Trade Deadline Approaching; Any Moves?

I believe the trade deadline is next week. If Samuels is out long-term, it would be typical Skins biz to try & make a deal for someone. Anyone see any possible trades on the horizon? Or will DS & VC be patient & keep all picks for next year?

Jay Glazer said on sunday that the Raiders were ready for a "fire sale." One thought I had was Robert Gallery. Before everyone calls him a "bust" rememember that he's at least been a starter for most of his career. His salary might be too big, but if he could be had for a 6th rounder, that might be a good deal.

Another name that could come up is Brady Quinn:

Gallery is listed at the third string left guard. he's probably free to a good home.

He's been in an awful situation in Cleveland. He appeared to have the tools coming out of the NCAA and definitely had a great college QB coach in Weis.

We're not going anywhere this season. Now is the time to find out what we have as far as young players go to build around for 2010 & beyond.

I saw that on their pg. Wonder if he's given up in Oak. a la R. Moss? He's not an LT like they drafted him to be, but he can play RT or G probably better than half our o line.

he's probably better than heyer or williams right or at least has experience at the position (recent). I don't know... are we grasping?

How about Alex Boone? Isnt he on the San Frans p squad, sowe can get him by dumping AA or Bastie? He was a really good prospect that made some really dumb desions while drunk.

I was also thinking i wonder if Samuels can be traded for anything?

I've had the Quinn thought as well but to be honest w/ you i haven't seen much of his games in Cleveland. I watched one last year where he was ok. I did watch a good amount of his games at ND and he was impressive to say the least. Cleveland will make anyone look bad. They probably say the same about us. He's got to have a hefty salary though.

I don't quite understand the Washington organizations' (and apparently the fan bases) fascination with offensive linemen who are proven failures. The only theory I can come up with is because people remember their names from when they were taken high in the draft, but in Gallery's case, there's a reason he's #3 on arguably the worst team in the league. I'd rather not have Washington load up with more garbage lineman, that look completely overmatched when they actually have to play.

Exactly. For once we're going to have to play the cards we're dealt and address this during the offseason. Of course like most Skins fans I have a glimmer of hope, but realistically this season is probably done and it saddens me to say it.

Edwards sure looked better and happy to be out of Cleveland. Maybe a change of scenery does Quinn good.

I've got no "fascination" w/gallery or anyone else. The thread is more about predicting what the front office might do.

My preference would be for them to keep all draft picks. But if Gallery, or a similar player, could be had for a late round pick & they can start this year & next, I'd have to say that's decent deal. Of course, it perpetuates the old fa/ lack of draft picks & youth, but it's still possible that such a move could help.

I would agree w/you on gallery if it weren't for the level of dysfunction going on in Oakland. Randy Moss looked washed up there & they traded him for a 4th round pick. Was that a good deal for NE? I don't know if Gallery can play anywhere, but I think there's some chance that he could go elsewhere & do alright.

I wonder what we could get for Portis?

We shouldn't settle cheap for him. But maybe we could get a decent draft pick or two for future building.

I want Snyder to see that we're way past saving this season with a deadline trade. If anything, we should look for opportunities to stockpile future draft picks. Perhaps Carlos Rogers to a team desperate for a starting caliber CB.

so are you saying the skins should be doing a fire sale? i think i'd agree with that...
I think betts value is about 0, inline wiith his IQ.
Moss certainly has value, so does cooley.

Laron Landry

And if we're going to trade for a QB (and especially if this Gruden talk is serious) then why not Josh Johnson?

Re: Trade Deadline Approaching; Any Moves?

We should investigate a trade for Shawne Merriman as due dilligence, but in all honesty, he's not as great of a player after the injury as he was prior to it. If we could do a Braylon Edwards-type package for him, it'd make some sense. But no first or second round picks should be involved.

Re: Trade Deadline Approaching; Any Moves?

Hey, i love guys like Moss, CP, and Betts but they're not going to be productive this year or next w/ the line that we have barring a miracle. If we're rebuilding then see what they can bring back in return. If the FO is serious about rebuilding. Are we going to win a championship w/ these guys w/ the team that we have?

GhettoDogAllStars 10-13-2009 02:46 PM

Re: Trade Deadline Approaching; Any Moves?

The only two guys on this team worth a crap are Fletcher and Cooley, IMO -- and Fletcher is running on borrowed time.

When I hear people asking what we could get for Samuels, Portis, et. al. I just laugh -- just like every GM in the league would do.

I see what you're saying & if the right offer comes up I think you have to take it. But rebuilding doesn't have to mean dumping all vets. Moss has a few, if less explosive, years left. Betts might be cut next year, and Portis might be demoted if they draft a rb. Still, both can play as reserves at least & we ain't gettin anyone to pick up that huge contract of CP.
