Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Good, somebody on offense needs to get fired up.
|
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Ack.
Losing sucks. The thing this team needs more than anything else is a solid W. It's been a looong time since we've had one of those. |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Boys will be boys...this kind of thing happens on a football team. It is not unusual, we just normally do not hear about it.
Although I do question Portis asking the coaches to replace a player and how that got back to Sellers. Either Portis was not respectful and discreet about his request, or someone whispered in Sellers' ear. Portis needs back down the ego a bit. |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
This isn't good. This team is falling apart.
|
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
I hate to say it, but if what's reported about CP requesting MS be replaced, it's another sign than CP is a team cancer, enabled by DS who has guaranteed him big $ even as his ability is in decline.
It's not the first time he's thrown teamates or coaches under the bus. Remember him talking about the o line last year & of course the "head coach is a genius" comments to J. Thompson. The Skins Insider reported not long ago that Portis wasn't in shape. A bit confusing since in preseason they reported that he was in camp & working harder than in year's past. In shape or not, his play on the field hasn't been exemplary to the point that he can point fingers at anyone. I agree w/Slingin Sammy' he's developed a bad habit of tripping himself. |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Sellers is pretty much a worthless player except for the little bit of blocking he does so when he has problems with that then he becomes a huge liability.

I would also say though that Sellers nearly killed us with his dropped TD pass and his decision to change up his blocking assignment against the Lions definitely killed us. He has to step it up |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
This team is hanging on by a very, very thin thread.

That's what they used to say about the Giants with all the bickering they would have under Coughlin...look at them now |

That was my first thought. But if CP is serious, wow, Yoder? lol |

Yeah but they know how to draft players. We do not. |

Oh boy here we go  |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
I wouldn't say Portis is a team cancer at all...I would say though that he reportedly doesn't really speak to any of his teammates but Moss. He basically just keeps to himself. He's not a team leader but I don't know about team cancer.

They also had to get rid of some folks too. Strahan, Shockey, Barber . . . At one point they were considered the heart and soul of NY. Sound familiar? |

In my opinion, in being what he is, he should at least put forth some effort into trying to seem like he cares. Maybe he was the un-named party in that D-Hall interview. I think maybe him keeping to himself has sent a message that if the vets on this team aren't that into it, why should we be? It's a Raiders' attitude. |

We're not terrible at drafting players, but our overall personnel management is pretty weak when compared to the NYG. Plus Coughlin is a lot more experienced and hard-nosed than Zorn. Maybe Portis should have gotten in Sellers face and told him to step it up rather than go behind his back to a coach and ask for his benching. Regardless, Sellers has been a disappointment for sure thus far. He got his Pro-Bowl and his extension. Maybe he's taking his foot off the gas so to speak. I hope not. |

Good point. |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Why is it always Portis who seems to be at the center of most of the player/locker room contorversy? If it's not one thing it's another. From his remarks about Mike Vick to his deal with Brian Mitchell, and now Mike Sellers. There's going to be an end to this I hope.

I mean all around the league you see guys getting right in teammates' faces, and they are more respected because of it. |

Things will change when we draft Jonathan Dwyer |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
I forgot to even mention spats with Jim Zorn as well as John Riggins. He's really going to leave a ton of friends behind when he does leave town.

Yup. But Portis is more of a diva and a mouth than a leader or a tough guy. I don't ever remember seeing him fired up on the sideline or trying to pump up his teammates. And not every player has to be that guy, but coaches and management have asked him more than once to take a leadership role, and he hasn't answered the call. That's disappointing. Sure, he stuck around DC and worked out at Redskins Park in the offseason, but changing your weight-lifting venue doesn't make you a leader. |
This isn't good. This team is falling apart.
If this team wants to start winning we can't be having all these distractions going on, like this, hiring sherman lewis, greg blache not wanting to talk to the media, players not coming together or being on the same page, firing zorn talk...we're just a circus of diaster right now. |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Portis blows....not
He's definitely lost a step it seems but that could just be a product of pretty bad run blocking... |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
I agree Portis should have gone to Sellers in person , but CP would have likely got his ass kicked if he had gotten in Sellers " face " .... just saying . Not a big deal IMO , when you're not winning people get angry and vent through talking .

Same thing that I'm thinking. They're supposed to be core Redskin guys. They're supposed to hold the team together during times like these; not fight each other! This sucks! |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
It's funny that Portis is mad about Sellers not getting a block. Yoder missed a block too. They both left points on the field.

Here is what Portis said originally about that 4th down play

I'm not sure I would put Strahan in that category. Certainly, he had problems with Coughlin, but he was, unlike the other two, on the field when the Giants won the Super Bowl. If we all recall, the bickering on the Giants, and the very poor atmosphere in the locker room, reached a fever pitch after week 2 of 2007, and some reasonably believed that a loss against the Redskins in week 3 would spell the end for Coughlin. After that unfortunate comeback of theirs, the bickering lessened significantly, and they actually began--Strahan and Coughlin included--to form a pretty decent bond as the season went on, leading all the way up to the Super Bowl victory. Yes, I agree that spats between players are common, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily good things. Winning is always the best cure, but if the team loses against one of their winless opponents, and struggles even more when the competition becomes a little more fierce, I think this spat demonstrates that things could get ugly. |

i hope this gets people fired up.

This team doesnt have any leaders. With all the mess going on in the organization now I cant help but think that at this moment in time the Redskins may be the worst organization in the NFL. |

I'm hoping for CJ Spiller if we draft a rb. He's a burner. |

That doesn't sound good for a guy that seems as extroverted as he is, that he only really talks to Moss. If his teamates were mildly pissed (at least JLC used to say there was some resentment about his preferential treatment) when CP was getting 100 yrd. games back to back, then they're bound to be pissed if he's lobbying for in game subs. He may not be a problem on an interpersonal level (w/this Sellers incident an exception) w/his teamates, but after a while the teachers pet role grows old. He really doesn't have much room to talk, even in his best game this year, he lost his balance a few times & left some yards on the field. It's his fault he got 98 rather than 100+. See Slingin Sammy's game review. For anyone that's played football, RBs & WRs; did you ever do the drill "the stumble bum?" It might be called different names, but it basically amounts to running w/the ball while leaning over & touching the ground w/the other hand. It's to develop balance. Maybe a little bit of practice time & doing those silly drills would help CP (I know, he's hurt all week!). |

Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Portis blows....not
He's definitely lost a step it seems but that could just be a product of pretty bad run blocking...
I just ran some numbers for 2008 (a year where portis did well). taking all rushers with at least 190 carries (26 in total) this is how portis stacks up... he's +1.65 standard deviations above average in carries making him 86% better than the average back he's +1.43 st dev above the mean in attemps per game making him low 80% better than the average back he's +1.4 st dev above the mean in total yards gained again making him low 80% better than the average back he's +.16 st dev above the mean in yard per carry (at 4.3 ypc) making him 10% better than the average back he's +1.22 st dev above the mean in yards per game making him 80% better than the average back he's +.02 st dev above the mean in tds scored making him 1.36% better than the average back he's -1.27 st dev below the mean in longest run making him 80ish% worse than the average back he's +1.61 st dev above the mean in first downs making him 85% better than the average back he's +.39 st dev above the mean in first down percentage making him 26% better than the average back he's +1.3 st dev above the mean in gains of 20+ yards making him 76% better than the average back he's -1.09 st dev below the mean in 40+ gains making him 70% worse than the average back he's +.22 st dev above the mean in fumbles lost making him 11% worse than the average back what does this mean? I'm not sure much (especially because he had the 3rd most attempts in the league) but as its just one year (a year when portis was pretty good, a year where it was also heavily front loaded, a year where his line fell apart, etc) but I think it says that portis is good. Yes, he doesn't explode for huge gains, but he does better than we give him credit for with 20+ runs (certainly better than I give him credit for). That said, the fact that he's just 10% better than average in yards per attempt (in a year where he matched the best average that he's had in DC) is painful. |

No leaders, Bit of a stretch wouldn't you say...? Thats retarded. Worst org. in the NFL not by a long shot. Your getting a little carried away irish. |
