive until the bad play at the end trying to make something happen.

I think we should try to develop both of them at least for one more year. And the best way to do that most likely is to put Colt at #3 and Chase on the PS. Unless, either can prove that Collins is expendable. But I would find it a bit ironic if we give up on Colt after two preseasons when we have (rightfully) showed patience with Campbell.

Of course, no matter what happens I'm still the Crew Chief of the Caravan of Chase, the Archbishop of the Church of Chase, the Chief Justice of the Court of Chase

eloi (sp) did not look good returning kicks and has showed very little as a wr, he will not make the team.

let's fake an injury on chase, put him on IR and develope him that way.
Or just cut collins. Cause he looks slow, doesn't fit the WC offense, costs more than either Brennan or Daniels, and is just an int waiting to happen. I think if Campbell were to go down, then we're screwed, but we should put in a fresh legs quick young player, than an old slow vet, who attracts sacks left and right.

I don't think it's time to panic about Jason Campbell going 1-of-7 for 10 yards in a 17-13 preseason win over the Steelers. But it's important that Campbell finds a rhythm in the third preseason game -- and he knows that.

Campbell missed Malcolm Kelly on a deep ball and he was high on a throw to Santana Moss. I think he was pressing a bit because he knew he was only going to play three series. The good news is that Washington's running game looked strong throughout the game. OK, here are a few things that caught my eye:

•Brian Orakpo has been sensational through two preseason games. I enjoyed watching him playing with the backups in the second quarter. At that point, he was obviously the best player on the field and he even looked solid in coverage. Orakpo embarrassed his former college teammate at Texas, Tony Hills, in the second quarter. Orakpo used a bull rush to push Hills back in the pocket. He knocked Hills about 3 feet into the air.
•Jim Zorn made it sound like Campbell had a nice evening. Zorn praised Campbell for his decision making and thought he managed the team well. Obviously Zorn want to make sure Campbell's confidence level remains high. Campbell put on a brave face for reporters after the game, but I assure you he's beating himself up over the six incompletions.
•How can you keep Marcus Mason or Marko Mitchell off this roster? Mason's one of the best preseason backs this organization has had. On Saturday, he showed the speed we've grown accustomed to seeing, but he also mixed in some power. He sent a Steelers safety flying at the end of one play. Mitchell made the nice touchdown catch from Chase Daniel. He hesitated at first in order to give Daniel some space to throw the ball. Then Mitchell simply won a jump ball. The former Nevada receiver might end up being the fifth receiver.

•I still think Devin Thomas will make some mental errors, but he's capable of making big plays. I liked the twisting catch he made Saturday night. He has all the tools, but he needs every rep in the preseason he can get.

•Scary moment in the first half when fullback Mike Sellers was writhing in pain with a knee injury. The good news is that Sellers only has a bruised knee. He's such a vital part of the Redskins' running game. They would really struggle without him.

•Reed Doughty was everywhere . I pretty much wrote the guy off last season, but he's actually had a solid camp. He made a couple of open-field tackles that were very impressive and he looked confident in the secondary.

•Is it too early to start worrying about the Skins' awful coverage units? They looked especially bad in punt coverage. They didn't have anything close to containment on the edges.

•I used to watch Redskins safety Lendy Holmes when he was in high school. The former Oklahoma Sooner was one of the surest tacklers on the field Saturday. A lot of rookies look a little wide-eyed at this point. That's not the way Holmes operates.

•I love the fact that safety Kareem Moore is a high-energy guy, but he needs to play under control. It seems like Moore's constantly going for the interception. Moore and another '08 draft pick, Rob Jackson, have a tendency to overrun plays.

•I'd cut D.J. Hackett the first chance I had. It's not that I think he's a bad player, but right now, he's simply taking up space. I'd much rather see Mitchell, Thomas and Kelly getting the majority of the reps.

•Daniel had a really effective outing. I think he has the edge on Colt Brennan at this point. And yes, I know that hurts at lot of you guys.

•On the interception that Todd Collins threw, Thomas needs to come back for the ball. He sort of froze on his comeback route, and that allowed former Colts cornerback Keiwan Ratliff to make a really nice play on the ball.

•If you're Brennan, you can't throw the ball into traffic in the red zone. I'm sure Zorn was incensed with that turnover. Just an awful decision by Brennan.

•Kelly does a really nice job of catching the ball away from his body. He did some nice things in Saturday's game, but the best thing he does is catch the ball consistently. Thomas might have the most upside, but Kelly's showing the most maturity right now.

•Former CFL star Dominique Dorsey has to make this team as a return specialist. And he's halfway home. He had some outstanding returns. The Skins need to reserve a spot on the roster for him. He's that good as a return guy -- and he runs with a little power.

Agreed. Chase had a good game but I doubt they're ready to let Colt go at this point. It would be nice if, as SmootSmack said, they could make Collins expendable because I would like to see both given some more time before releasing either one. Chase could be put on the PS if there is no other choice but there is a risk he'll be picked up. It's really too soon to make any decisions IMO. After the next 2 games, the decisions may become clearer. I think Zorn would have to see a lot in the 2 young QB's to release Collins but that would be a good sign for our team and our future at QB.

I think the toughest cuts are going to come on the defensive side of the ball.

Im really pulling for Lendy Holmes the back-up safety.

Cutting Collins will save some money if done in the right way but he has done something that none of these guys have, won real games for us. Yes he's old and can't really run, but I would rather have him than either one of those two for this year. I'd like to give him a whole season but that's not happening. Taking the team to the playoffs if huge in my book. He and Charlie Batch are career bench warmers but they can both get the job done.

It was good to see Soup throw the long ball. Even if they don't catch it the other D has to say,"what if?"

Why don't they let Mason return kicks or punts?

I like Reed Doughty.

I think Marko Mitchell might be another good seventh round pick.

Greg Blache lit into the first team D. When they get things right we'll be monsters. We did get held on almost every single play! That can't be bad.

I don't see Wynn making this team.

Collins and Daniel are looking better than Campbell and Brennan right now. Some will argue it's who they are competing against, but what I see is their decisiveness. They know where they're going with the ball, and they make their reads really quickly and get rid of it. To me, that's the major difference and why they can actually put drives together.

Sounds like Colt is definitely kicking himself in the a** right now. Pick it up and move on son. Chase seems to be just taking things in stride.

CB had a nice drive until the pick. bad decision but he did move them down the field. He just has to learn to throw it away if its not there and take the 3. But thats the bad that comes with the QB's who have that gunslinger mindset. they make a great throw on one play and leave you shaking your head on the next.

Chase understands that it was just one game. he wont go and get all cocky when there is a ways to go before the cuts are made. Anything can happen from this point.

I bet that Campbell is sweating right now. To see two rookies out playing you has to be demoralizing to Campbell. Campbell does have time to prove all wrong byt that time is running out.

Is Colt eligable for the PS? I know he made the 53 last year but I was under the impression that so long as you didn't dress and were in one of your first three years that you could still be eligible.

Yeah I don't remember exactly, but I think since Colt was on the inactive list for 8 or more games last season (I think) he's eligible for the PS.

Not sure they needed to bring the house on Batch in those 2 third and longs he converted. If our line is that good, we should be able to get enough pressure from the front 4 and leave guys in coverage. Maybe he wanted to see what the CBs could do, but they got burned both times. Also looked like the pass rushers were getting in each other's way, especially Landry.

Agreed. Much as I like what Chase has done, I think Colt is the more likely of the two to be picked up by another team

I believe you have to be active for 9 games in a year to lose PS squad eligibility.

What if Chase has another big game!!! Colt and Chase need to be developed. It is a tough choice. If Chase does it again, I say Colt is PS material. This is Colt's 2nd preseason and he should be getting better not regressing.
Pre-season does not mean much but the pre-season is the time to help depth for the future!
I would love to see Mason and Marko make the team!

I'll eat some crow, all the RB's looked good. However I still like Mason and felt he had a good showing again last night even if it was against 2nd stringers. He makes good decisions and actually ran over some people last night.

Colt or Chase, Chase or Colt. I like both. Chase made two good drives down the field. Quick reads quick release. Decisive. Colt had a good drive going eating up the clock. The only thing ya have to keep in mind is Colt is very (very) similar to Bret Favre. He throws sideways, he takes chances with the ball, and will more then likely have more interceptions. Colt has a little more going for him cause he understands the play book better most likely but Chase looked better. My choice, I'd get rid of Collins and majorly coach up the two young guys.

The interception on Collins was Thomas's fault. He needs to always be looking for the ball.

Bye bye Hackett, Hagens and Shelton. Mitchell looks to be the real deal and adds the hight we need. He'll be gone if put on the PS. Eloi, Eloi, Eloi, I like him but he's killing me right now. He's definitly not a KR or it was our blocking that sucked or both. Because of this I would make Mitchell the #5 and put Eloi on the PS to either get better or until someone better comes along.

Tryon= gone. Westbrook actually impressed me last night otherwise I would say...gone. Barnes I hope shows better in the next two games otherwise he's either PS or gone.

[B]RB:[/B] Portis, Mason, Dorsey. Personal feeling included. between Mason or Dorsey....Dorsey. we need a speed back plus he looked awsome.

[B]TE:[/B] Cooley, Davis, Agnone.
[B]CB:[/B] Hall, Rogers, Smoot, Horton, ???? As good as Westbrook looked maybe keep and put Barnes on PS.

Just a few of my picks so far. Batiste looked horrible. Let him go and keep it Heyer, Bridges and Williams.

There's only one rookie QB on the team.

I don't think JC is sweating what the younger guys do. Different circumstances and situations.

LOL Slow down chief, JC is our guy atleast until wk 9 or 10, but I personally think he will have a good yr and leads us to a WC game..

JC is not my guy I almost threw my remote through the TV when we drafted him.. We would be better off bring back Mark Rypien..

I don't think he was any of ours either. If I remember correctly the team went out to see Carlos Rogers (I think) and someone pointed out Campbell to the team as well. I think it kinda supprised all of us that the team went and picked him. Now we have him. Atleast for this last yr. He either shines and gets paid for it, or he flops and gets let go. In order for the Skins to make the play offs or even think SB then ya kinda have to root that Campbell does well cause the team is not going to simply cut him now.

Now you could always hope for an injury but then your dealing with Collins.
