Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
I can't help but look ahead on the schedule and wonder how much worse it's gonna get. This was supposed to be the "easy" stretch of the schedule and we're looking at limping in to the bye at best 3-4, possibly 2-5.
Check out what's ahead after the bye:  @ Atlanta Denver @ Dallas @ Philly New Orleans @ Oakland NYG Dallas @ San Diego Outside of Oakland, it's looking like a rough 2nd half of the year. Top 5 pick anyone? Buckle up folks, things are gonna get real bumpy. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
The funny part is it would not surprise me one bit if we did not play strong in that stretch leaving us fans scratching our heads.
|
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
The optimist in me feels the need to point out that we often rise to the occasion against division rivals. See last year: we lost to the Rams, Bengals, and Niners, but swept the Iggles and split with the Boys.
I'm not saying that everything is ok. I'm just saying that it might not be as bad as it seems. We could be 4-3 at the bye. |

I was thinking the same thing, and if Blache can continue to get the D to play the way they have the last 2 weeks this team will always be in games. I'm not saying a winning season is before us, but we might get to 7-9 & look somewhat respectable. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
^ OR it would be the opposite of last year ... like a 3-5 start, and a 5-3 finish...
we will prolly beat philly at home in 2 weeks... we will prolly beat dallas at home... for some reason we'll prolly beat denver ... the best as of right now its looking is not good at all.... just saying it would FIGURE for our team to go ahead and start 3-5.. .. then go 5-3 and be looking at 8-8 again. i hope they turn things around, in w/ever way possible.... its not looking like that but who knows.... |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
I just feel with our current OL situation, we're going to be so overmatched it's going to be a joke.
|
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
Question if we win every division game from here on out and lose the rest but the giants split with everyone else in the division do we win the division with a 7-9 overall record but 5-1 division record? Never will happen just asking.
|
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
looking like a 4-12 season.

Well if it is it won't be a funny one. |

Overall record trumps div record |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
I think we would be extremely lucky to win more than 6 games.

I figured so thanks |

Yes, I get that same feeling. We've played the worst schedule by far of any NFL team and we can't score points. We've got a good enough defense, but playing the likes of Philly, NY, Dal and the other teams, we've got to put points on the board. Our offensive line is so bad right now, it might be pretty tough. Very, very discouraged right now. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
I could see this team playing tough against the better opponents. Remember our best offensive output was against the Giants, I say better than Carolina even though the score was the same, because we sustained some drives, and scored off of long drives. I think the "superstars" for this team step up against better opponents. But it's not unrealistic to see a 4-12 performance too.
|
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
its hard not to be discouraged...
we ashould be 3-2 right now .. freak occurance / bad special teams play or not. it just our luck that it happened... ridiculous |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
If we do get a top 5 pick and there's a QB there that is a potential franchise QB, i think you've got to take him.
If I'm the skins, i'm trading away players for picks, picks, and more picks. The more picks the more olineman we can draft. Maybe Vinny can hit on one or two. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
wow how things change around here. before the pre season everyone was thinking we were going to win 10-12 games. reality has set in and as it turns out we're not a real good team. i see 6-7 more losses in there.

Check out what's ahead after the bye:  @ Atlanta Denver @ Dallas @ Philly New Orleans @ Oakland NYG Dallas @ San Diego [/quote]I see 2-5 going into the Bye, especially with Samuels out this week. The only realistic chances for Ws at this point are Oak, Dallas at home & possibly SD. We're looking at 5-11. With every setback or choatic situation comes opportunity. With an uncapped season looming next year DS must bring in Matty as GM. Matty, I'll E-mail my resume to help in scouting, film wherever you think is the best fit. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
What I'm really dreading is the 3 home division games are all in primetime. With our O-line situation I kind of feel like we're going to be completely embarrassed on national television 3 times, and that is never fun.

No, and we've had our share of national TV games where we haven't performed well. |

You're right, but at the same time, I think the div. games will be close & we might pull out a couple. |

Glad you have some optimism left. Mine got sucked out of me watching Samuels go down and seeing Mike Williams on the field. |

We have no chance of winning more than 5 or 6 games with this OL. The sad part is that our OL problems were completely foreseeable. We fans have been crying for a re-build of the OL for years! How many of us truly believed, based on their injury history, that Randy Thomas and Chris Samuels would make it through a 16-game schedule? I know I didn't. The FO had to know that the odds of both of these key players going down to injury was very high, yet this very real possibility was not addressed in the off-season through trade, FA, or the draft. Sure, fire Zorn. He's truly clueless. I'll grant that. But as long as this pathetically inept FO tandem of Ceratto and Snyder continue to make poor player personnel decisions, we have no chance of becoming an NFL power. And yes, it will get worse this season - much worse. Heaven forbid that we lose to KC on Sunday! That could send us into a free-fall. |

Yup. Over the last five weeks the Warpath tone has completely changed. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
I admit, I was one who thought that we were going to do well this year. Now, words cannot express the depression that comes over me thinking about the Skins. I sense a return to the Spurrier'esque circus of chaos from which I see no hope for revival.
DS will fire Zorn, play the hire/fire a coach, find ways to infuse a sense of paranoia into management personnel, play favorites with some players (Bruce Smith, Arrington, Portis) while alienating other good players (B. Johnson, L. Coles - and now C. Rodgers). I just don't see an end. I am not criticizing the talent aquisition (other than complete failure to address the O-Line for the last 2-3 years). Actually, we have some good pick-ups both in FA and in the draft. However, I have just read one too many articles with information about the mean, petty vindictiveness of Snyder towards those who displease him (ice cream to Mike Nolan, big screen TV comment to Coles) to think that this guy can find and instill loyalty without a Gibbsian type to influence him. As long as this attitude exists, we will return to and be mired in chaos. We should pray for a victory this Sunday, otherwise we may have already seen our last win of the year. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
I kind of hope we lose out, as bad as that sounds. Nothing short of abject failure is going to be sufficient to convince D$ we need football people making football decisions.

I have little faith in that but that's what it will take for this fan. |
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
Well I know I'm in the minority here, but I think we have some talented players but they need to play. If we start to really falter, like we're 2-6, then why not start Montgomery at C and Rinehart at RG the rest of the way? Neither Rabach nor Thomas (most likely) will be here next year. Same with Smoot, make him inactive and make Barnes your dime back. Start Jarmon and Orakpo on the line. Start Chris Wilson, Start DT and Kelly, and make Moss your slot receiver...and so on
|
Re: Looking ahead, it's only going to get worse
Oakland actually has a good pass D(Asomugha) while San Diego's D suxxorz

I agree. If we get to that point why not see what we've got? An infusion of new blood may be just what we need, (among many other things). I've been waiting to see Mitchell get some plays called to him anyway. And guys like Rinehart should only get better with playing time. If we get to 2-6, let these guys start and let the ones that got us to that point sit. We're never going to know what we've got until they play in a real game anyway. Why keep playing guys who aren't going to be here next year if the season is lost? |

You wouldn't keep Raback for depth? |

Well no, I'd start Montgomery at C and make Edwin Williams the backup G/C. Plus the scuttlebutt is that Rabach won't be re-signed anyway |

I like the way you are thinking except why not do this now? The Skins are not and will not win with the bloated vets they have. Give these young players a chance--they can't produce less than the semipro ball we've been watching this season... |

So, they're going to let Rabach walk and fill his shoes with two UDFAs? Tell me that we've someone on right guard that would be better than Rabach, Jansen, or Kendall right now. They only have 6 draft picks, maybe seven depending on how many sevenths the league gives us. After this year well need a LT and a RT? |

Seems like a no brainer to me. But given that Zorn or Gray or whoever will almost certainly not be coming back next year and will thus be auditioning for another job, it's hard to imagine they will be concerned with playing for the future. |

If we get to the bye at 3-4 we can continue but I cannot stand going 7-9 and getting a garbage pick.

Nevermind. My thoughts exactly, very well put. A 4-12 season would let Danny know he needs to step back and it would get the new ownership a good pick to start with. |
