The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
Fill in the blank. How many points do you expect to see. Is less than 14 points a failure? How about 10?
|
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
score an offensive touchdown
apply pressure on Brady run effectively complete a pass longer than ten yards with our first team offense |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
I want Campbell to lead at least two scoring drives, including one touchdown
And I'd like to see us get a turnover or two as well |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
10 points by the half would be nice, and just a solid showing overall.
|
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
1) 10 points by first team offense
2) Solid D performance to include our secondary not getting torched by Brady and QB pressures 3)A Deep completion to either thomas or kelly |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
Campbell again shows his inaccuracy on his intermediate throws. It will also be a failure if we don't move the ball again. I believe the defense will show up but you can not expect them to be on the field the whole game though if the offense sputters. I just don't see Campbell being successful tonight against the Pats. There is a reason that Kyle Boller (Kyle Boller!!!!!!) looks better than Campbell in a west coast offense. He is being setup for failure. I'm sorry guys I'm just frustrated.

Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
Failure is a strong word. That is a different context than "like to see.."
I'd like to see the first team O score at least 10-14 points. I'd like to see the first team D get at least two turnovers. I'd like to see the scrubs perform well. But failure? True failure cannot happen until Sept. 13. This game can only be a failure to me if we suffer a terrible injury or two. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if:
(1) The offense fails to show signs of life (i.e., a few decent drives and at least 10 points); or (2) We lose a key player to injury. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
Injuries, especially the offensive line.
If we lose, I won't worry, but if we lose any key guys...that could be another story. Portis will be steamrolling people come Week 1 regardless of how he looks in the preseason. I also believe the playbook will be opened up a bit in the passing game, so Campbell will take more shots down the field. He has so many targets this season, unlike in any prior year. 5 solid WRs, 2 TEs, Portis/Betts...our offense looks deep this season. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
First team can't score a TD.
|
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
we need to score. pre season or not. they have to get some confidence that this thing is going to work. and of course, no injuries
|

Points are irrelevant, even with first team in there. I'd rather have 7-9 first downs in our first two drives than a TD. |

Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
First and foremost no injuries. I still only want CP to play one or two series, same with Samuels. It would be a complete failure if CP, Samuels, or Haynesworth has a season ending injury.
It would be nice to see our special teams play effectively in all facets. It would be nice to see our D stop 3 and medium to longs and get off the field Our offense is what it is, and we will not see what it can be until the first or maybe second game of the season. And no matter what it does tonight, it will be too little for a lot of people on this board. With all that, I don't want to see the same type of game we saw against Carolina in last year's "big game". |

With all the same players in all the same roles, I just dont see the O being any different this year than last. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
It will be a failure if there are any injuries. Agreed with some of you before me. Winning is irrelevant. I believe all of Joe Gibbs' super bowl teams lost a majority of their preseason games.

I'm not that concerned if our offense is moving the ball that well (7-9 first downs) against a good defense. Also if we can move the ball that well TD's and points will come. Our offense though will simply not come that far in just one game. Points, to me, are still irrelevant. Our offense needs to prove it can build long sustaining drives and keep our defense resting off the field. That is what I'll need to see tonight. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
I can't believe how many people here will be satisfied with 10 points out of the starting offense. I guess we've become conditioned to expect such mediocrity out of our offense. I thought I heard most of the starters are going play three quarters, and it's a home game. 10 points in 3 quarters isn't going to win you too many ball games.
If we don't see at least a couple of of TDs, (I'd like to see 3 scoring drives at a minimum) I'm going to be really concerned that our offense is nothing more than the stumbling wreck it was during the second half of 2008. |

They cant wait until week 7 to start scoring points, they gotta be ready to go on week 1 and that readiness starts in preseason. |

Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
I would say the Injury things that most others have mentioned.
Other than that it would be dissappointing if we dont score more than 1 TD but not a failure. It would also be dissappointing if the kick coverage teams aren't a little better. I would really like to see a turnover early in the game. Perhaps right after a long drive that ended in points. |

I meant 10-14 points by the half, too, which would be 20-28 for a whole game. I thought the starters would play only about a half. |

McNabb played into the 3rd quarter in yesterday's game. We could do that too if Zorn caves to the fan pressure of wanting Campbell to do something no matter how long it takes. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
Jason Campbell continues to look like a deer caught in headlights..

Agreed. While I definitely want to see a good showing by the first team offense, I want no injuries. |

Seriously. Remember last year the Skins got smoked in the 3rd preseason game by the Panthers, and that didn't seem to hurt them in the 6-2 start, and what did it have to do with the 2-6 finish for that matter? Nothing. How they look tonight will not make or break the season. If it makes you feel better if they trounce the Patriots, that's great. But it's not going to mean squat once week 1 rolls around and everyone's record resets to 0-0 and the real games begin. |

actually, I think 9 points would be the best of both worlds. We'd get to see the O in scoring position, and we'd get to see the kicking game. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
Let's also remember we're playing the Patriots. They're pretty damn good

Where do they stand for points given up? |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
Where do they stand for points given up?
Actually, they are decent there. They are 14th giving up only 16 points per game.

Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
If the Patriots offense moves the ball at will in the first half I will be very frustrated.
Any major injury to a key player. |

But let's be real- lack of offense buried our season last year. It needs to better this season and thus far we've seen no indications that it will be. This is the most important preseason test, and it will be disappointing if we don't move the ball and score a few times. I wonder how dismissive you guys would be about the preseason if we were lighting up the scoreboard..... |

Thats what I figured. Good teams Ds dont give up points and the O scores points. Bad teams focus on yards and percentages which is why I suspect they are bad teams.. |

That's a great point. Zorn has a corny phrase for it and I'm a firm believer of the practice...stay medium. Or as I like to say it...Don't let the highs get too high or the lows get too low. Life is all about having a homeostatic balance. |
Re: The redskins performance tonight will be considered a failure if....
If we see Hunter Smith more than 2 times in the first half
