2009 Practice squad
Looks like five have been signed that leaves a few more spots. No Chase yet...of my gosh. What is this club thinking about..lol
Posted at 3:30 PM ET, 09/ 6/2009 Five for the Practice Squad Safety Lendy Holmes, defensive end Rob Jackson, wide receiver Trent Shelton, defensive end J.D. Skolnitsky and fullback Eddie Williams have been named to the Redskins' practice squad. Antonio Dixon, cut yesterday by the team, has been picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
I'm fine with that. Holmes played well, we'll need Eddie Williams if something happens to Sellers, and Shelton and Jackson have upside. Don't know about Skolnitsky.

Wynn over Dixon. Redskins blew that call! He's now an E-girl!

Re: 2009 Practice squad
Chase signed with New Orleans. This from a Jason LaCanfora tweet.

Figured that was coming, oh well. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
I live in LA and the Saint fans around me arent too thrilled. I guess they liked harrington. oh well
|
Re: 2009 Practice squad
That turd is not gonna be a Drew Brees. I do prefer him over Colt, however.
|
Re: 2009 Practice squad
I thought Dixon did enough to make the roster but I think he was the victim of a crowded depth chart. I'm just disappointed the Eagles snatched him up because I would've loved to have him on the practice squad. Sucks about Daniel going to NO too but that's the biz for ya.

Re: 2009 Practice squad
LaCanfora: Cody Glenn to Indy's PS.

Re: 2009 Practice squad
Anybody know if AAlridge and/or Eloi are PS candidates?
|
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Dixon should of been on this team...same with chase and aldrige but noo we got to keep wynn and batiste and Westbrook and tryon
|
Re: 2009 Practice squad

I heard the Jets acquired O' Connell from Lions for intell on Pats |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Makes sense. Remember when we played the Giants and supposedly Lavar Arrington was giving them all our plays.

Cody Glenn signed by Colts

agreed, that was very disappointing, had we kept him we'd definitely be working on a solid line for the future.. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Two more spots to fill.
Posted at 5:48 PM ET, 09/ 6/2009 Skins Sign Woodson to Practice Squad The Redskins have opted to try to sign a bigger quarterback, Kentucky's Andre Woodson, to their practice squad, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Woodson, 25, was a sixth-round draft pick by the New York Giants in 2008. Among his achievements at Kentucky, Woodson, at 6-4, broke the NCAA record of 271 passes (set by Trent Dilfer) without an interception in September 2007. He extended that streak to 325 attempts before it was broken. In the Music City Bowl, he broke the SEC record for passing touchdowns in a season; he eclipsed Danny Wuerffel's record of 39 by one. Earlier, Chase Daniel, generously listed at 6 feet tall, was signed to the New Orleans Saints' practice squad. This leaves the Redskins with two open practice squad slots after they signed Lendy Holmes, J.D. Skolnitsky, Eddie Williams, Trent Shelton and Rob Jackson. Two other players who were cut Saturday by the Redskins found practice squad spots with other teams: Cody Glenn in Indianapolis and Antonio Dixon in Philadelphia. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Everyone's pretty steamed about Wynn over Dixon, but I think Wynn is there as a better run-stopper. Dixon showed some flashes, but as a backup to Daniels, Wynn seems a better fit.
To bad Dixon couldn't make the PS, but that's the price of actually having a little depth! |

But being at both pre-season games and of course watching the other two on TV. Wynn did not look good to me at all. I was really surprised in his lack of production, he looked old, underpowered, and ready for the booth. Dixon, could have been a good project. At the end of the day, I'm surprised RW made the team. I didn't think that would have been a surprise cut, just a guy that couldn't cut it. Also, I hope he doesn't have to relieve Daniels to often. I hope Daniels stays healthy. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Last 3 added:
Redskins add 3 more to practice squad. LB Darrel Young, WR Onrea Jones, QB Andre Woodson (last with NY Giants, this week's opponent). Hmmm.
so the practice squad has 1 QB 1 FB 2 WR 1 S 2 DL 1 LB noticeably - not one OL player. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Dixon flashed but, we already have an high effort player in Alexander who plays teams and OL. Daniel wants the best opportunity to start and there was less likely he was going to beat out Collins for the number two spot.
I was pleased with what I saw from Wilson. He wasn't in coverage much but rushed the passer and played the run very well. So maybe Glenn wasn't needed. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
can anyone on this site tell me why we haven't/didn't sign Aldrige or Dorsey to the PS or where are they?

Alridge is fumbling somewhere. I wish we had kept Dorsey instead of Mason. Oh well. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Darn. Why do the Patriots get rid of their 29yo DTs, and we hold onto our 35 year olds like they were gold? I liked Dixon. It would have been nice to develop a young D-line with Orakpo/Jarmon/Dixon for years to come. Wynn (35) & Daniels (36) are only good for one-year at most, and Griffin is 32-33. At least Dixon is young and has potential. Too bad.
I hope Dixon sucks with the Eagles, otherwise I'd feel even worse. Wouldn't have minded if he went to the Raiders or someone else... |

You are absolutely right, didn't think about that. |

Oh well.
ya, same..but the thing is that whether we had one or the other, we have to sit 8 guys anyway, so you know they'd be sitting more than playing. I think that's the dumbest thing in the NFL is only having 53 players on a roster but playing 45 of them. SO DUMB. |

We still have younger guys like Golston, Montgomery, Alexander, Jarmon, and Orakpo. There are guys like Dixon all over the place. Not a huge loss to me. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
Look, I hate our practice squad. I feel like we have let a pro bowler in Dixon go. The only thing that makes me feel better is that since I have started following the Skins roster, I have fallen in love with many practice squaders. First it was Joe Skyes, then it was Alex buzbee and Devin Clark. I was sure that Devin Clark ws going to be a super star. Well, so far none of them have been worth a dam. So I can take solace in that.

Re: 2009 Practice squad
Hey, does anyone know if they plan to give ARE any QB snaps in practice due to loss of 2 Qbs in a game?...I wouldn't be suprised if he could hold his own for half a game. (based on his pro QB numbers)
I highly doubt they'd activate this new practice squad QB under any circumstances |

A Pro Bowler? Really? Dude was an undrafted FA who didn't even start in college. Not saying it couldn't happen but right now I think it's a small possibility he even becomes a starter let alone a Pro Bowler. We're pretty deep at DT. That's a good thing. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
I can't figure out if all this Dixon love is some kind of inside joke I am not aware of or if it's just a bunch of wasted energy?
|
Re: 2009 Practice squad
I'd b more worried about Dixon giving away our defensive plays to the eagles than him becoming a pro bowler
|

We have like 15 total defensive plays. |
Re: 2009 Practice squad
umm..no we also have signals check downs and all that stuff...we definitley have more than 15 defensive plays
|

Agreed. People are acting as though we cut Albert Haynesworth or Orakpo. |

Yeah I know. The Buddy Ryan, Gregg Williams, Greg Blache philosophy is pretty basic even if you use twenty packages to implement it. It's the attack first, hunt for any weakness in pass protection, leave the corners and anyone else responsible for coverage on an island system. Problem is you still have to be really good at "reading tells" as the coach and the unit has to be very high in "football IQ" to pull it off. And of course it helps to have a bunch of nasty ass kicking freaks and I think we just might have that. |
