Positives of this Game
1. Offensive line gave up only two sacks. One was JC holding the ball to long.
2. Defense only gave up 16 points. 3. Haynesworth played well. 4. Carlos Rogers played well. 5. Defense got two turnovers. 6. Fletcher, and McIntosh had good games. 7. Heyer did not give up a sack. 8. JC's completion ratio was good. Wish they would have thrown more. 9. Most importanily, we play the Rams next week. |
Re: Positives of this Game
The two redzone stands 3rd, 3rd, and 4th downs were actually AWESOME. It showed guts in the line play.
|
Re: Positives of this Game
As much as I'm frustrated with our showing today, it was one game and we've got some favorable match-ups over the next month so hopefully we can get on a nice roll. There were some positives (Campbell's production in the shotgun, Heyer's play, ARE showing well in the slot, defense playing well on 1st and 2nd downs, Haynesworth as you mentioned, sacks and turnovers against one of the best OL and higher scoring offenses in the league) to take from today. Hopefully Zorn builds on the positives over the next few weeks.

Yeah, I should have listed those stands. |

Agreed. :food-smil Bring on the St. Louis Lambs! |
Re: Positives of this Game
No INJURIES!
|
Re: Positives of this Game
ARE in the slot is a major upgrade. It suits his skills very well.

Yeah, that too. I am starting to feel better and return to my delusional state that believes we are going to win the Bowl. |
Re: Positives of this Game
Fletcher is leading the NFL in tackles! hopefully he'll get to the pro bowl this year.
|
Re: Positives of this Game
O and Cooley has as many TD's in this game as he did all of last year! And McNabb is hurt so he won't be as good as last year, plus the Cowboys look very beatable, and we get New York at our place later this year, more experience for the D and O, and we lost by 6 to a team that a lot of people say could go to the super bowl, the very first game of the year, at their place, playing very stupidly on O and D, knowing we won't play this stupid again, isn't that right jason campbell (throw a pick way beyond the line of scrimmage), laron landry (trying to kill every person out of bounds and after every play, specifically Brandon Jacobs), and DeAngelo Hall (playing 15 yards off the line of scrimmage, gee I wonder if they'll throw some slants on you now? Idiot). Lets go get those Rams and forget about how we played today ok?
|
Re: Positives of this Game
Horton and Doughty made some plays.
|
Re: Positives of this Game
We are NOT ,,,, Detroit , Oakland , NYG , Iggles or cowturds :) We did have some positives ,,,, but we need AH to play fast and angry ,,,, and Landry needs to take better angles and Hall has to cover much better ,,,,,,,,
|
Re: Positives of this Game
Landry didn't get trucked by Jacobs
|
Re: Positives of this Game
1.) No injuries
2.) The red zone stands 3.) ARE! 4.) O-Line 5.) Lorenzo Alexander, London, Rocky, Big Al getting his beak wet. 6.) It's over 7.) You didn't ask me about the negatives |
Re: Positives of this Game
What about that nasty hit that Fletcher put on Jacobs, and by the way, this game Jacobs was handled.

Yes he was. I loved it. I was suprised with the LB play. I thought that was the weakest unit on the D. But they played very well. Didn't see much of Orakpo tho. |
Re: Positives of this Game
I think if they want Orakpo to be what he can be they need to get a SAM linebacker and let him play DE
|
Re: Positives of this Game
There really was not enough of anything on a sustained basis that would enable me to come to an informed conclusion. However, there were moments, I thought RE"s 7 catches for 97 yds. was impressive, but the overall effort was spoty and ify. A play here, a play there but very few things actually stood out that you could hang your hat on and say this is definately going to be a positive going foreward.

Re: Positives of this Game
There were positives?
1) Last yr it was O-line issues. What's the excuse now.....WR issues? 2) 16 points to many. They have no WR's. Please someone stop the run. 3) He was a non factor the whole 1st half. If he was doubled who was open? 4) Smoot sucked at tackling. 5) Did the offense capitalize from them? 6) Apparently neither can cover Boss. 7) Heyer didn't have to Samuels allowed them. Oh and the Guards allowed the rushes. 8) They have bad CB's. We should have tested them more but didn't. 9) The Rams. The Skins play to the level of their opponents. They beat us last yr. My whole thought process in regards to the NFC is skewed. I didn't see anything out of Tampa Bay that would have them scoring so many points. We may be in trouble. I figured Carolina would be better then the Eagles. and....with out a doubt we have more talent then the Giants yet we handed them the game. Maybe Zorn should have been in the 2min drill the whole game cause the players responded to it. |
Re: Positives of this Game
SBXVII,
Just curious, why the negativity in this thread. If you don't see any positives you certainly have a ton of threads on the board to choose from. Seriously, we scored 17 points, the fake FG was a thing of beauty, and there were other positives. Yes there were more negatives, um we did lose. I'm over it. |
Re: Positives of this Game
We lost to the Dwarfs by less than 6 in their house. We were more competitive than either game with them last year.
The sky is not falling in. Back to discussing positives in this thread, please. |

Allowed them to play a physical against us. I'll agree the G-mens D-line is awsome but their CB's are suspect. It didn't take me but 2 series to figure out that we would need to get Portis the ball behind the D-line some how cause he was not going to run through them. He had only 2 good runs. 17 points. Please. All last yr we scored less then 20 points and yet again with all the weapons supposedly at our disposal we still can't get over the hump. I'll agree the fake Kick was a thing of beauty but it's pretty bad we had to resort to it. Every time we got into the red zone I kept saying Here's Cooley's chance...oh wait it's a run. Here's Kelly's chance....oh wait its a run. Here's Mitchell's chance do to his height....oh wait its a run. I'm glad your over it. I think by Wed. I might be over it. See for me It seems like this town is totally different after a loss and I'm sure I'll feel it for a couple of more days. Not to mention having a family member who is a Dallas fan saying ...."Oh did the Skins lose? Sorry." |

Any thing else I'm missing as far as positives? |

Re: Positives of this Game
I think there were a lot of positives. Cooley got the ball alot and scored. It was good to see JC hit him in the endzone. ARE is playing where he should be and doing well. The 0-line played well in their first game and should get better. Rogers played very well and didn't seem hampered by his injury. Fletch had 18 tackles and Rocky had one of his better games. AH pushed the pocket, now we have to take better advantage of it. JC made a couple of mistakes but hit a high percentage of his passes. There were a lot of mistakes but I expect them to be corrected.
|
Re: Positives of this Game
1.) Portis showed some good speed and cuts
2.) ARE is in the slot- looked good |
Re: Positives of this Game
No INJURIES!
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw this thread. The only positive is there were no injuries. |
Re: Positives of this Game
1. O-line played well
2. Several passes completed for 15+ yards 3. Receivers ran routes past the 1st down marker on 3rd downs. (remember how many routes were ran last year a yard short of the 1st down) 4. The D-fense actually produced some to's. 5. There was actually pressure put on an opposing QB 6. The run was kept in check 7. Goal line stands 8. Suisham is 1-1 9. Offense produced points and did move the ball against a great D......(remember the offense should get better...were one year into this offense) 10. Zorn's play calling was better ( at least we aren't as predictable as we were last year) 11. Despite all that went wrong the players didn't give up and still had a chance towards the end. Honestly, I was pissed off during the game as many of u all were im sure. However, once I reflected on the game I have a decent feel of where this team is headed. I really think by week 6 this team will be a good team and if we don't play down to our opponents level we should be in good shape. The only ? marks for me is dumb penalites which can be fixed and also our DB's---------(which cant be fixed)....... |
Re: Positives of this Game
Skins defense surrendered only 16 points despite being on the field for more than 35 minutes; the offense line held up well against the league's best pass rush; Campbell did well converting third and longs (against the league's most difficult team to do so); Campbell got multiple receivers involved and the vertical passing game was an improvement over last year; the team played tough in 4th quarter whereas a year ago they rarely showed such integrity.
|
Re: Positives of this Game
Red Zone stands (if the G-Men had lost everyone would be discussing how dumb Coughlin was to go for it on 4th down, up by 3 in a defensive game instead of how dumb Zorn is for trying a trick play too early to slow down the G-Men's aggressiveness).
No quit. I truly believe it would have been a blowout last season (especially the second half of the year) because guys would have laid down after the first half. They didn't. ARE in the slot. He is great there and even if Kelly and Thomas never catch a pass, leave him in the slot where he can team with Cooley in stretching the seam. D-Line got pressure w/o blitzes and Jacobs didn't kill us as he did last Sept. If we beat the teams we should, we are still a playoff team. |
Re: Positives of this Game
Another positive....this was probaboly the hardest game (on paper) on our schedule this season. You'd have to think @ DAL , @ PHI, @ NY are the hardest games of the season, and I think NY is the best of the three (although Philly was impressive yesterday)....

Nice post . We have 15 games to make this season ,,,, next up ,, LAMS :) |
Re: Positives of this Game
It was FRUSTRATING because we had oppurtunities to take this game! Getting to that point we did a lot of positive things. Much to build on (which has been covered already) AND kick some serious ass and get the offense in the groove over the next 6 games or so. That should be a great boon as the last half of the schedule will be more....challenging.
AND, AND hopefully the D can get in the groove and deliver the pass rush we SHOULD BE GETTING |
Re: Positives of this Game
Defense was really strong other than the manningham TD early on. The red-zone stands are a huge improvement and portis had a nice opening run. Cooley was solid. Moss was off his game. I have to say after supporting Campbell for the last 3 years in his development, we should look for a QB in the draft come April.

2 big issues with this. Cooley was solid? Cooley lost 1 fumble and then almost lost another. Ball security seems to be an issue once he's caught the football. He doesn't drop many balls (if any), but it does seem like he has a tendency to put it on the ground while fighting for more yards. He's got to put it away. How can anyone really say that, based on yesterday, the Skins should give up on Campbell? I concede, throwing the ball about 3 yards past the line of scrimmage was probably the dumbest mistake I've see him make, but that pick was not his all his fault. The ball should have never been thrown, but Moss has to come back to it. Also, it took a hell of a play to even get picked. As for the fumble, that's all on him, he's admitted that and said he's frustrated with himself for that play. Other than that, what was not to like, yesterday? The only time the ball moved (other than 1 running play) was through the air. There's absolutely no way the running game should not be secondary going forward. Campbell was efficient and they made some big plays with Randle El running after the catch. I'd love to see Kelly and Moss get involved, but when you only throw 26 times, that's not going to happen very often. I'm encouraged by what I saw out of Campbell, other than those 2 mistakes. As far as the running game goes, I'm only a little concerned because the Giants have the best D Line in football, so I'll wait to say "this line can't run block," but I'd definitely like them to do less of it against St. Louis. |
Re: Positives of this Game
Told you ARE would shine this season if used properly...our leading receiver with 7 for 98. :)
It was nice to see us force 2 TOs, unfortunately, we matched them. However, getting TOs is a nice chance of pace from last season and I believe it will continue all season. Best of all, no injuries for us...and McNabb went down. :D Losing by 6 to the Giants is not bad, we were bound to lose the opener to them in NJ anyways. |
Re: Positives of this Game
Cooley didn't lose any fumbles did he? Thought he fumbled out of bounds once and then the other one was reversed where his knee was clearly down.
