Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Report-Snyder-has-made-two-bids-for-Shanahan.html
Report: Snyder has made two bids for Shanahan It’s never too early to start speculating about the coaching carousel, and John Czarnecki of FoxSports.com reports that Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has reached out to Mike Shanahan now—twice. Czarnecki reports that Snyder made a play for Shanahan during the offseason, and has gone after the two-time Super Bowl winner again during this season. Both times he's been rebuffed.
I guess his relationship with Cerrato isn't enough to overcome the little voice in Shanahan's ear that tells him coaching for Snyder is career suicide. Cowher has also allegedly rebuffed Snyder several times. Dungy essentially made fun of Snyder on the air last week. So now, of the big names available in the offseason, we're left with Gruden and Holmgren. I think Holmgrens smart enough to reject any offer Snyder makes, so that leaves us with Gruden. If even Gruden won't work here, then we're left with hiring dumb 3rd or 4th tier assistant coaches and repeating the disaster we made with Zorn. When will the madness end? |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Money talks! Don't rule him out.
|
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Well, to contradict my post, Jay Glazer, on the Fox pregame show, said he predicted Sherm Lewis could be hired last week and it happened. He also reported that, despite Snyder's denial, Snyder personally flew to Denver to see Shanahan after the loss to Detroit and Glazer is confident Shanahan will be named interim HC sometime during the season. However, due to the Rooney rule, he can't be named permanent HC until a minority candidate is interviewed

re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Too early to write Shanahan off. He's probably waiting to see what Jerry offers.
Holmgren is still an option though I think he wants us more than we want him Gruden has said he's not interested in coaching the Skins...but it's only October If Shanahan wants to be in charge of personnel I'm more than happy with him not being here. Interestingly though, if we do hire him we may be hiring his successor as well because it's almost a lock that he will bring his son here to be assistant head coach/offensive coordinator |

Well it looks as if Shanahan is finally wealthy enough he won't do it for money. |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
The best thing for the team is for all the big name coaches decline Snyder's offers for organization structure issues and force him to rebuild the team right. But money does talk so that might not work like i want it too.

That's the problem.. if we don't get a real guy in here Snyderrato will be the ones rebuilding. |

I would have to be convinced that any of the coaches mentioned will make a difference here until changes are made. Ask yourself (money aside) how many coaches, that want to keep their reputation in tact would want to come here and work for this administration under the current set of circumstances? |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Im pretty sure that Cerrato would be fired if Snyder were to lure any high profile coach on here.

re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Maybe Snyder goes for Shanahan during this season and gets him used to working with Cerrato.
That would make Cerrato less fireable during this offseason since they would have been working together during this season. Snyder gets his big name coach and then gets to keep his croney in the front office. Win-win for Snyder. |

It will be interesting because Shanny may be the one who has final call and sets the direction for the roster but has Vinny execute his plan. |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
I don't think the problem is Vinny as much as Snyder. Is Snyder really going to hire someone and step back?

So that means the Skins are setting up a situation where Ceratto stays with Shanahan...Effing disgusting! It's looking bleak for people who want Ceratto out of town. |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Come on now. Is Snyder really going after him and ready to throw away the season right now?
|
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Don't believe this one bit. Its too premature and is by an untrustworthy source. When was the last time John Czarniki came out with a good report?
|
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
I hope you are right, I don't care for this over rated guy.
|
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
At this point you have to offer 10% ownership and GM duties to get a good coach. Firing Marty Shoty cost him any chance of hiring brand name coaches.
|
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
WHO the HELL knows if Shanahan can excell with GM and coaching? I personally am NOT ready to toss the team to anyone who will take it. No point in not, or even risking getting something as bad or worse.............
|
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Getting a respected football man like Marty, making him GM and giving him final say will go along way to being able to land a good coach. Then that new HC coach hires his staff. But Snyder does not understand that process!
This problem is so easily solved, but Snyder will never swallow his pride and make this move. |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Someone will want to coach in DC. But, it would not surprise me if a few guys (even lower profile ones) turned us down. It's pretty sad that Spags turned us down and ended up accepting a job with the Rams.
|
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
i think we are looking at jason garrett or another qb coach

Exactly, someone is going to look at this team and see all the talent and think they can turn us around. Will that be a Shannahan or a Holgrem or so on only time will tell. |

Jason Garrett was a hot commodity last year, but his stock has fallen dramatically. As for hiring a QB coach, how likely do you think that is now that Zorn has failed so miserably? |

I'll take any coach who would draft offensive lineman in the first three rounds. |

Right after the Glazer piece JJ mentioned that whoever takes over will have to make decisions by letting Dan Snyder think they are his idea. I laughed very hard even though it came from a former Cokeboys coach |
I'll take any coach who would draft offensive lineman in the first three rounds.
BINGO!!! We have a winner!!! It doesn't matter who coaches as long as the FO continues to neglect the O-line. Zorn is not the problem. Campbell is not the problem. Give us a deep, competent O-line, and you can win with the current players and this coaching staff.

You know when we are running the ball to the right side that something is utterly wrong with our O-line. |

Are you kidding? How long are we going to wear the treads off our current players? If we get a new coach, that coach better bring in his own staff and players. Enough of the roster tweaking sentiment...this team needs C4 if there is a new coach. |

We are the only team in the ENTIRE league that hasn't spent a 1st or 2nd round pick on the O-line since taking Samuels in 2000. NFC East football is won in the trenches. Compare our commitment to that of our division rivals on upgrading interior line depth through the draft. 'Nuff said. |

I completely agree with the line building. But if we get a new coach I'll be damned if we're keeping this current roster intact. If a new coach comes in we better build our team for HIS COACHING STRATEGY and not build it around the strategy of coaches who used to be here. |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
How can you hire Shanahan in the middle of the season??? That's just so stupid. If Snyder fires Zorn during the season then he's gotta hire someone from within.

Rooney rule...he could only be hired as the interim head coach. They wouldn't do that. Even Snyder isn't that stupid...or is he? This is all so tiring to watch. It's bad when the score is 17 - 2 and you're on the edge of your seat waiting for it all to unravel... I've been one of those saying let's not get too excited about things yet, but I'm jumping on the "change" bandwagon now. I just don't know where we would start. |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
theorectically they coul dinterview blatche for the position and satisfy it..
bu i dont think shannahan or anybody of note is heading our way |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Our next coach will be Daffy Duck.

Perhaps. There is no denying that this organization is run by Mickey Mouse. |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
If Shanahan is our next head coach, I'm pretty sure that Alex Gibbs will be brought in to fix our offensive line issues. This would be ok, because Joe Bugel would most likely retire at the end of the season.
I'm on the Shanahan bandwagon, but wouldn't mind Holmgren either. Their are a ton of big name headcoaches out their that Snyder could lure out of retirement to coach us. However, would they be willing to come to us w/o Vinny Cerrato being fired? |
re: Updated/Merged: Shanahan Rumors (Will He or Won't He?)
Not so fast!!!!
