Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
I'm just thinking ... as the game is about to kick off tonight..
Why exactly are the Tennessee Titans a legit contender and we are a joke when someone picks us for the playoffs? What do they have a QB? at WR? Is there defensive players better than ours? Is it a coach thing? An organization thing? When I look at their roster, then at ours, I just am puzzled... |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
I believe it may be because we play in the NFC Beast? I'm not saying the AFC South is a cakewalk, but the Colts are no longer invincible, the Jags have been up and down, and the Texans, while I loves me some Andre Johnson on fantasy football, aren't really a legit challenger for anything right now.

Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
Everyone knows that the Cowboys are going to sweep the NFC so there's no need discussing it.
|
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
Personally I don't care that we don't get hyped up or anything like that. The last tine that happened (when Saunders came) we went 6-10.

Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
I guess I could have worded my post differently. but what I'm asking is for real, not sarcastic...
What separates the Titans from us? Is it talent?? I don't see how they have more talent.... I'm thinking it's that they play defense & can run... proves QBs need to just manage games (K. Collins) & you don't need good receivers )J. Gage #1 receiver) to win... but then I think, that sounds like us... so what the hell!!?!? lol |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
I think its because we havnt done anything lately to put us on the radar...We are under the radar! We will not be predicted to win until we show the masses the we are contenders. We tend to see the Skins through rose colored glasses..even the most jaded skins fans still believe that our day is just around the corner.....Most non-skin fans see JC and Snyder (and a few others) as people that will keep us from being competitive. Talking to non-skin fans, I get the impression that other NFL fans view the Skins as if they are not even in the same league as the rest of the teams. We are not even consisdered among other fans as potential contenders...we are not even on the map. We only exist in our own minds...Take a look at other message boards...We are thought of in the same light as the Lions, Bengals etc...Skins fans suffer from the same delusion as our front office....Our front office including management are looking through the same rose colored glasses that us fans are...However the rest of the world looks through different lenses and they do not see what we see..so until we prove to the world that we are any different...get used to being viewed as NON-CONTENDERS

By the way, the Raiders are a a laughing stock...we're miles from that.
|
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
Organizationally, the Titans are much, much stronger than us.
Under Floyd Reese though, they weren't much better than we are now under Cerrato. Mike Reinfelt took over and he's been able to stay on the same page as Jeff Fisher and the results have been impressive. With that said, our roster is stronger than their roster this year. |

Those are Burgandy colored glasses my friend! The difference is Jeff Fisher has proved that he is a top notch coach. Their trip to the big dance a couple years ago bears that out. They will continue to be respected, all because Fisher knows how to coach, and the organization has .......... well, some organization. The Burgandy and Gold have an 8-8 2nd year HC. |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
13-3, 8-8.
you have to earn respect. we will this year! |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
The Titans are for real. They were 13-3 for one thing. They were one of the few teams that really abused the Steelers last year.
Their two running backs, Chris Johnson and Lendale White combined for over 2000 rushing yards, Kerry Collins was a Pro Bowler, and they have a really talented O-line which also sent two players to the Pro Bowl. They had the #7 overall defense, 2nd in the league in scoring allowed, 5th in the league in sacks, and a plus 14 turnover ratio. On top of all that, Jeff Fisher is a world class head coach. Right now, they're way ahead of us as an organization. |

Personally, I'm not really on board with the whole NFC "Beast" thing. Dallas is very suspect, and we're just mediocre right now. Philly could make a case for themselves, and the Giants are right there with them, but have some flaws here and there. I actually think the NFC North might be the best division. Chicago, Minnesota and Green Bay are better than the top three in our division. |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
cowboys sweep? what are you smoking? we are better than the giants.
it will prob. end up like this Iggles REDSKINS! New Jersey Gnats DallASS Cowgirls/homos |

And what have this teams done lately? Any of those against the NFC teams would lose right now. |
And what have this teams done lately? Any of those against the NFC teams would lose right now.
That's my projection for the NFC North this year, for what it's worth. Minnesota has been knocking on the door for a couple of years now, and Favre just might take them to the next level. In Chicago, Cutler makes them much better. Green Bay should be improved. For all the talk of the NFC "Beast", we were ultimately tied with the AFC East and South in total wins, and the NFC South had the most wins with 40. I just don't think the Cowboys and Giants will be as good this year. I know we all love to think we have the best, toughest division. It wasn't true last year, and I don't see how it's going to be true this year either. |

Don't know about that. The AFC is always the favorite to win the Super Bowl and the Titans man-handled the Steelers last year. The Skins are lucky to be in the NFC, regardless of how tough the NFC East is. |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
Coaching and line play. Any team that can protect their QB, open holes for the running game and get to the other team's QB is good team. Flashy RBs, WRs, CBs, etc. aren't necessary to win. Look at who the Pats had at WR and RB when they won their 3 titles, and the Steelers WRs are good, but they aren't Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, Larry Fitz, Boldin, Wayne, Jennings, etc. And they got by with their #3RB last year.
Coaching and line play. |

Except when there's wild speculation on a ridiculous free agent signing. Then, it's always Dan Snyder and Al Davis who come up. |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
One more thing. The Titans draft players like Haynesworth while we pay through the nose for them. They got equal or better production from Haynesworth than we will get from him for a fraction of the price.

They're better on the o and d lines, they had better rb's, qb, lb's and probably a better secondary....better special teams and they're better coached. They clearly outplayed Balt in the playoffs but lost cause of stupid turnovers. They play in a small market so you don't hear of some of their players. We'll see how it shakes out this year. |

i don't go that definite, but they were 13-3 last year, this year they are 0-1 |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
The Titans defense was very unimpressive. The Titans offensive line was very unimpressive, though given the opponent, could have been worse. I thought Kerry Collins played reasonably well, and they have some good receivers there, and a smart offensive scheme. But it's hard for me to see that team going anywhere this year.
They'll be able to run on some teams, in which case, they'll put up offense. |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
Steelers are in big trouble if they don't have Polamalu for awhile. Ryan Clark can be a No. 1 safety, but Tyrone Carter can't be a No. 2.

You have tons of money being loosened up by Snyder and really not much accountability in terms of player performance. We have wasted a ton of cap space in getting these fat cat free agents just looking for a major payday. Our FA moves for the most part haven't panned out. Moss was the only good deal we have inked in recent memory. Brunell's signing being good is debatable. The Fletcher pickup was good so I correct myslef about the previous statement. Haynesworth and D' Angelo Hall will be wait and see cases. Bottom line though is we gamble with FA acqusitions and usually bomb with our draft strategy, if we ever have one. On top of that we choke when the game is tight and on the line. In short, the FO and the team just doesn't get the job done. |
You might want to give Pittsburgh a little credit. Tenn played them pretty even in their house. It's a game that last year's Tennessee team would have won by a larger margin than they won last year.
In the AFC, I'm not sure that's going to get you past .500. If they run for 250 yards on the Texans next week, well, yeah they're probably fine. That's a real source of offense. |

The point is that Tennessee isn't known for splurging for free agents the way we are. It's not to say that we ignore the draft, just that we rely on the free agent market more than the Titans do, and it costs more towards the salary cap. |

Agree. The team, coaches, and players are not the laughing stock but the way the FO is run would be looked at as the laughing stock, even though that is a little too harsh. The culture of the FO needs to be changed, this isnt fantasy football. Overpaying Free Agents (we all know the list) and giving away draft picks(last year J. Taylor) is not how to building championship football. I think in the last several years we have drafted better but even though I would disagree with several decisions. Fat Albert is gonna be solid, but I winced when I heard the numbers. I think giving a guy 4 years out of football, 100+ lbs out of shape a contract and then stating it "changed our draft strategy" is simply retarded. If the FO thought a little ahead of things we wouldnt have to do things like this. I think if they looked at Pittsburg, New England, and even the Giants, the FO could pick up some ideas about how to put together a team. Instead the mentality is whenever a free agent hits the market we get the first call because agents know we will over spend, thats the laughable part. |

Historically that is true but that has changed significantly under Zorn. And the Titans have several times overpaid for free agents, just not to the tune of $100 mil. It's a difference of degree, not of kind. It may be that in a few years Tennessee will pay big $$ for someone like Devin Thomas and the tables will be turned. |
Re: Question: Why are Titans a "Super Bowl Contender" while we are laughing stock?
The Titans are my second favorite team, but its remarkable how much greener the grass is on the other side for so many people here.
The Titans do a lot well, but let's not forget... - Their high profile, high first round pick has basically been a bust and is their backup QB right now to a 38 year old. - They've made free agent moves that blown up in their face. David Givens comes to mind - They managed the salary cap so poorly a few years back they not only had to release Derrick Mason, Eddie George, and Samari Rolle, they could barely even afford a full roster |
