Sources: Gruden the front runner
Rick Snider: Gruden atop Snyder's list - DC Pro Sports Report
Rick Snider of the DC Examiner reports that sources have said that former Bucs coach and Monday Night Football commentator Jon Gruden is high atop the wish list of Redskins owner Dan Snyder to replace Jim Zorn. Check that. He appears to be THE choice Snyder would like to bring to the Redskins.
Gruden is willing to deal with Snyderrato in charge. That tells me, expect more fo the same. |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I hope not. This guy had like 5 different QB's in Tampa Bay and could not decide who he's starter was. Name me a great QB he had? Rich Gannon, Jeff Garcia? PLEASEEE!!! No thanks!!
|
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I guess I'll just merge the posts I had in the Shanahan Rumors thread about Gruden into one post here.
Well this won't please too many people "Snyder is seeking is a candidate willing to leave major personnel decisions to Cerrato and the owner. NFL sources close to Gruden said that's not an expected deal breaker." Gruden with Bruce Allen, heck even just Bruce Allen without Gruden, could have been nice. I'm not sure who the sources are who say Gruden is interested in the Redskins, I'm curious to know who they are. Not saying they're wrong but I've got arguably the best source when it comes to Gruden and in the last few weeks this source has repeatedly said "not interested" But...it's only October. In the short term, I suppose this isn't awful. In the short term perhaps. I can see Gruden firing up the team and getting them top play lights out for a couple of years. But that will fizzle out rather quickly It's probably not the most ideal scenario I think part of why VC would stick around is it's just a matter who you get along with, happens all over the place, and Snyder and VC get along. Another, bigger, part of it is that even though VC has been around for the last decade for the most part it's only been the last two years that he had the final authority that he has now. And I know what you're thinking, if he's going to be patient with Cerrato why not Zorn? I don't know the answer. I do still suspect though that he (Cerrato) sooner than later won't have quite the input he does now. Again, unless someone like Jerry Gray becomes our full time head coach...and that would be a stunner. Chris Mortenson has speculated that Holmgren as GM and Gruden as head coach will end up somewhere together...but not in DC |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
At this point i Don't even care anymore..
|
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I can tell you that as much as I don't like Zorn right now I would be pissed if DS brought in Fassel. I can almost hear his brain now..." The fans will take anyone now so long as they have been a HC before. Now I can finally get the man I wanted all along."
|
At this point i Don't even care anymore..
If a new coach comes in and still has to work under the thumb of Vinny and Dan I expect a lot of people are going to feel this way, myself included.

Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I hope so. Who would Gruden Keyshawn first. I'd say portis and he would want to keep JC at QB.

Its Vinny that has caused all this heart ache and pain I feel. Is there anyone going start an on-line petition to fire Vinny. Lets hope soon. |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
If Gruden is willing to take it with Snyderrato in place, then it will be Gruden. That si exactly what Snyder wants.
Too bad for Redskins fans. We lose again. As long as the front office remains the same, expect more of the same. |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I'll take lights out for couple years and fizzle out over what we have had past 18 years.
|
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
i've heard rumors that gruden is interrested in coaching the chargers, if that job ever came open. i also heard gruden was interrested in coaching a college team, notre dame, i think. these rumors were heard on sports radio,so don't know how much truth there is to them.
|
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I'll take Gruden anyday. It can't be any worse.

Maybe we can get Norv and Casserly together again LOL I call re-do on the last 10 years! |

What happened to the burgundy revolt? Picketing FedEx Field demanding that Snyder sell the team is the only way things will ever get better for us.

You must mean the RED/BLACK/AND YELLOW ....right? Zorn was doomed from the start. |

Another healthy dose of a big mistake. The author got it right, if Gruden were to come here it would only be to get paid. Herein lies the greatest fault that will continue to haunt Snyder. |

You can demand all you want it won't get you anywhere. Dan will own the team until the day he dies. All you can do is just hope oneday he gets it right. |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
Sell the team to Limbaugh!
|
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
I like Gruden more than Holmgren or Shanny. He had shit talent in Tampa Bay and always had them either in the playoffs or knocking on the door. I also like that he's not a dork like Zorn.
|
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
This is sad. Vinny will go into next years draft and get us a TE, WR, and CB.

Exactly right. If he doesn't learn, then we will have a nuclear war. But if can figure out that his active participation always leads to doom, maybe he will stop himself. |

That would be the one thing that would get me to stop being a Redskins fan. It is the only thing I can think of. They could finish 4-12 for 10 years and I'd still be a fan, but if that were the owner, I'd bail. |

No he will trade all the picks to get "that one missing piece", some vet on his last leg who just wants one last fat payday. |

Steve Czban (sp) put it perfectly into words today on his radio show. Ill summarize. Vinny is the only "GM" willing to be Snyder's proxy, Snyder could never relinquish control of the team to any true GM that knows the game. Using Vinny gives the appearance that Danny boy isn't calling the shots. Vinny is obviously a horrible football guy, has no clue how to pick the players or coaches, and he knows this so in order to keep a job, he just lets Snyder pull his strings. Lets face it, Snyder would probably rather sell the team than let someone else have control over football operations. Thats probably the main reason Marty was one and done...Snyder couldn't handle not having his hands in the cookie jar. And ironically enough that was the one year I thought the Skins were headed in the right direction. If Vinny goes, what other GM is going to come hear and let Snyder have final say? What coach is going to come hear that isn't allowed to pick their assistants? This franchise is doomed until Snyder puts his ego aside and lets someone who knows what they are doing call the shots. |

Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
You people in DC, stop being such push overs. Take signs to the stadium demanding VC get fired! Come on folks...grow a pair. The people in Detroit got Matt Millen fired. What is wrong you with people in DC area? Why do you put up with this crap? The only way you will reach DS in his ivory owners box is if the crowd in his stadium is screaming for VC's ouster and raise signs. That is the only way. Otherwise DS will not make any changes.
VC has to get fired or we will continue to flounder. Question: What will it take to get VC fired? |

Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
Maybe The Warpath should send something to office of Danny Boy with our displeasure of the direction of the franchise and Vinny pathetic attempt of making football decisions. Something needs to be done. Skins fans are one of the most passionate in the NFL, we need to stand up!!!

Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
If Danny is so bad why doesn't he do like a GM college and try to learn the job?

But it took more than 4 years of "Fire Millen" signs in Detroit before he was fired. One could argue that the fan signs meant nothing in the firing of Millen, who lost his job for other reasons. |

In the meantime, don't attend games. Don't think even think about buying a jersey; don't even go near their site's online store. And of course when your name comes up on the "waiting list" you'll know what to do. Hang the fuck up. |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
Rumors are flying around everywhere. At this point I really don't care. No coach is going to come in mid season. It's just a joke, Snyder is a joke and so is his butt boy Vinny. They're to blame for this mess, not Zorn cause they're the dumb asses who hired him. I mean how stupid do you have to be hire an OC BEFORE you hire a HC? It's just plain old stupid. I can't take these two clowns anymore.

Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
Maybe Joe Gibbs can bring respectablity back to the Skins for the duration of the year.
Heck...who thought we'd be respected again after Danny's clowns with Spurriers gators. All it took was a half a season without Gibbs to have everything start to collapse again. I really think a lot of you have underestimated how well Gibbs did under the circumstances....to me....if the best Gibbs could do is win a playoff game...thats as good as is possible under the current management. The only person that could do as well or better would be Parcells...and he aint going anywhere....and to be honest...I don't like him. I am pretty worried about the next 3-4 years unless something major is changed...and I am not just talking about a new coach |

Im not having a real passionate year. I feel like i was just neutered. |
Re: Sources: Gruden the front runner
C'mon Skins fans passionate? For having the largest NFL stadium since 1996 until 2009 Skins fans don't make a whole lot of noise for 90,000+. I have to agree that we are pushovers. Detroiters got pissed, and yes for 3-4 years came to games with paper bags and signs saying fire Millen, etc, but at least they kept up the campaign and quit coming to games. I went to the Lions game this season and you know what? There were easily around 15,000 empty seats at Ford Field. Only the diehards came or area Skins fans like me. What do some lazy bastards in here do? Change their frigging avatar? Oh boy, that is going to scare Snyder into putting things right now!!!!!! If you have season ticks, don't renew, don't buy overpriced NFL crap, etc. If you go to the games and are truly pissed at this crappy operation wear a bag over your head. Why? You work your ass off 40+ days a week, while these lame asses play shitty football while you are paying up the wazoo to see them, eat there, etc. Snyder could bring Dungy back, but if the same FO is in place Dungy will go down like Gibbs did. Fire Cerrato and Hire a GM should be the theme.

Gibbs II ended on a mediocre note because of both the FO and him in some of his dumbass FA moves giving up picks. |
