Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
I say yes. He is an outstanding return man. He was 7th in the NFL last year in PR average when he was with Carolina.
He was signed by Tennessee in the offseason but was hurt until the last preseason game. In that game, he broke a punt return for 21 yards and a kickoff return for 44 yards but it was too late for him to make the team. We need that type of production in the return game. I say we should sign him. |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
And who do we cut to make room?

We have enough players who can play multiple positions to make room. I would say we could carry one fewer DE because both SLB's, Brian Orakpo and Chris Wilson, can play DE as needed. |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
I'd bring him in for a tryout as a return guy, what's his main position though? if he could backup running back as well I'd take him over Alridge or Dorsey. Neither stood out and Alridge has a mean case of fumbilitis.

Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
We should try somebody new this year returning the football but i wouldnt bring anybody in. We have to have somebody that can fill that role.

Rock? Oh sorry I forgot this is ROCKTheWarpath. LOL. JK, JK ....just having fun. but seriously if we are going to pick up one return specialist off of wavers then it's only resonable we let the one go who he's replacing. Just saying. I just want to point out though Rock is rated #23 against all KR's for averaging 25.6 yrds per KR. The only bright spot is Jones can take it to the house and is an actual threat to do it on any given KR. |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
I don't know this guy, and yes it is the chiefs who cut him, but he started all 16 games last year, and is a 10 yr vet:

Seriously, you'd take some guy off the street (whose position you do not even know) who just got cut over guys that you have had at Redskins Park for months. And you'd bring him on as a 6th WR (as a guy who has two passes in five NFL seasons). But he is a great return man right? Well he had 400 fewer kick return yards than Rock Cartwright last year (and a lower return average) and zero career punt return TDs. He had a better average than Randle El returning punts, yay! These "pick up this scrub?" threads are always head scratchers, but this one might take the cake. |

We already cut Cartwright to keep Jones, who loses their spot so we can have a KR and 3rd RB? Or do we cut Marko to make room for Jones as the 5th WR/KR? |

so I guess that would you would vote no on starting a new thread for each guy released. |

But great point (reality notwithstanding). |

Solid veteran, who probably got let go more because it was a regime change than anything else. Still, at 32 he's no spring chicken. In a reserve role, might not be a bad option |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
In Anthony Aldridge we trust!

Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
Ok, didn't know this thread was rolling as fast as it was. Also didn't realize Jones was a WR ...I assumed he was a RB since people like their KR's to be RB's. As for Jones not being utilized as a WR and for the most part as a KR, why are you guys complaining? Rock is a RB who is not utilized as a RB. No different. Maybe we simply cut Rock and keep Jones. The team was looking to keep 5 RB's not including Sellers. Portis, Betts, Rock, and most likely 2 of the last 3 RB's Mason, and either Alridge or Dorsey.
As for my 25.6 yrds per KR..... NFL Stats: by Player Position I stand corrected, he was tied for 22nd. |

I'll just say you're not very polite because that's nicer than telling you to kiss my ass. |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
He was like 6th or 7th in total yrds, but looking at average yrds per KR he was only 22 among all KR's.

BUT, we could still keep 4 RB (including AA or GD as the 3rd tailback), 5 WR's and a dedicated KR/ST. If so, and as D. Smith pointed out, that player has to do more than just return kicks. But, yea, they probably could reserve a spot just for that without changing the position dynamic to much. |

Could be a spot-starter. But maybe someone better appears in the next 24 hours. |

I think we all know how this works....if DS, Cerrato, or Zorn wanted any certain person on the team and someone had to be cut to keep their player I'm sure D.Smith would find someone else on the team to use to get the job done. I'm sure he has a say but ultimatly we know if the front office or Zorn is high on someone their staying. |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
Cartwright is solid. Returns will improve this year anyway with the rule changes. No wedges.

There are seven people on that list who have one kickoff return. So they returned one kick for more than 26 yards and they are ahead of Cartwright on that list. If you filter the list of running backs in the same way than Adrian Peterson was 35th in the league in yards per carry last year. The great Montell Owens completely owned him with 21.5 yards per carry. |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
When it comes to cuts, the only position they should be considering is OLB or OT
|
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
No thanks. No room, I don't see any upgrade vs. using the unknown RB that we might just keep (Aldridge, Mason, Dorsey...pick one) or a WR like Tana/ Kelly (Hopefully ARE will be much improved this season, I do EXPECT IT) doing the same work.
I don't see a move like this taking place or for that matter with the pieces we have making a whole lotta sense. |
Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
Who Mark Jones? Who Mark Jones? No really who is Mark Jones?

Re: Mark Jones cut by Titans. Pick him up?
Khary Campbell was released by the Texans. Any thoughts?
